  • The judges voted for Yamada because they didn't want to his next car crash victims.

  • is a Japanese chef, specializing in Italian cuisine. He was a top chef in Japan until, in a 1991 car accident, he killed two people and injured several others. The accident propelled him into financial ruin and disgrace. Out of the limelight, he worked in relative obscurity for several years. In 1994, he began a public comeback on an episode of the popular Japanese cooking show, Iron Chef, where he won the "Battle of the Cabbage" against Chen Kenichi.

  • you can tell the rush of hope and humble dreams coming back to life in yamada-san's eyes and face ^_^ a truly inspiring battle!

chen did great too! as usual ^^

  • as a big fan of Chen, i just want to cry.

i do believe that tne cabbage dumpling tasted amazing. i may cook this menu someday.

    love you, chen-san.

  • Chef Yamada deserves it. Congrats! Such inspiring spirit and motivation.

And im curios what happen to him so i google him. He becomes the owner of a restaurant in Tokyo called Hiro Primo (this is the info i got from a site). Hope he's doing well till this day.

  • Congradulations! Hiromi Yamada.

  • Cabbage dumpling with cherry inside didn't win the favor of Kurimoto and Takata. Many Japanese people hate it when fruit is cooked, like pineapple in sour pork sautee.

  • way to go challenger!!

you beat the chinese iron chef and his power ingredient too

  • Wow, truly an amazing battle! Eventhough Yamada said earlier that he doesn't even know what he's cooking but it turned out really gorgeous! Chef Chen have tried his best but I have to admit that Chef Yamada's creations are more exquisite and tastewise must be richer... All the way Chef Yamada! Never give up!

  • i love iron chef chen!! "oops!" hahahaha he seems like a fun person to have cook for you

  • For some reason I don't understand at 1:52 when he says "Thank you" I burst out laughing... it just sounds hilarious for some reason :)

  • man, almost got teary eyed for him. You know, it is so easy for the spirit man to be broken. And honestly, not to take away from his dishes which looked superb, but I think this was a chance for such a organization such as Iron Chef to help mend his spirit. I think this is the only episode where I wanted someone else to win against Ken. He is second to none, but even for him, satisfaction, I believe, was evident in the resurrection of a true master Italian chef. thx

  • I know what you mean. I was so glad he won. He deserved it, too. This was a challenger that really needed this win. You can see in his eyes that he is haunted by the accident and I hope this helped him give a new direction to his life.

  • the winner deserved it so much

    helps him out lots

  • the energy of the soil! LOL! wonder how that tastes!

  • such a great and memorable battle. I hope Yamada got his life back on track.

  • Her blouse is trying to eat her arms. Frightening.

  • How is it like an accident, exactly?

  • Wow, if you can beat Chen in a cabbage battle.. that just says how skilled you are as a chef. Cabbage is such a Chinese ingredient..

  • 4:31 is my fav. LOL..why did they not edit her cough, not to mention voicing it over?

  • LOL... never noticed this.

It sounds like a MAN cough!!

    : )

  • This was a very moving episode...I'm soooo glad Yamada won, he deserved it for so many reasons!!!

  • The cabbage-shank redemption. Beautiful, just beautiful.

  • I foresaw this ending. Good battle. :]

  • Thank you for posting this episode archo

  • hey i'm eating cabbage!
