FIA knew that williams was going over 1200 1300 hp with v10 in if they let same normative in 2004, but the fucking FIA reduced the air intake entrance of the engines, so the 2004 engines had 120 140 hp less than in 2003 because they needed to reduce the rpm otherwise engines blowing up

and talking about the new normative in 2013 with v6 turbo i dont like..... cars will not have over 600 hp, FIA dont want also HP > Weight of car, actually its 1,2 hp per kg and they want 1/1.

and i hate how they killing F1 i would imagine the mclaren mp420 with slicks kers and drs, they would do times 8 or 10 sec faster per lap, and could run over 400km/h in monza, dunno if the mclaren had 970 hp but the bmw williams of 2003 in the last part of the year had over 1100 hp v10 at 21600 rpm

I always liked the old V10's, but in this video the V8 sounded better, the TC ruined the sound of the V10 in my opinion.

@smoldingCarcus 4 cyl I would imagine would either sound similar to the V8s or like MotoGP type engines. the V6s probably will sound like a crapper version of the V12s, turbos depending on their size may damp down the sound a bit, replacing it with extra wind noise. Huge turbos however might sound cool. I was hoping for 5 cylinders just in case they sounded similar to V10s (think about how the Audi RS3 and Ford Focus RS sound like the Dodge Viper)

Going from the V10 to the V8 was another dumb decision in a long line of idiotic Max Mosley decisions. The whole purpose of the switch was to reduce engine power and reduce cost. Now to reduce engine power all you needed to do was restrict the V10s by rev limiter. (which by the way is what they did with the V8s anyway). And secondly to reduce costs? Did exactly the opposite. Designing a brand new engine cost all the manufacturers MILLIONS! Max Mosley = Fool !

right, the decision on the engine configuration is based on the SOUND it makes. yeah... that's very engineering like..... the best engine is the one with the least number of cylinders for a given horsepower, without sacrificing the performance. it takes a great deal of engineering work to get the horsepower --originally achieved on a V12--on a V6. there's a reason why we only watch the race on youtube and not designing the F1 engines. Performance over aesthetic!

Back in the days, when formula one was about pure driving, about real speed. Not DRS KERS overtaking but just pure driving skills. No overtaking on the straight. When engines sounded nice, and where there was pure competition, where drivers wanted to take risks. Now only schumacher, kubica en petrov are taking risks.
