See I guess I'm just an oddball. Everybody always liked Davy, but I always thought I would've liked more like a little brother. Mike on the other hand I would've giggedied his gashmoigen...lol!
This song was written by Buffy Sainte Marie, and has been recorded by ALOT of singers., makes me wonder do you know if it was Mike's choice to record it or the producers?
This is a really lovely version of this song. I hadn't realised how beautifully Mike Nesmith sang. It was always Micky and Davy who stole the limelight in the Monkees but it seems Mike was the truly talented one. The quiet one!!
@ThePinkFloydPortal Stu Phillips also conducted the "Hollyridge Strings" . The Hollyridge Strings produced many instrumental albums of the Beatles, Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, Simon and Garfunkal and Elvis.
I never knew Michael Nesmith recorded this song until finding it on YouTube. My goodness, he does such a fantastic job of it. I listen to this over and over again. This sends me straight to heaven. Does anyone know if this comes on a CD?
Thank you so very much, NezHEAD, for putting this together.
@andujan1884 Me, too! And I recently met Stu Phillips, who wrote & conducted most of the zany music from the Monkees! Found him right here on yt. Nez was sure a man of amazing talent as evident in this song! His music video 'Eldorado to the Moon' is my newest feature. I've compiled 700 playlists, an archive in tribute to the best of a century of pop music from around the world, where 112 playlists for every year since 1900 let you listen as if you've stepped back in time. chuck
NezHead66 - Michael N. - of The Monkees - the pale melancholic, poet, sensitive romantic. I adored him and each Monkey, Peter Tork - ooooh so ditto - even more quiet and shy, and Mickey Dolenz - so snappy, pappy, funny, lovey, tying up those loose ends, just like Jack Black -- oooh, snappy sexy, and Davy Jones - every girls, first crush, including Marsha. But, the British import needs the most "steering," lest you forget, my feathered, fellow friends. Be a friend, love, peace.
I've always thought that Mike Nesmith and Denny Doherty sounded quite alike. This is one example of that, IMHO. Love both! Sometimes, especially back in the 60's, they even looked a tiny bit alike in the face, too.
There are tears running down my face. Always loved this song, rarely have heard it. Just found Youtube. Thank God it's here. It fits so perfect into my life right now., every word describes a story in my life, recently ended. It's hard to hear it, but my heart has to listen. Thank you so much for posting!
One of my favorite little trivia items on MN is that his mom honestly truly invented Liquid Paper; aka, Wite-Out. Made her millions, about half of which she left to her only son, Michael. Luv it.
I've loved this song for so long, by Elvis and Buffy Sainte Marie, the song's creator. Nesmith does a great job. Neil's verson also good. Hey, maybe it's impossible to do a bad version of the song. Charmed!
I have a DVD about The Monkees, I bought it in 2003, and a clip of this song is on it, which I thought was a beautiful song. I believe Neil Diamond covered this *ponders*, I'm sure its on one tape my mum has, it's not as powerful as this version tho they are the only two versions I've ever heard. Plus Mike has a huge fan here :D
This is one of my favorite Elvis songs and I came across this while looking for his version. When he sings it the beginning lyrics are...Your not a dream your not an angel your a woman, I'm not a king I'm just a man take hand...I like it better that way. I use to watch The Monkees in reruns when I was a kid and yes Mike was my favorite :)
Oh I forgot to add, I love that little video clip at the end of Mike eating the pretzel. I think that was from the Chaparone episode. It was kinda like a final bow.
The version of this song on Headquarters Sessions is just wonderful. Although I do like this version as well. But that one has Mike playing an accoustic guitar nothing else. But I do agree Mike's voice is just lovely singing this song.
Yes, buffy saint marie... this is another song that should have gone on an album.... why do i feel that there's still even more stuff like this out there....
his voice is so lovely and mysterious. so underrated as a vocalist. he hits notes i never knew existed. i wish someone would make a video for "little red ryder" and "beyond the blue horizon."
Such a beautiful voice.

didn't he record this under the name Michael Blessing?

Written by Buffy St. Marie, but there's an apostrophe in "it's" is it is the diminutive version of, well, "it is".
It's most certainly rare, but it's surely the only redeeming feature of this version.

I just searched the song. It was written by Neil Diamond. Believe me, I would not post this unless it was a fact. Why does this bother me?
DionysisMaenad 2 years ago
probably because you LOVE Neil as I do.
it kinda bothers me not knowing, jimsflet sounds like he knows what he's talking about, or he loves Buffy alot.
or both.
I tend to think it was my ex Neil Diamond.
