i didn't mean to say dave was better, because i think john mayer is a fantastic guitarist. just noting dave's unique songwriting abilities. i definitely agree that the real talent lies with timmy-he's something else

i love dmb, and i love me some john mayer. john mayer kicks ass at guitar, and he couldnt get dave's stuff anywhere as clean as dave plays it. that sure says something about dave's song writing/performing ability

@dmbfan1992 thaat's not entirely true. john mayer is a very talented musician and if his guitar covers of dave's songs aren't as clean it's probably cuz dave has played them a bajillion times and mayer hasn't. dave's an incredible songwriter but the real guitar talent lies with timmy... wouldn't use this as an example of dave being a superior guitarist (I don't think he is)

to me John's songs remind me of TV jingles. Very simple lyrically speaking and get stuck in your head no matter if you like them or not. everyone will just think I'm "Hating" if I talk about how I feel about John's voice. Lets just say I feel like Dave sings with more passion. And leave it at that!

big fan of Mayer and Dave Matthews. I've gotta say though, when John rips on Dave it's just SO transparent. John is a phenomenal guitarist and has a far better voice than Dave, but he can only dream of writing songs, and lyrics for that matter, that are half as good as the ones Dave writes on his worst day.

@rat51188 Mayer loves DMB. Mayer's first concewrt was DMB at Jones Beach, NY. He has even played with DMB on several occasions on #41. COmparing Mayer to Dave is comparing apples to oranges. They are totally different.

@libertyfalls Being a fan and being jealous aren't mutually exclusive. In the past he's said something to the effect of "I am who I am because of Dave Matthews Band," sure. But that doesn't mean he isn't envious of Dave's writing.

@libertyfalls I don't even remember my comment haha, been a year. But I stumbled upon this again flicking through vids. I'll amend it to say this: Personally, I don't like John Mayer all that much. I think Dave is miles above him in talent. But, its pretty cool he has been inspired by him and respects Dave enough to try to share his stuff with other people like that.

@MrCopperhead1861 I say they have equal talent but in different things. Dave couldnt rip out a blues solo and mayer couldnt do a lot of the improv chord jams that dave does. THey are wildly different in playing styles so its unfair to compare them.
