Soul Train was the personification of ethnic diversity for sure from the 1970's to 2000's. RIP to Soul Train and Don Cornelius and to Whitney Houston too.
looking at this lets me kno I was born in the wrong decade! .. Rick and Teena were GENIUSES in their own time! both are missed dearly ....its a shame Ricks personal problems overshadowed his amazing vocal gift and ability to write such beautiful songs! The King and Queen Of Punk Funk reunited ! I kno they up there singing their hearts out! maybe Rick found the Peace he so wanted ! and Lady T got to be with her mentor once again! Rest Easy ! Love Always and FOREVER !!!
@Lifetimepanther1944 `SO WELL PUT, I THANK GOD I WAS BORN AND HAD MUCH FUN IN THIS ERROR, 1960 & 1970 WERE SOME SUPER,AWESOME MUSIC, TRUE LOVE MUSIC,ALL THAT & MORE,YES SIR BUDDY~~~{R.I.P. LADY T & RICK & DON}
@ThePleasedude You hit the hammer on the nail. Have you seen the post from a girl posting 'I knew she was white from the age of 3ys. She just does'nt sound "Black" '. Can you believe someone can be lower than STUPID!!
The only other man on this planet who I idolized besides Stevie Wonder! Happy Birthday (Mayor of Stone City) Rick James! Sadly, R.I.P. Don Cornelius, part of my childhood has died once again, 1st Rick, then Michael Jackson, now D.C. If I'm alive when Stevie is gone, I dunno what i'mma do!
Don Cornelius, creator of the long-running TV dance show "Soul Train," shot himself to death Wednesday morning at his Los Angeles home, police said. He was 75.
Happy Birthday Rick James he would have been 64 years old today. Thank you for all the great music you left behind. We will keep that Freak Flag waving high...
you obviously trying to be technical about a white person performing on Soul Train. If you are talking about a a white person in general being on Soul Train then you can go with whoever but if you are talking about a singer,it was Gino,And if yo saw the Soul Train documentary on VH-1 Classic,Don Cornelius and other performers acknowledge Gino as the first white performer.
@theicon713 With all due respect, this information isn't technically correct, either. Gino Vanelli was the first white person to perform as a main act on Soul Train, but a guy named PAUL RISER, who was the trombone player for THE FUNK BROTHERS, which was the studio band that Motown used for most of it's big hits in the 60's through mid 70's, was actually the first white (Jewish) person to ever perform onstage for a TV broadcast.
R.i.p Teena R.i.p Rick. I wasent even born in 79 but all these tunes were passed on to me by my parents a long with 100's of soul train videos & i LOVE this soul music. Nothing even comes close to these tunes. Long live Soul music.
@DetroitLives313 I'm looking at the record right now its 100% 1979. Also if you watch this video they say released in 1979, also the writing on the video says 1979 & if you google search its 1979 or youtube search they all the downloads of this tune say 1979 ;-)
@DetroitLives313 your WRONG. You should really learn about the history of soul music before you comment or you will just make yourself look kinda dumb like you have just done now.
@susanbanatine WTF are you talking about? Do you know who I am? No you do not! For the record (pun intended) this is Funk Music (aka "Funk and Roll"). The whole goddamed album was recorded in 1978, released in 79. You kids are starting to get on my nerves.
@DetroitLives313 Yes, i know who you are. your an ARSEHOLE that cant accept when your WRONG. Ive looked it up & it says "RECORDED IN 79 & RELEASED IN 79 now shut the fcuk up biatch. Also i have people agreeing with me on here. Now be quiet you fool.
@DetroitLives313 I don't think that was a nice thing to say!!! Before you make your foul remarks learn the history of music as well as talent. This is better music to hear rather than to play that bullshit that you hear these days!! I know good music when I hear it.She came out with great hits. I listened to her every since I was 4 years old and I am 31 now! I smell lots of haterade!! This lady had talent!! Shut the fuck up!
@susanbanatine You are 100% correct it was recorded in 1979 and released in 1979. It was not 1978. Right after this 1980 two lp's came out Lady T and late 80 Irons in the Fire then 1981 was It Must Be Magic and Teena then left Motown and went to Epic. 1983 Robbery came out on Epic... so on so the rest is history.. RIP TEENA!!!
@vuman40a I know im right Vuman i just could not be bothered to keep explaining to DetroitLives313. People like him that seem to think they know it all but really know nothing just make me giggle. But thanks for verifying that i was correct. Have a good new yr.
I love this thank u i enjoted the hell out of this i was happy then sad two people gone i am their biggest fan rest in peace ill never forget teena and rick
@discoverydavid If you Thumb UP the message above it will stay at the top under the video for all to see as a reminder for people to shut up about that pointless subject.
I NEVER seen this before, I'd only saw clips of this perfomance up til now. THANKS for posting it! Teena looked great! She always sounded black but danced like a whits chick! lol. LOVED IT! forever LadyT.
LETS KEEP THIS SHIT 10000000000000000000000%%%%%%%% PERCENT GANGSTA!!!!! HE WAS THE GREATEST PIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP EVVVVVEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!
Rick's biggest contribution to music was Teena Marie without a doubt and that was a huge contribution because without Teena, there would be no MARIAH, Aguilera, Lisa Stansfield, Joss Stone, Taylor Dayne, Eminem, and The Brockert Initiative which has helped every single person in the Music Industry of the past 25+ years.
this song and video was a benchmark for teena, im kinda glad that photo didnt appear on her ist album, cause on her second album she looked like a dame, and damn cute too, many blessings sis, and may you rest in heavnly peace, xxx
you can see there was more than professional chemistry between rick and teena.
