I didn't know a 130 hp 305 in a GMC Van could smoke tires....no wait I forgot they did use bleach to get the BFG's to smoke up. LOL.

@2011FindTheTruth yeah but I believe there has to also be some hp there too. We have 525 lb torque Ford Powerstroke tow tugs but they can't do a burnout for squat. Not even on wet pavement. Not even if you brake spool the turbo on pavement.

@s10eclipse If you've got an automatic transmission you'd be hard pressed to do a burnout. In those days the standard transmission ruled. I had a 62 Chevy 327 with an automatic that always won at the strip in the automatic class, on the street a stick would beat me out of the hole by a car length and I would never spin a tire.

@MRMansChevy Ford F Series Pickups were cool and still are if you can find one that somebody hasn't beatup. Those Chevy engines 265, 283, 327 and 350 were beautiful, great high winding, easy to work on and easily modified with a Chevy Duntoff Cam, throw a 4-speed and a set of 411's or 456's in the mix and you had something that owned the street, those were the days.

The engine used in the van for the show was a 7.4L / 454 CID V8 with a 4 bbl carb. Using the 454 made it necessary to use an 83+ van.
