many things make this story remarkable, like the character in the movie says, it was almost like it was meant to be, I like the part in the movie where he says this rock was waiting for me since the day I was born, everything in my life, every decision, has led me to this place, and the fact that he saw a vision of his son makes it incredible, he wasn't stupid, he is very smart had a good job, speaks many languages, plays piano very good, etc... but like he said is like it was meant to happen
Truly an inspirational story of personal discovery and will to survive. I to be able to have in that situation take your life in your hands and survive is incredible. Telling todays youth about your experiences and with your wisdom educated people is what I feel most people would not do, for this your inspire me to take life everyday and never give up. @Pandafanekn they were'nt in blue john canyon when he were stuck with his arm. they actually built an exact copy of what it looks like, the place where it all happened, and recorded it all in a studio. but in the beggining and at the end they were there :)

many things make this story remarkable, like the character in the movie says, it was almost like it was meant to be, I like the part in the movie where he says this rock was waiting for me since the day I was born, everything in my life, every decision, has led me to this place, and the fact that he saw a vision of his son makes it incredible, he wasn't stupid, he is very smart had a good job, speaks many languages, plays piano very good, etc... but like he said is like it was meant to happen

Truly an inspirational story of personal discovery and will to survive. I to be able to have in that situation take your life in your hands and survive is incredible. Telling todays youth about your experiences and with your wisdom educated people is what I feel most people would not do, for this your inspire me to take life everyday and never give up. @srkb001 so what you're saying is you would have the where-with-all to, first, fashion a tourniquet out of a piece of nylon tubing, then proceed to snap BOTH of the bones in your forearm, and after all of that, having had no food in 5 days, no water in 3 days, no sleep in 6 nights, STILL have the energy determination and strength of will to spend over an hour hacking through your arm with a dull, bent and dirty 2 inch blade. you would have probably used the pliers to rip tendon too right? ^,-

To answer his question at the end: Because many people would choose to die, or not have enough courage to amputate their own arm. The sheer amount of strength and bravery, that will to live, is enough to have your name in the halls of fame more so than anyone else I can think of at this moment.

people keep saying that cutting the arm is a stupid decision, but its a very wise decision. His arm was decomposing while trappes and decomposing poisoness gass started to form in his arm. That can com to poison in the body, so then there is a chose, you or the arm.

@TAz69x something FAR EASIER, thats EVERYONE'S ANSWER! - but i guess some people were killing people, or themselves, getting a divorce, watching their kid die... you can really think of many things worse, because at the time of his arm cutting HE HAD HOPE, and despite the extreme pain, HOPE COUNTERS much of the pain and over powers it..., not to mention his arm was already dying and he cut off some of his circulation pre"surgery"... too bad he didn't have some pain killers, morphine please!
