This dated but, my family still eats together every night unless there is a very rare situation. I believe that is important to family life. I don't think one needs to change clothes or be that careful about the topic.
Sunday lunches are still a huge tradition in France. They can take up to three hours, are in several courses, and there is pastry as well as fruit and cheese for dessert. Then, one often goes for a walk in a park.
I was born in the 50's and I grew up during the 60's and 70's. My father was railroad car inspector. After my oldest brother was born, my mother stayed home for the next 30 years to take of us. She went back to work part-time when my sister was in eighth grade. But she at least took care of us. We weren't dumped into daycare centers or raised by babysitters and nannies.
And you talk about the 50's, look at the other side of it. There was the Korean War. Castro took over Cuba.
Since this was made back in 1950, the boy and the girl are probably in the 70's today (God willing) and the parents are probably dead. The boy and girl were born during the Depression.
"Hi, kids, how was your day?" "Well, Mom crashed the new car, sis got kicked off the cheerleading squad for drinking, Bobby set fire to the band bus, I got suspended for smoking in the cafeteria, and Sally told me that she's late." "Did you finish the lawn and sweep the garage, Billy?" "I sure did." "That's my boy!"
The father in this family had a college education and a professional job. My father was a railroad car inspector and he never finished high school. In fact, he worked three jobs in order to support us. My mother didn't work outside the home for thirty years because she had to take care of us. And this was when I was growing up.
Even back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, there were women who worked outside the home. They were either teachers, nurses, secretaries, office workers, or store clerks.
I was born in the 50's and I grew up during the 60's and 70's. We used to have dinner at home as well. In fact it was the custom back then.
Nowadays, we got both parents working and we have latchkey kids. I have heard that most juvenile crime occurs between 3 and 6 pm. We also have quick fix microwave dinners and our fast food fix.
I can even make quick meals out of frozen entrees and frozen veggies. But my father still prefers the old-fashioned home-cooked meal.
The last part of the vid is almost like a brain washing guide on how to behave. Although, I do agree with the ideas presented. It's just the way it is presented that is eeriely familiar to brainwashing videos on how to be "perfect".
Call me whatever. But i'd rather live in a crazy, loud, dysfunctional family, then be some little stepford kid. Who can't express their true emotions, be creative, or confide in their families about their problems. These people, as others mentioned, kept their skeletons in their closets, and supressed their true emotions and desires.
I don't care who you are, no one can truly be happy living that way. No matter how perfect you look on the outside.
@pancakehead911 keep in mind....just like TV shows back then, this is an idealized depiction of how a family should be. In reality it was a little more loose than this. I think the theory was to show the "ideal" situation and maybe people will take just a few pointers from it......like be clean, be polite & show consideration for others. Back then I new very few families that were this strict.....but the general idea is somewhat accurate for the era
Very nice and pleasant, wioth emphasis on respect and caring.
Sadly the Marxist hippies destroyed all this in the 60;s, and their monkey followers are here on this page proving it with their idiotic condemnations.
@Vebinz There were some truly awful things that happened in the 60s and I am glad to see them gone even if it means giving up this saccharin facade. I don't see how that is hippie or Marxist.
@Vebinz The movie advises against conversations about unpleasant subject matter. Well that's what happened. There was a lot of child & domestic abuse and nobody talked about it. There was also extreme discrimination. It was only after the "Marxist hippies" destroyed it all that the unpleasant conversations began and exposed how prevalent it was. Things change & it's never all bad or all good. Your memory is selective if you say otherwise.
No good sir. The film says not to discuss unplesant things in such a setting as a family dinner. There is a time and place for everything, and a dinner table isn;t the place to discuss unpleasant subjects.
--------
"There was a lot of child & domestic abuse and nobody talked about it."
Says who? Besides, there is today. There is also murderous wars.
Do you discuss them with your family at the dinner table? Did you discuss those 8 NATO-killed Afghan kids?
So this teaches us that you can never let anyone know the real you, don't ever show any emotions other than happiness and don't ever relax or be yourself around your family. To quote MST 3000 "Emotions are for ethnic people"
@devilshomie Yes! Keeping your emotions to yourself shows STRENGTH! Working your problems out on your own shows CHARACTER! Sadly(?) this is still the case. Remember Thomas Eagleton? He was George McGovern's choice for V.P. Then Eagleton said he went to a psychaitrist, (weakness!), and McGovern choxe someone else. Hey....I've got the answer! Too much emotion is not good....but hiding it too much isn't good either
(ran out of room) Not just the women had to dress up ecooney58, notice the men wearing jackets to eat dinner at home. Having dinner together is not the issue, it's all the rules and regulations. Did someone miss what the guy was saying? I doubt that eveliaragsdale puts on stocking, heels and goes to the beauty salon just to have dinner at home, mom did. What the guy really meant was don't speak unless spoken to, except to politely ask someone to pass the salt and answer questions about school.
This gives me nightmares. I was a kid in the 50's, we had to be perfect little robots. I don't believe in raising kids like savages but there is a happy medium. If you didn't live this life, you have no idea what you are saying if you think it was great. The 50's were a strange decade. Give me the 60's any day. If you ever watched the Stepford Wives, we were the Stepford kids. Beauty salon with mom every Saturday, perfectly dressed, gloves and hats everytime we went anywhere except school,
@1caramarie All I can say is eeeww! Yeah the 60's must have been a real blessing. :) all that "you must be pleasant and charming" all the time thing would make me go apeshit..
Minus the gender specific "behavior" of back then, this is pretty much my house. Yes, every single night. We are a young family (triplets are about to turn 6) that for the last 4 years have had dinner together at the table every single evening. We thank God for our food, eat well-rounded home cooked meals, and talk all the way through to dessert. I guess I'm only surprised that most people are shocked by this concept. I'm beginning to see we're not as normal as I thought we were.
Moral decay...that's what it's called. Family values, pride, courtesy, good manners and ettiquette are all frowned on as something that was ok for your grandparents but not for you. I heard a 6 year old tell his mother to eff off the other day in the grocery store. She did NOTHING but kept on shopping. I would have had a slap in the mouth right there and then. It's not too late though. I had a terrible neglectful childhood but try very hard every day to to kind to others.
i'm from 66 and grew up in the 70's and in those days we were polite as a kid, because else my father or mother would gave me a pedagogish responsibil and educational slap on the head, to correct me for my big mouth. these days that would be seen as child molest / abuse, whatever they name it these days, so you are not elowed to raise your kids like it should be, and that's how todays kids have no respect, because those little smartasses are to damn inteligent to ( see part 2)
..not know what their righst are. Also todays parents are guilty of raising their kids badly, because alot of them think that their kid is special, and may do and say more than other kids, so that's how you get kids that say fuck this, fuck that and fuck you, at an age of 7. That's why i'm glad that i don't have kids, because 25 years ago, i already knew what a fucked up world it would become, and here we are, and i predict agian, life won't get better in the future.
@1955JAFO Well said. And I really hope what you said is true; it's not too late. Fortunately my parents raised me well, and I strive to be my best towards myself and others. I keep telling myself I was born/am living in the wrong era. All I can wonder is, what happened? How?
@1955JAFO Oh yes the 50's were such a moral wholesome time! When racism was still okay and everybody smoked and it was still okay to hit your wife if she burnt the pot roast!
@ACETYGRA How is that relevant to this video? This is just showing a family interacting in a caring and functional manner, and you would have us disregard it because not everyone in the 50's lived a moral life...and smoked (?) - does that fall under moral? Presumably you would also disregard any attempt to make such a film today because we're still making mistakes as a society. Let's celebrate the progress we've made since the 50s while embracing the values we still agree on 50 years later.
@ACETYGRA well .....it is no more moral now...in fact it is worse....since the 1950s teen pregnancy has "skyrocketed", crime has skyrocketed, murder rate "skyrocketed", school drop outs "skyrocketed", illegal drug use "skyrocketed"....suicides way up, robberies way up, the economy destroyed by modern thinking politicians, ....and what the hell has "smoking" to do with morals...so if you smoke cigarettes you are considered the same as a rapist or murderer?
as old as it is.... the basics are RESPECT, DISCIPLINE, WELL MANNERED, AND, CONSIDERATE. A lot of loser families these days, cant even follow them anymore.
@yis2 Many families just don't care. They use the excuse of "were just to busy" to talk to each other or have a meal together. His is a novel concept, instead of texting your husband, sister, brother or whoever in the other why not put down......better yet, turn OFF the cell phone, get up and walk into the other room and TALK to that person. That would be such a tragedy for some people if that happened!!
I feel lucky that I was raised in my grandparent's house; we had dinner together every night. Actually, minus the misogynist "women in the kitchen" thinking (which, admittedly, only recently left my house), this could be any weeknight at my house. I think we have some of those same dishes! I have fond memories of family dinners there, and plan to do the same thing with my own children.
@yis2 I agree with you completely. my family gave up on the family dinner tradition when I was still pretty young (we're talking 1990's here) and as a result people just ate dinner in front of the TV whenever they wanted and didn't wait on anyone. My wife was horrified by my lack of traditional manners. I'll not make the same mistake with my kids.
Thats because it was FICTION. As much "respect", "well mannered" or "considerate" you consider that generation, you wouldnt feel the same if you were anything execept white & middle/upper class. These same people with so-called family values beat up jews, disowned their gay children, shamed their pregnant daughters to suicide, walked over the poor & lynched blacks. They were merely uptight fasicsts perpetuating a comformist culture. I say fuck this family & good-riddance.
@88Keyz101 right. alcohol and prescription sedative abuse were rampant as well, especially amongst bored and depressed housewives. these films were more social engineering/post war propaganda than an actual reflection of reality. sadly, many middle class Americans bought into these fictional ideals and when they failed to live up to them, we saw an enormous spike in divorce rates during the 70s. mental health problems were "treated" with electroshock therapy and frontal lobe lobotomies
WTF kind of misogynistic crap is this? Mother and daughter fix the meal, and dress up for the men, while the son does his homework. Doesn't the daughter have homework? Why isn't the son in the kitchen helping? This pisses me the fuck off. I'd tell "father" to fix his own damn dinner, and make "son" do the dishes in an apron.
minorities have truly messed the world..Everything after 1963...the world got messed up. White Men ruling is better. Screw woman, minorities and other class stuff. the 1950 were the best times. Now, it is illegals, spics, blacks, towelheads, crap like that. i loved racism and i loved it when white men ruled the world. Non-whites and non-males have messed the world up big time. Lets go back to the 1950s when things were peaceful and smoother...i love simple times and things
@onewhoknows7 Life on earth will never be perfect, despite what the malcontent utopian liberals tell you. Family problems were "hidden unlike today?" What the heck does that mean?
@1ndabag it means that family problems were kept behind closed doors back in the 'fifties. Everyone kept their skeletons in the closet (in more ways than one) and did not make a public issue of them. Everyone kept up the illusion that they were the perfect American suburban family--I mean, what would the neighbors think? No dirty linen aired! In today's reality-show world, things that no one discussed (alcoholism, homosexuality, adultery, domestic abuse) are broadcast for everyone to see.
"In today's reality-show world, things that no one discussed (alcoholism, homosexuality, adultery, domestic abuse) are broadcast for everyone to see."
Yeah, abnd the results have been so wonderful, yes?
@DblC3 actually....who the hell wants to know other peoples problems.......i liked it better when they kept their skeletons in the closet. I couldn't care less that My neighbor is an alcoholic and his 13 year old daughter is knocked up. I have enough problems of my own. Find the biggest closet you have and just fill it with skeletons and throw away the key.
this looks like a fake family. this family is so unrealistic to me because families have flaws in life and that, that does have those flaws and there will be situations in life seeing if you can get through them.
@34099832 The idea was to present a best case, so that everyone that cared enough could try to improve their own family environment, just like non-slobs do today. Of course today you present slob families all over tv so everyone feels ok about being a slob, so what's the point in trying to improve? But it's "realistic", not like the "fake" families.
This is a bit extreme, if you ask me. Everything good about then is nonexistent now, and everything good now was nonexistent now. Neither then, nor now is better in my honest opinion.
brilliant. this is how dinner should be. they missed out the part were father gives mother a good crack across the cheek for burning the potatoes. we need to bring back 50's mentality. when there was nothing wrong with domestic violence!!!! (I am joking of course before anyone starts whinging.....and no I'm not saying domestic violence's something to be joked about......my wife has the black eye to prove it haha)
the 50s seemed great but it seems girls were tought to be wives mothers and house keepers instead of letting her no she could go out and get a job she didnt have to be a mother wife and house keeper
@LittlePinky82 i never once said people who dont have mothers dont have a good family dont put words in my mouth im saying a female is half the time the back bone of the family there is NOTHING wrong with a family who for what ever reason hasnt got a mother get over ya self
@tracytcb111111111111 Yes you did. You said the mother was the backbone of the family and what made the family so yes you did say people who don't have mothers their families aren't as good. So you should get over YOURself.
@tracytcb111111111111 You're still replying? Wow I guess I do matter to you eh? And YOU put the words there hon. Not a mind reader. I think you're the one who needs to get out more hon. We don't live in the 1950s anymore and haven't well for a long time. I love how you're STILL responding to me while I apparently don't matter lol. Hon get a hobby already. I love you telling me to get off the computer when you said a few posts ago I don't matter and you're still responding. LOL! No life?

And unlike you I'm not going to keep responding a couple of posts later when I say I'm done. Lol. Oh hon you've so cracked me up. Better than a reality tv show it was so funny.
@plojka1 Oh how insulting and holier than thou you are. What about single parent families with only a male or gay couple families? They're just as good as any other family. You're gross.
@plojka1 dont worry about this little pinky82 she dosent understand anything so dont even try to explain she has a big chip on her sholder no one has put males down but were wrong for what were saying she keeps comming back to this page to put people down
@tracytcb111111111111 Lol I love how in the comment below you go on about how I'm not worth it and yet you replied to me THREE times and now you're still talking about me. Lol yeah I'm soo not worth it that's why you talked about me three times. Hahahahaha. Oh brother. Talk about having a chip on your shoulder! I guess some people can't handle the truth about the 50s. Sorry hon but truth is truth and the 50s was shit. And it's not to put people down.

I love how you like two posts ago said I don't matter yet here you are still whining that I called out your shit. So hilarious. You crack me the fuck up. I'm dying here laughing at you. So see I'm happy. I'm happy cracking up at your shit. LOL! Psst here's some advice: watch what you post if you don't want people pointing out your shit. Or you can just keep it to yourself.
@tracytcb111111111111 I'm cracking up with you so shitting around that I called out your shit yet you apparently said I don't matter. Huh. Apparently I do if you care so much what I say. I find that fucking hilarious!
@LittlePinky82 hey u big sack of shit how many times a day do u have to wipe your mouth with all that shit comming out of it? what happand to u as a child to be the type of person u are so nasty hatefull? didnt mummy give u enough hugs now u hate strong women? we have a good laugh at u. im not backing down from a big mouth bitch like ya self your a joke get over your childhood its clear to see u must of had a crap up bringing with everything u have said cant wait to hear from u just 4 laughs
@tracytcb111111111111 Huh here I thought you said I don't matter? Yet you're STILL replying to me. Tsk. So sad. I guess you don't have any friends so you have to reply to some stranger on the internet who supposedly doesn't matter to you. LOL. You're a crack up. Oh and at least have some decent grammar and spelling if you're going to respond please. You look like an idiot.
@LittlePinky82 go get a big hug from mummy that will make u feel better or dosent mummy want u she knows what type of person you are ive got a wonderful life a loving family great friends a great husband the best job ever couldnt ask for more. dont be a hater your probley on welfair and have a horrble life and hate the thought of someone who is happy with there life so you take your anger on people you dont no and who you no you will never come face to face with
@tracytcb111111111111 Lol maybe you might wanna be able to spell "welfare" first hon. Take out anger? So pointing out your comment is wrong is now anger? Wow how lame. You don't get out much do you?
@tracytcb111111111111 And I thought you said a couple posts ago I didn't matter yet you're STILL responding to me. So fucking hilarious!!! I'm cracking up hon. You're so funny.
@tracytcb111111111111 Lol no hon sorry I had my group of friends and people liked me so sorry hon. And I am right. I've known plenty of families without mother's and they do just fine. So that takes your shit up your ass. And because I'm not stuck in the 50s like you doesn't mean I didn't have a bad childhood. Too bad for you my life is wonderful and I'm loving it. So thanks for your concern hon it's sweet but my life is wonderful and I'm very happy. So I'm done now so it's been funny.
@tracytcb111111111111 Me? Nasty and hateful for standing up against bigots and racists? Ah you're so hilarious. Strong women? I AM a strong woman you fucker. Now go act like I don't matter to you and fuck off. Go talk about how you need a mother for a family and all other families are suck ass like the sexist you are. Fuck off bitch.
@tracytcb111111111111 I still love how a few posts down you were going on about how I'm some nobody and don't matter yet a couple posts later you're still responding. LOL! It's freakin hilarious!!! Oh honey you crack me up. I bet you're still going to respond again. Lol. I guess you have a short term memory? Oh hon you're so funny.
@LittlePinky82 u started this shit when all i said is its the woman who has a strong back bone. in the family for years its been the mother who has kept the family toghter and kept the family going and you start with your shit wait untill my friends read your new crap your a fucken sookie bitch u low down dirty cunt and i hate using that word but thats all you are so fuck you and everything u belive in go wait for yor food stamps then you can sell them for what ever drug your on fucker
@tracytcb111111111111 And assuming that other families without a mother aren't strong? What a bunch of shit. I love how you act all holier than thou and claiming to be some woman defender while calling a woman a bitch. Lol. You're so pathetic. I love how you're STILL responding to me. Hahahaha!! And yet here I thought I didn't matter yet you're still responding to me. HILARIOUS!!
@tracytcb111111111111 And is calling me a bitch and a druggie the best you can do? Oh hon. That's so lame. Are you stuck in the 80s as well as the 50s? At least make up your mind which decade you're in.
@tracytcb111111111111 I guess you wouldn't call me a bitch if I just sat there with my mouth shut and let you say your stupid shit and be the good little woman and stay in the home and cook you dinner right? So pathetic. Get out of the 50s hon. This is the 21st century. Get over it.
@tracytcb111111111111 Oh and you best your bet I'm going to "bring people down" if they're posting ridiculous shit like sexism and racism. I don't tolerate that shit so you can bet I'm going to speak up. If you don't like it maybe you, and those other people, shouldn't post racist and/or sexist shit. Get it?
@tracytcb111111111111 No it's not sad. It's great. Women can work if they want. We can be president. We can vote. We can fall in love and marry men (or women) of different races. If you're gay you aren't told you have a mental issue. Women can join the military if they want and do the same jobs as their male counterparts. Thank God it will never be like the 50s.
@LittlePinky82 when i say sad i mean the way familys were towards each outher the way pepole treated each outher u could rely on your fellow man to help each outher no one today wants to get invole no one has resecpt for each outher anymore
@tracytcb111111111111 Get over it. And we don't put up with racist, sexist or homophobic bullshit anymore. People are fighting back and standing up for what's right. So get over it. This isn't the 1950s anymore thank God.
@LittlePinky82 do u get on a page just to start shit and to put words in someones mouth your not even worth it im not wasting my time trying to explain something you dont understand bye forever one more thing im not the bitch it sounds like your the bitch stop feeling sorry for yourself and start thinking possitive
@LittlePinky82 if u dont like the 50s what the hell are u doing on this page just to tell people how wrong and horrble they are u dont click on to something u dont like u stupied bitch
@tracytcb111111111111 I at least can spell "stupid" right if I'm going to insult someone or check my spell checker before I post and don't make myself look like an idiot. I like to laugh at propaganda which is what this video is you dumbshit. If you think this is the real 50s then you are a true idiot. Huh and here I thought I wasn't worth it yet you're worrying about my time and you responded to me three times. Lol you crack me the fuck up.
@mukome LOL.. That reminds me of when I ate dinner with this one family that had a "centerpiece" (It was like a vase full of flowers I think) And I couldn't even see the other person when I was talking to her. I tried not to laugh but I had to say something about it. I must admit that it made me feel a little more comfortable being hidden while eating.
@oiyabastard lol....not only is there no dinner table anymore....each member takes their plate of food and eats in front of their own computer in separate rooms
@MissileD11 I'm pretty sure even an intercity emigrant from Equatorial Guinea who can understand English or know the translation from their particular language then to put the centerpiece in the CENTER wow amazing.
this family reminds me a little too much of my dad's growing up: why the heck are the older kids WAY older than the younger one? that's um, strange! the only difference was my grandma actually worked for a living! she had to with my grandpa being an alcoholic and all! not every wife and mother stayed home, people! this is such a stereotype of what life should've been and it wasn't like that. my mom's mom worked off and on while my mom was growing up, too. both my parents turned out normal.
@sjk6101983 Videos like this made life seem wonderful and gave families something to strive for...alas, reality was way different...the concept of the breadwinner father and stay-at-home mom was a given for many, many decades. :(
The appeal of these films for me is that society seemed to value home and family life more than we do now. Of course no one had a Leave it to Beaver perfect home life, but people seemed to strive for it.
@welovenatnalex It's what you see in the film, and in roles that makes ones opinion. Apparently I see something totally different as I see something totally wonderful in the family unit. Everyone has their own opinion ... and even if this has certain things that I disagree with specifically ... the idea of such a family unit is by far the best
@welovenatnalex Lol, yeah I can agree with that. But these are just actors, and if represented in a real family your going to see that emotion. It's the habits, the care, the respect, that's needed and what I love about this video and time period.
@Lachdenan You are probably right. The fact that I don't feel like putting on a dress for my husband has surely ruined the family unit. My husband even laughed at that.
This sounds idealistic but a bit... odd.

"Hi, kids, how was your day?" "Well, Mom crashed the new car, sis got kicked off the cheerleading squad for drinking, Bobby set fire to the band bus, I got suspended for smoking in the cafeteria, and Sally told me that she's late." The father in this family had a college education and a professional job.
They were either teachers, nurses, secretaries, office workers, or store clerks.
nanlisa 6 months ago
I was born in the 50's and I grew up during the 60's and 70's. We used to have dinner at home as well. In fact it was the custom back then.
Nowadays, we got both parents working and we have latchkey kids. I have heard that most juvenile crime occurs between 3 and 6 pm. We also have quick fix microwave dinners and our fast food fix.
I can even make quick meals out of frozen entrees and frozen veggies. But my father still prefers the old-fashioned home-cooked meal.
nanlisa 6 months ago
The last part of the vid is almost like a brain washing guide on how to behave. Although, I do agree with the ideas presented. It's just the way it is presented that is eeriely familiar to brainwashing videos on how to be "perfect".

Call me whatever. But i'd rather live in a crazy, loud, dysfunctional family, then be some little stepford kid. Who can't express their true emotions, be creative, or confide in their families about their problems. These people, as others mentioned, kept their skeletons in their closets, and supressed their true emotions and desires.
I don't care who you are, no one can truly be happy living that way. No matter how perfect you look on the outside.
pancakehead911 7 months ago
@pancakehead911 keep in mind....just like TV shows back then, this is an idealized depiction of how a family should be. In reality it was a little more loose than this. I think the theory was to show the "ideal" situation and maybe people will take just a few pointers from it......like be clean, be polite & show consideration for others. Back then I new very few families that were this strict.....but the general idea is somewhat accurate for the era
inkey2 6 months ago
Very nice and pleasant, wioth emphasis on respect and caring.
Sadly the Marxist hippies destroyed all this in the 60;s, and their monkey followers are here on this page proving it with their idiotic condemnations.
Vebinz 7 months ago 3
@Vebinz There were some truly awful things that happened in the 60s and I am glad to see them gone even if it means giving up this saccharin facade. I don't see how that is hippie or Marxist.
CanadaIndieFilm 2 weeks ago
@CanadaIndieFilm
What "saccharin facade"? All societies have certain values tat they portray and celebrate.
Is a religious society that makes a movie showing characters that pray engagin in a "saccharin facade" because they fail to show those that don't?
Vebinz 2 weeks ago
@Vebinz The movie advises against conversations about unpleasant subject matter. Well that's what happened. There was a lot of child & domestic abuse and nobody talked about it. There was also extreme discrimination. It was only after the "Marxist hippies" destroyed it all that the unpleasant conversations began and exposed how prevalent it was. Things change & it's never all bad or all good. Your memory is selective if you say otherwise.
CanadaIndieFilm 2 weeks ago
@CanadaIndieFilm

To quote MST 3000 "Emotions are for ethnic people"
devilshomie 9 months ago

@1955JAFO
i'm from 66 and grew up in the 70's and in those days we were polite as a kid, because else my father or mother would gave me a pedagogish responsibil and educational slap on the head, to correct me for my big mouth. these days that would be seen as child molest / abuse, whatever they name it these days, so you are not elowed to raise your kids like it should be, and that's how todays kids have no respect, because those little smartasses are to damn inteligent to ( see part 2)
3DPeter 11 months ago
@3DPeter ( Part 2 )
..not know what their righst are.
3DPeter 11 months ago
@1955JAFO Well said. And I really hope what you said is true; it's not too late. Fortunately my parents raised me well, and I strive to be my best towards myself and others. I keep telling myself I was born/am living in the wrong era. All I can wonder is, what happened? How?

Way to recite tired old cliches. You must be real proud.
Vebinz 7 months ago
@ACETYGRA How is that relevant to this video? This is just showing a family interacting in a caring and functional manner, and you would have us disregard it because not everyone in the 50's lived a moral life...and smoked (?) - does that fall under moral? Presumably you would also disregard any attempt to make such a film today because we're still making mistakes as a society. Let's celebrate the progress we've made since the 50s while embracing the values we still agree on 50 years later.
sawyer82nd 7 months ago
@ACETYGRA well .....it is no more moral now...in fact it is worse....since the 1950s teen pregnancy has "skyrocketed", crime has skyrocketed, murder rate "skyrocketed", school drop outs "skyrocketed", illegal drug use "skyrocketed"....suicides way up, robberies way up, the economy destroyed by modern thinking politicians, ....and what the hell has "smoking" to do with morals...so if you smoke cigarettes you are considered the same as a rapist or murderer?

yis2 1 year ago 28

I have fond memories of family dinners there, and plan to do the same thing with my own children.
monny287 1 year ago

88Keyz101 4 months ago
@88Keyz101 right. alcohol and prescription sedative abuse were rampant as well, especially amongst bored and depressed housewives. these films were more social engineering/post war propaganda than an actual reflection of reality. sadly, many middle class Americans bought into these fictional ideals and when they failed to live up to them, we saw an enormous spike in divorce rates during the 70s. mental health problems were "treated" with electroshock therapy and frontal lobe lobotomies

1ndabag 1 year ago
@1ndabag it means that family problems were kept behind closed doors back in the 'fifties. Everyone kept their skeletons in the closet (in more ways than one) and did not make a public issue of them. Everyone kept up the illusion that they were the perfect American suburban family--I mean, what would the neighbors think? No dirty linen aired! In today's reality-show world, things that no one discussed (alcoholism, homosexuality, adultery, domestic abuse) are broadcast for everyone to see.

this looks like a fake family. this family is so unrealistic to me because families have flaws in life and that, that does have those flaws and there will be situations in life seeing if you can get through them.
34099832 1 year ago
@34099832 The idea was to present a best case, so that everyone that cared enough could try to improve their own family environment, just like non-slobs do today. Of course today you present slob families all over tv so everyone feels ok about being a slob, so what's the point in trying to improve? But it's "realistic", not like the "fake" families.

LittlePinky82 1 year ago
@tracytcb111111111111 And is calling me a bitch and a druggie the best you can do? Oh hon. That's so lame. Are you stuck in the 80s as well as the 50s? At least make up your mind which decade you're in.
LittlePinky82 1 year ago
@tracytcb111111111111 I guess you wouldn't call me a bitch if I just sat there with my mouth shut and let you say your stupid shit and be the good little woman and stay in the home and cook you dinner right? So pathetic. Get out of the 50s hon. This is the 21st century. Get over it.
LittlePinky82 1 year ago
@tracytcb111111111111 Oh and you best your bet I'm going to "bring people down" if they're posting ridiculous shit like sexism and racism. I don't tolerate that shit so you can bet I'm going to speak up. If you don't like it maybe you, and those other people, shouldn't post racist and/or sexist shit. Get it?

@strawberryscent1 i agree with every thing u said it will never be like the 50s witch is sad
tracytcb111111111111 1 year ago
@tracytcb111111111111 No it's not sad. It's great. Women can work if they want. We can be president. We can vote. We can fall in love and marry men (or women) of different races. If you're gay you aren't told you have a mental issue. Women can join the military if they want and do the same jobs as their male counterparts. Thank God it will never be like the 50s.
LittlePinky82 1 year ago
@LittlePinky82 when i say sad i mean the way familys were towards each outher the way pepole treated each outher u could rely on your fellow man to help each outher no one today wants to get invole no one has resecpt for each outher anymore
tracytcb111111111111 1 year ago
@tracytcb111111111111 Get over it. And we don't put up with racist, sexist or homophobic bullshit anymore. People are fighting back and standing up for what's right. So get over it. This isn't the 1950s anymore thank God.

Good choice by daughter to move the centerpiece. Kids these days are always leaving the centerpiece on the table, blocking everything.

@mukome Those hooligans and their centerpieces...
LittlePatrician 1 year ago
@mukome LOL.. That reminds me of when I ate dinner with this one family that had a "centerpiece" (It was like a vase full of flowers I think) And I couldn't even see the other person when I was talking to her. I tried not to laugh but I had to say something about it. I must admit that it made me feel a little more comfortable being hidden while eating.
Steveandrew321 1 year ago
@mukome Most kids today have NO clue what a centerpiece even is less where to put it on a table.
MissileD11 1 year ago 18
@MissileD11 theres no dinner table anymore they eat hotpokets over the sink , THIS IS ALL BY DESIGN YOUTUBE NEW WORLD ORDER THE FAMILY
oiyabastard 7 months ago
@oiyabastard lol....not only is there no dinner table anymore....each member takes their plate of food and eats in front of their own computer in separate rooms
inkey2 6 months ago
@MissileD11 I'm pretty sure even an intercity emigrant from Equatorial Guinea who can understand English or know the translation from their particular language then to put the centerpiece in the CENTER wow amazing.
SuperAwesomeCloudMan 5 months ago
@MissileD11 Actually most kids do know what it is and where to put it would be in the name hence "centerpiece"

this family reminds me a little too much of my dad's growing up: why the heck are the older kids WAY older than the younger one? that's um, strange! the only difference was my grandma actually worked for a living! she had to with my grandpa being an alcoholic and all! not every wife and mother stayed home, people! this is such a stereotype of what life should've been and it wasn't like that. my mom's mom worked off and on while my mom was growing up, too. both my parents turned out normal.
sjk6101983 1 year ago
@sjk6101983 Videos like this made life seem wonderful and gave families something to strive for...alas, reality was way different...the concept of the breadwinner father and stay-at-home mom was a given for many, many decades. :(
MelanieLouM 1 year ago
The appeal of these films for me is that society seemed to value home and family life more than we do now. Of course no one had a Leave it to Beaver perfect home life, but people seemed to strive for it.
paradiseshow1988 1 year ago 2
Sigh, I was born 60 years too late ... I realize nothing is 'this' perfect .. but boy what I wouldn't give to have grown up or lived during the 50's!
lonewulf44 1 year ago 18
If anyone agrees with this than I'm scared what your family is like. Gender roles are beyond stupid.
welovenatnalex 1 year ago
@welovenatnalex It's what you see in the film, and in roles that makes ones opinion. Apparently I see something totally different as I see something totally wonderful in the family unit. Everyone has their own opinion ... and even if this has certain things that I disagree with specifically ... the idea of such a family unit is by far the best
lonewulf44 1 year ago
@lonewulf44 it's nice to have a close family but I prefer a family with a little more emotion xD
welovenatnalex 1 year ago
@welovenatnalex Lol, yeah I can agree with that. But these are just actors, and if represented in a real family your going to see that emotion. It's the habits, the care, the respect, that's needed and what I love about this video and time period.
lonewulf44 1 year ago
@welovenatnalex I wondered why nobody else had said this too. The women of the family OWE it to the men???? PA-lease
JettWorship65 1 year ago 2
@JettWorship65 I know how ridiculous! >.<
welovenatnalex 1 year ago
@JettWorship65 It's precisely that selfish attitude that destroyed the family.
Lachdenan 1 year ago
@Lachdenan You are probably right. The fact that I don't feel like putting on a dress for my husband has surely ruined the family unit. My husband even laughed at that.
JettWorship65 1 year ago
man someone please tell me the name of this narrator it sounds depressing

With your own family, you can relax and be yourself. Just make sure it's your best self.
