finally musci fromt he original Turbo Graphix version....but you cut off the begining and it's out of order...Anyone know where I can find the actual videos from it and the dialogue parts?
It's amazing how the music of modern video games just don't measure up to the incredible quality and musical compositions of older games. What went wrong?? Not only did we have better music in general, but, the graphics of older games were so much better as well! HAND-DRAWN masterpieces! Now, all we get is the same SHIT. We see nothing but the back of stupid looking CG characters, or worse, just a retarded gun.
I loved spending HOURS on this game all the way until I finished it roughly 20 years ago when it first came out. Loved the music, loved the game and I love that you have done this. I am seriously getting goose bumps listening to this and it makes me want to fire up my Wii and play it on the VC.
@FlameAdder Then, you failed miserably, and instead, made a fool of yourself. Hm... "nostalgia-fag"?? You have to be one hell of a faggot to even want to use such a word. Well, in terms of what you were probably trying to really say, I can bet you had a very fucked up time growing up, didn't ya? Never experienced the good ole days? Big brother/sister picked on you? Parents kicked you out too soon? HAHAHAA!!
@FlameAdder But... You're a retard to begin with and everything you have said so far is retarded. Hey, by the way, what the heck are you doing here anyway if you don't even like Ys? Oh yeah, almost forgot... YOU'RE A RETARD.
Ys is videogame music at it's best. I play videogames since the 80's (played YS 1, 2 and 3 on my msx computer) and never found any game with such beautiful music as Ys.
This is definately my favorite of the 2 Ys games I own for the TurboGrafx CD, the other being Ys III. The minute I hooked up my new TG CD to my stereo system, popped this disc in, and booted it is the minute that the TG CD system became my all time favorite system, over NES, MD, SNES, Neo Geo, whatever! I loved and still love the TG CD and this game started it all for me.
at 8:25 you hear the boss music no other games comes as close to this in speed or brilliance Ys has some of the best music ive ever ehard in an rpg it up there with my favourites like the final fantasy & version of the theme
Next to ActRaiser all the Ys soundtracks are my other love. I always get hyped up when I listen to them. There's so many songs that could be thrown up here, but then this would end up being far more than 10 mins.
Thank the Goddesses for Yuzo Koshiro!! And thanks again to Garudoh for all the insane effort you put into this!
Hehe, thanks for the comment. Always awesome to see someone really get into the series and take the time to check everything out. Glad you're enjoying it.
Thanks for uploading. I just have to say, my bro downloaded this on VC recently, and the music ALONE makes it worth it. I shit you guys not - Ys Books has some of the coolest music I've heard in gaming.
Would it be at all possible for HyperSonic9000 to shut up about Mario on a Y's music vid...(in the words of Bill from Office Space) that would be great...thanks"
I can't quite explain it myself. I've been pondering how it got so popular, and how it managed to pull off what it did. And I have to give credit where credit is due. It pulled off something pretty good, especially considering it's the first Mario RPG.
Just as Ys Books 1 and 2 need to be given credit where credit is due, and that can't be missed.
While it does have some cornerstones such as the things you've mentioned that support it's possible superiority, Super Mario RPG, despite it being percieved as merely "another Mario game" was phenomenal both as a game and as an RPG. I'd say it's more than just another fun game. And I can't quite explain why. Trust me, this is not speaking on behalf of childhood memories and bias.
Paper Mario was in fact my first RPG. I like Super Mario RPG, but I'm no fanboy of it.
And to conclude, they don't necessarily release video games in the VC based on their history. If they did, games like Tennis for the NES wouldn't even exist on there.
They have their moments where they do pay attention to history and figure it's about time they do it before fans throw a riot; but if it was all about history, games like NES baseball would never have made it on there.
Ys was the first adventure/RPG that used real music and animated cut scenes with voice acting. Games like FF7 and beyond owe part of their existence to games like this. Super Mario RPG is a fun game, but I don't think it was as earth shattering as Chrono Trigger, FF6, or this.
And besides, it's not like I said Super Mario RPG was more important in the first place. All I said was "Another real time RPG? When will Super Mario RPG arrive to the VC?"
We get plenty of real time RPGs coming to the U.S. these days and it's getting tedious. And Super Mario RPG, a very important game, has not yet been released via the virtual console yet? Especially considering this has only come out in Japan, in which I'm willing to bet more U.S. citizens know about SMRPG than this.
And it should damn well come as a surprise that it's not out on the U.S. virtual console yet. Many people have been anticipating it's arrival, and have grievances on it's absense. They spared no time in releasing Super Mario World, so why should this one take so long to arrive?
You'd be surprised how important Super Mario RPG is in the gaming community, even in the face of squares most notable RPGs that were developed soley by them and no influence from Nintendo whatsoever.
Whether you hate the fact that at least 1 Mario game is made every year or not, you can't deny the impact Super Mario RPG had on the gaming community. It's common sense.
Hey, it's not my favorite RPG either. I can think of some I like better; but it's a highly not-worthy RPG and game.
Woah. I played the first Ys on the Mastersystem, but I never knew there were any continuations, and I definitely didn't know they redid them. These graphics are way better than what I remember, and the music that I actually recognize from the first game seems to have been updated and changed too.
Great music, i am using a patch on y's 1 &2 complete for pc that has the tg-16 music, much better music imo. The remake does have a much more fleshed out plot. Instead of getting off the boat. You start off in a bed, of a nurse and villager, from a being shipwrecked. The fortune teller doesn't come to you , you have to find her, in a different town then you start from. I don't know if the original plot was like that, and they just hacked it for the turbo American disc or what.
I think they added that extra bit in order to explain why there was no trade going from Esteria because of the Storm Barrier. Adol's basically stuck there until he can discover what happened to Ys, solve the mystery and save the land.
This same thing happens again in Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim.
To think this game was out before even the SNES was flexing its sound chip, that's pretty amazing. Had I discovered Y's back in 1990, it very likely would've blown my mind.
sup brah...nice collection. Ys 4 is my fav soundtrack though.
