  • I just wish I could find the mp3 for this.

  • somehow this only got to # 32......should have been # 1.......love this ..great times ..

  • Brent sang the harmony with Robert Palmer when he redid Marvin Gaye's "Mercy Mercy me" - a rather difficult tune to sing - Marvin as Palmer says was "one hell of a vocal technician". Understatement.

  • I first heard this song in 1992 on the radio and I loved it. I tried to find it on cd or cassette but all the music stores I went to never even heard of it. Back then though they didn't use computers to find music titles like they do now.

  • I miss the 80s and 90s!!!!

  • @rockybudgeboa I agree. This past decade the music mostly just sucks. There's way too much rap and singing whores like lady gaga.

  • One of my favourite songs ever ...thanks for sprucing up the audio, Tre404!

  • reminds me of my college days...

  • This song had been running in my head for over 11 years! I didn't know the name of the song or the artist...I would hear it at casino I used to go to late at night in the 90's and it's been running in my head ever since! I googled a couple of lyrics and Wow-found it! Such a hauntingly beautiful song! Absolutely love it and it's hard for me not to play it over and over again!

  • my song!

  • Thanks for posting this. I don't know why this song wasn't more popular. I only heard parts of it while in a store or in a riding in a car, and never knew the artist. No one else ever seemed to hear it so I could never get any info. After 20 short years of searching, sure enough it exists! I owe you one for validating my sanity Tre404, so if there is something you'd like to see uploaded or something -LMK.

  • One of the GREATEST songs ever. SINATRA would have sung this TUNE!

  • Great Song! Nice video as well... thanks for posting.

  • I always thought that if I found a woman who loved this song as much as I, then I might have found my soul mate.

    Still waiting.

  • I remember hearing this in the Summer of 1990 a few times on the radio, but that was the end of it. It never became a hit!! I'm glad I found it recently on here. It's a hauntingly beautiful song.

  • First of all.. "Night Tracks"??? CLASSIC. I can flash back now to being a teenager in Atlanta and staying up too late watching videos. And this song was also one I had on that cassette mix tape. And here I am now living in the Sacramento area. Small world.

    Nice post (video)....

  • @TresFives ... That's funny... I grew up in California (Humboldt/Del Norte Counties), lived there when this came out... and now I live in Atlanta! (Since 1991)... Night Tracks was awesome. That theme music, and those voices put me right back in my teenage years every time... lol

  • Wonderful song. This could *never* be played on top 40 stations of today, obviously.

  • @djdavemick ...for sure... for one thing, the music, the chord progression, are FAR too complex! Isn't that sad? Not simple enough for today's listener.

  • This song is a CLASSIC .. love Brents vocals and the keys are SMOLDERING ... would LOVE to hear him perform this song live ...

  • @razrramone ...yes, the chord progression just tore me apart when I first heard it in 1990!! It was powerful.

  • @razrramone i agree his voice is amazing..almost give the chills like Bryan Ferry's ..or alan Rickman's!

  • I've heard this song where I work and I was determined to find out what that that song was for years and now I've found it! Thank you! :)

  • Glad you found it! Kind of an obscure hit, for sure.

  • Yeah,it was! Awesome!

  • Back in my DJ'ing days, this was a fellow DJ and his girlfriend's "song." So it always reminds me of them... they introduced me to it.

  • did he do a version of the song" time of the season" circa 1989/1990?

did you do a song that went:

    " i am,

a man you can depend on" ?

  • Yes, "Time of the Season" is on his self-titled album from 1990.

  • I scoured the lyric sheet on this LP for the song you're referencing, and couldn't find a match. Maybe it's on a Bourgeois Tagg album or one of Brent's later efforts.

  • @Tre404

" i am a man you can depend on"

it sounded like the same guy that sings this youtube video it could have been gino vanelli or even tears for fears. i'll probably never know.

i heard" time of the season" late 1990 at the supermarket i worked at. heard this other song late summer 1991 in a clothing store..

i can always remember things that sound good.

  • I think you're referring to "Song for You" by Chicago. YouTube won't let me post the URL here, but do a search for it. It's here, I just saw it. :-)
