For as much as I adore Lush those live vocals were sometimes cringeworthy. But then, so were bands like the Stone Roses, so tbh i spose it's not that big a deal.
They had good days and bad days... I'd say this was one of the better days, actually.
Miki and Phil are both on record as saying that "Ocean" (this song) was one of the toughest songs of theirs to do live, mainly because the chord progressions are so non-traditional--it's Emma's song, of course.
"Ocean" was written by Miki, not Emma. "Monochrome" is the song I think that was most difficult for Phil to remember how to play cause the bass notes were different in every chorus.
Thanks for the video. I caught Lush in Florida in 92 in a driving rainstorm. They played Ocean and the whole set was so atmospheric-it was one of those moments that you long for.
I remember tuning into this show, just to see Lush live and was blown away by this strange, wonderful, sexy song. I saw them a year or two later in Derby. I was on the front row and Miki crouched down during a guitar solo and mouthed 'Hello' at me with a beaming smile. The remembrance of that still makes me melt...
I'm really addicted to "Spooky", specially this song and "Nothing Natural".
...I'm also addicted to watch Miki's sexy performances from the "Spooky" tour.

They were never very good singers. If miki had laid off the cigs and took singing lessons they would've done a lot better live.
I love 'em tho. The recordings were cool. They were really badly treated by the twatty english press of the time. I.e. Melody Maker and NME.
I'm quite glad the MM went tits up. I could never stand Neil "the kunt" Kulkarni and that fat pompous twat Everett True.

Miki actually wrote this song, ironically.

Any more tunes from this well recorded show? One of the great unknown bands of all time...
