anand has seemingly been an e4 player his whole life. check out the 1995 match to see some fantastic sicilian games. he did however abstain from e4 openings against topalov in 2010.
Thanks KC- I agree with you about the match length- to me, 12 games is not a real World Championship match at all. It was all over just as Kramnik was getting into it.
I think the best format would be 24 or even 36 games, but with the proviso that if one player goes ahead by 4 points at any stage then that ends the match there and then. This would stop one-sided contests from dragging on too long while allowing for exciting comebacks.
What I would've done if I were Anand is I would've developed the bishop on f1 to either c4 or d3 earlier in the game. I think it was a huge liability for Anand because his rooks weren't connected in the game.
Kingscrusher. I don't know if anybody else feels this, but I would prefer if you didn't indicate or say what the result of the game was as the start of it. Thanks for your great vids overall though.
agreed. I though there were some good games. It's a shame that Krammnik was not on form to put up a better fight. Anand played brilliantly throughout, except for one game.
Not every WCC can be like Spassky versus Fischer. I would say I was surprise to see Kramnik get hosed. I thought that there would be more back and fore (Or at least that what I was hoping for). I would like to see Ivanchuk play for the title. Anand vs. Ivanchuk I think would be quite exciting match.

This championship was like a penalty game,
Kramnik is the goalkeeper, Anand was the forvet.
Anand shoots, Kramnik try to save...
like an one side footaball game...
Worse unbalanced championship ever.
I even don't know how Kramnik won a game?!
May be he should stop playing chess after that disaster.

I also notice that in most videos you support the winning side by using the words " x simply played" but keep up the great work!

why did kramnik accepted a draw, is he a moron what could he gain from that when the title is on line and he still got a change to win it
kevin235rr 3 years ago
Actually, Kramnik was the one who offered a draw, because he had no winning chances and playing on would essentially be pointless.

I think 2008 WCC was one of the worst in the chess history,
No excitement, nothing special, usual lines, usual games, ordinary chess.
Ivanchuk would be the best GM for the championship...Hope he plays final next year!

- Anand shockingly switches to 1.d4
- Many of the games featured sharp, unbalanced positions with broken pawn structures, open files, uncastled kings left in the middle of the board.
- Many, many decisive games-- far more than most had probably anticipated.
What 2008 WCC match were you watching?
