  • Freddie loved Lennon and he even wrote a song for him called "Life is real". It's in the Hot Space album. Two genius that I love and miss a lot.

  • i'm blown away. thanks for posting.

  • maestro corea a maestro

  • Hey can someone please reply this comment? Did freddie sing this after john died or before just for fun? please reply anyone

  • @JPhil151 Given the almost informal nature of this arrangement, I'm sure it was done after the news hit, plus it was a day later in Germany, and I have no doubt that Freddie and the rest of Queen would have known, if not directly, then probably through David Bowie, or Bowie's cronies, or possibly through the record company, maybe even from Yoko herself.

  • @HoleHeadedLiar ah i see thank you

  • No problem.

  • Wow....Freddie singing John Lennon. I'm in heaven listening to this. God bless Freddie and John. I miss them both. Waaaah..I can't take it :)

  • My favorite Lennon song with my favorite band :)

  • Just hear the crowd. I feel the same as they do..."HEELLLL YEAHHH!!!!"

  • great pretender ,........hello of course he did covers!

  • Freddie did several covers, but they were always done live in front of an audience and never released on an album, unless said album was a live recording of a concert, like Live At Wembley, where they did a few covers such as Hello Mary-Lou.

  • is it bad that im crying? :(

  • @asdxxme No its what makes you human

  • is is possible there are two gods?????

  • First time this was sung was Wembley Arena 9/12/80, I know coz I was there :o)

  • THE GREATEST SINGER EVER PERFOMING A SONG FROM THE GREATEST COMPOSER EVER !!!!

  • Hoy celebramos 30 años de la muerte de john lennon y tmbn 19 de la freddie mercury el pasado 24 de noviembre, we love they!!!

  • They did also jailhouse rock, en tutti frutti

  • Oh, people.. When John said "Imagine there's no heaven", he also said "Imagine all the people living for today", so he was basically saying "Imagine all the people, living as though they didn't give a shit abotu afterlife" At least, thats how I see it.. So, maybe John Lennon didn't believe in heaven, but I wouldn't get that if I just heard this song. And anyway, this is a BEAUTIFUL cover of Imagine. My favorite, definitely.

  • they should used this on the final album, freshend up etc wata waste

  • Freddie Mercury + John Lennon = 2 GENIUS ROCKING IN HEAVEN

  • @Queenmime Imagine there's no heaven?

  • this was very touching! I loved this cover! My two fave artists! R.I.P. John Lennon, R.I.P. Freddie Mercury! This literally brought tears to my eyes! ='( and =')

  • Right after John Lennon died...Queen were huge fans of the Beatles...

  • and I thought he didn't do covers

  • @Bennyclay661 no? and what about the elvis songs??

ha also performed big spender, jail house rock, inmigrant song, hello mary lou and many more. and they all sound awsome on freddie´s voice!!!

  • @Bennyclay661 he only sang them live sometimes queen never recorded someone else's song

  • @Bennyclay661 I heard the original version of Great Pretender in the car yesterday, never knew it was covered, but still all is great! :)

  • amazing!

  • hope they master this track release on future anthology im sure thay can, they do all on those re,releases giv us sumfin new plees

  • i'm sure if freddy mercury had die first instead of lennon , johh would perform we are the champions

  • Why is it that we lose special people , those we never met but if lucky you get to see them. For example, the greatest intertainer,

Freddie Mercury, John Lennon, Michael Jackson and Elvis.

This just shows how powerful music is to each individuals regardless of age, race or your belief. It show we as people can have unity and every each person on this earth are special people. All of you men and women!

Maybe someday, we will have peace on earth. You can make it happen. It starts from you.

  • RIP John and Freddie, two masters of their craft, great men, and gone way too soon

  • @GamrDan I know the world is very unfair.

  • Great tribute to a great man by a great man!

  • Simply amazing. Freddie was a god.

  • Like an orgasm wrapped in a climax, surrounded by pleasure.

  • a genius singing another genuises song, how great

    thanks for posting

  • good good i get bit tears in eyes beast cover i have heard..

  • This is Freddie when he was at the height of his vocal powers, makes this song sound so effortless even with the high notes.

  • He was covering the song not imitating john lennon, its called artistic liscence.

  • Go worship Hitler's grave dipshit

  • @dreamezz He follows the Lennon version with very little alteration at all. You must be tone deaf.

  • @dreamezz Its' maybe not the best performance of Freddie but when he ang it, he doesn't care about that. He just wanted to tribute to John Lennon who had died just a few hours or a few days before...

    For me, i think it's great :-)

  • i accidently put a thumbs down on your comment, i mean to put a thumbs up man sorry!

  • shit hapends bro... we´re all humans.

  • In every queen concert the audience always participates even if it's not a song from Queen

  • This is great, mate, thanks!

  • posiadał takie walory głosowe że mógł zaśpiewać wszystko i każdego bez najmniejszych problemów robiąc to lepiej

  • uihhh... eu sabia que o freddie algum dia teria que ter feito uma cover a esta musica...

  • Freddy has been the best singer of the world....

  • i think they're singing somewhere togheter

    *-*

  • What concert is this from?

  • read the description pal

    its from frankcourt 1980 ^-^

this song was performed the same day that lennon died... thats what i read.

  • @camionero1291 yes- they decided to play this song after hearing Lennon was killed- it is 1 song that describes Lennon so well- tragic.

  • @camionero1291 No the song was performed the day after Lennon died cause Lennon died at around 10:30 PM.

  • @camionero1291 I have this CD of rare queen songs, and ths day of this recordings seems to be December 14 1980, a few days after that...

  • @camionero1291 it was december 14th not the same day....

  • @camionero1291 Wasn't that at Wembley?

  • @camionero1291 That would be Dec. 8th.

  • Greatest of all! Let him entertain you all..

  • Rest in peace GENIUS.

Freddie was such an awesome man!

  • Freddie Mercury´s voice is absolutely stunningly beautiful!!!! I love the way he sings this awesome song....RIP my dear FREDDIE

  • john lennon doesn't even believe in heaven

  • Comment removed

  • Both versions are great. It's just that Lennon wrote this song and it was like a part of his own soul, it contained his own ideas and thoughts, so it sounds so special in his version.

  • During The tribute on Freddie NO ONe sings the way he sang his song..but this tribute of him to Lenon comes better in my opinion

  • Only the very best can sing any song and turn it out better than the original.

    Love You Freddie

  • God how do i love thee

  • freddies a hell of alot better at singing than lennon, still lennons version is better,

  • True.

  • the best of the best...

    I love you Freddie

  • wow

  • i like this version alot better, Freddie is bomb

  • Beautiful cover. (:

  • I am a huge Queen fan but I think the original was better.

  • i don't know that they made a cover of this song..AMAZING!

  • wow!

Its like I grew up listening to both bands.

I was all about queen and beatles

from the age of like 5 or since i remember to 10

    and never related one another...

    this is great.

  • i had no idea this existed!!!

  • good job, freddie, I am sure you made john proud and you guys are hangin out in the after-life...lmao

  • "we are more famous than jesus"

    wasn't true?

  • yeah man.

  • if it wasent then as some fools tought, it is thru now, no doubts Jesus is a fake and a dream, unlike all the true stuff Lennon said. In the end, only jealous people can kill a dream and the man who had it. The dream of Jesus has been killed and Lennon's one too.

  • Queen loved the beatles! they loved there stuff and what they could do in a studio. this is really cool to hear!

  • LOL

    they were haha

  • its bad coz u said john lennon is burnin in hell u fool lol

  • yes but im crysty and we think this. give ur msn man. no chat public made spam lol -_-

  • nah i dont thinks sooo

  • Freddie Mercury and John Lennon are hanging out together in a better place. In a place where there's no religion, no heaven, no hell, no borders, living for today, no countries, nothing to kill or die for, living life in peace.......

  • The Queen was better like the Beatles always. They knew more and more. The tags had degree, they were learned and the music.:-)).The Queen had a good market one good back. So all which have to the world succes.

  • I never heard this before, thanks a lot.

  • Frankfurt 1980! Where WAS I ???

  • excellent tribute . i am just now hip to know Freddy sang this song in concert. he is so loved and cherished also.

thanks for additional info dawnandmark2003 and of course video experience camionero1291

  • thats definitely freddie idiots

  • this concert was on 14.12.1980 6 days after John Lennon was shot so i guess it was just a tribute to him.

I remember reading that on the night he was killed Queen were playing in London and were quite upset about the news and performed this song presumably for the first time.

  • that is definetely freddie's voice

  • This voice is like Freddies', I think it's possible that's He.

  • this isn't freddie!!!

  • then who is he?

  • @camionero1291 i listen to queen for more than 30 years now...i know freddies voice like he is my brother...and of course, its him singing...just disturbed by some tape hiss....

  • @zibaldone3 That is Freddie's distinctive voice

  • @zibaldone3 YES IT IS FREDDIE.

  • then who´s singing?

    huh?

    who?????

  • ShadowSenator This is Freddie just with the trable on his amp up more than usual

  • great man great voice ...is better then ..original version by john lennon

  • Awesome! I didn't know Freddie did Lennon's Imagine cover! After all, Lennon was an inspiration for Freddie.

  • Yes and how frequent is it that an inspiration is exceeded by the one it inspired? Never. But somehow Freddie exceeded Lennon in every way.

  • is better SINING MERCury!

    mercury 4ever =)

  • si es queen porque ya revise todas sus giras y no hay niguno donde canten esta

  • "there will never be peace in the world

im not saying im a peace hippy or whatever but

because people have too many different beliefs, egos and opinions."

That's exactly how it is supposed to be. It's a part of a bigger plan.

  • this is exactly why

there will never be peace in the world

im not saying im a peace hippy or whatever but

because people have too many different beliefs, egos and opinions. the only thing that brings everyone in the world together is music

  • i understand what your saying, but don't take it so literally. Imagine is more of a simple idealistic song, where the idea of peace of earth circulating around the abolishment of greed and clashing beliefs. Lennon also implies that Love in the world is worth dying for. Its just the way you want to look at it

  • Even still a world without greed and clashing beliefs doesn't sound ideal in my mind. You need the bad to better understand the good. Just "imagine" a world where everyone loved one another and helped each other implicitly. I think creativity would become stagnant there'd be no fire left in our hearts.

  • yea i know, theres never going to be a world without bad anyway haha. I just think Lennon's song is ideal because it just gets me thinking about all the dumb issues, wars, deaths, and trajedy just because 2 regions different religions.

i do not believe in the communist theme of the song though. It seems like a world where everyones loves each other and everyones the same will leave no room for improvement

  • Have hope. The world can be better is all the song says. You don't have to die for hope, do you?

  • What the hell are you talking about? The song says, quite explicitly, "nothing to die for".

  • live for nothing

    die for something

  • Great song, unbelievable voice. Well done Lennon, but Freddie was God.

  • freddie was just god. i can't better that statement.

  • we're the last remaining lucky people with great musicians like john and freddie in our reach. the legend will exist but the feel of the echos of their music in decades like 70's 80's and early 90's seems to be depleting. everything seems generic. i am only 22, and have no experience of john lennon alive, he died before i was born. but i will tell my kids of how awesome his music was, is and how it was and is. but i guess its important to remember that legendary musicians are in there few. peace

  • Freddie Mercury is a legend. End of.

    RIP Farrokh Bulsara

  • Beautiful..what a tribute to Lennon! Freddie made it perfect with his amazing voice. RIP <3

  • there is something special about both : )

they don't have such amazing voices ... but their singing is just amazing :)

  • i really hate how people are so quick to judge freddie just on the fact he was gay..it doesnt matter if he was...he still made great music

  • Man you are so right. RIP Freddie and John.

  • john lennon, not deacon!!! lol

  • Ohwhwh, i thought you meant Deacon!

    sorry!

  • grow up ...pussyboy, you dont have to be gay to realise freddie's voice is the best. i'm a lennon fan but never for his-not very special- voice. you know, they say being homophovic indicates a-dont want to admit i'm -gay situation.

  • couldnt have said it better, you speak the truth. great comment

  • How can you judge someone

  • I know Freddie looked uo to John Lennon, but Freddie has the best voice ever!!!

  • Now Freddie and John are singing this in heaven :) Wonderful thought!

  • shut up, freddie is the best singer in the world, he beat John Lennon

  • no no never say that!!! mercury himself can't appreciate that he can be better than lennon!!!

no no lennon his voice it's something special!!

  • seriously! i am part of the Queen fan club and everyone voted for freddie more than john lennon

  • what a voice.. damn :(

  • Thank you for sharing this from your Dad's camera- time may have lost the images, but never the message. Beautiful performance of a song written by one of our greatest songwriters, and sang by one of our greatest singers.

  • Perfecto!

  • WOW! I never even knew that Freddie did a cover of Imagine. Great thing to find.

  • Absolutely beautiful!

Shame Freddie and John never did a song together I would have been great!

  • Very very cool!!!! Like very much!!!!!!!!!
