  • F1 got more advanced level than Gp2

  • v10 gp2?

  • @ghurghust v8, like f1

  • F1 MUCH FASTER

  • They reckon the Hispania car on some tracks is only just a bit faster than a gp2 car. 6 or 7 seconds off the pace.

  • Michael Schumacher said in testing that the GP2 car was on average about 6 seconds a lap slower in the dry and about 15 seconds slower in the wet, the F1's have an extra 150bhp and 8000rpm over the GP2's not too mention more technological development in the downforce etc.. This seems like abit of an unfair comparison, in reality the GP2 car would be about the equivelent of a straight behind or 2 or 3 bends. Maxing out a GP2 can achieve just about 200mph, and F1 car can reach 220mph.

  • the tyres are different... no comparison

  • @301001082 why not? At the time the Toro Rosso was a lower tier F1 car running on grooved tires and still outclassed the GP2 car with slicks, which are ALWAYS better. The comparison is evident. Put the F1 car on slicks and it would have really been ugly.

  • @ursavostock yeah, that's why not..

  • @301001082 Then why not say the engines are different, or the hp, or the weight, or the ecu, or the technology, or the driver or whatever?

It's the F1 package vs the GP 2 package, tires and all.

  • @ursavostock

compare it with a ferrari on slicks and it would have been brutal.......brutal is worse than ugly, right?

  • @jndillaha Ugly...brutal...pick your favorite adjective....but yes.

  • @ursavostock But to all those who trash on the GP 2 cars lets not forget they do have about 600 bhp and are significantly lighter than our road cars. A GP2 vs an Enzo or Mercielago would be ugly as well.

  • @ursavostock Agreed. Lets not forget GP2 is the arguably second fastest series after F1. A Lamborghini Murcielago will make a lap around silverstone at 2:08 ... GP2 about 1:28-29 so your right... it wont stand a chance in hell, frankly it wont even stand a chance in hell against a GP3 series car(1:51)

  • since everyone seems to be talking about nascar i will to....... it's shit

  • The GP2 has got a 4 liter V8 in it with 600 BHP, thats why its not THAT far beheind.

  • lol a gp2 car compared to a backmarker in F1, f1 still waaay ahead

  • how long ago was this? Its been a while since F1 was at Imola! I dont think its a 100% fair comparison either since the F1 car has to back off and let faster cars through.

  • @Vtaggar

2006 because thats when toro rosso was introduced.

  • f1;)

  • the blue car is a hipania, a lotus or a virgin?

  • Neither its toro rosso

  • @SuperMofles toro rosso

  • look at gp2 driver, he miss apexes

  • The f1 car wasnt exactly leavin the GP2 car in the dust which was surprising!!!

  • I saw both at silverstone this year, and through the maggots/beckets complex, it was hard to find a difference.

The GP2 is within 10 seconds a lap of F1, which is very impressive.

Something odd to say, but very ture: GP2 cars are the best smelling racing cars in the world.

  • Well gp2 is suppose be the learning class to formula 1. Like moto gp has the 250 class before moto gp. they are still fast and you have to be good.

  • There's only about a 100bhp difference between them, but the overall standard of driving is far, far higher in F1, generally speaking only the very best GP2 drivers get to F1..

  • Well if you realized he wasn't pushing the car.

  • GP2 driver so slow

  • ... because he's driving a gp2 car

  • first time i'm seeing an onboard video where the driver was blue flagged...

  • F1 isn´t riskier than a GP2. You can kill yourself in a racing kart. The F1 car is the safest racing car there is. The difference between a F1 car and any other racing car is technology. A F1 is the most advanced racing car in the world. The thing is that, that difference in seconds, (any difference) between a F1 and any other racing car, seems to be too little for the amount of money it takes to get it.

  • That makes it better for us fans tho as a team spending 10 times as much is less than 2% faster than another team.

  • F! kicks ass!

  • f1 vs gp2? are you kidding me? it really not much a comparison. F1 is for sure a higher level class, not to mention EXPEN$IVE!!

  • it may be vastly more expensive, but the gp2 was only about a couple of tenths behind for most of the lap

  • GP2 cars are some 10 seconds slower around a full lap, in racing terms, that's about 12 years.

  • well i think F1 is the best cause they drive allot faster in allot longer time and they take more risks

  • the fact that in f1 they waste so much money, is key, which is why i prefer gp2 as it costs around 1/100th of the price of a f1 team to set up etc, so in the current economic problem it will have to be gp2 the way forwad

  • F1 is more risky and faster,.6 second and more.Loock at gp2 in Monza.Only abou33 laps on the same track loool. And F1 is more interesting.

  • F1 is good, but GP2 drivers tend to take a lot more risks. That's what makes it exciting.

  • Good comparison. It shows the difference between F1 and GP2 nicely, and is flattering for both. From F1s perspective, their cars have about 2 seconds a lap on the GP2 cars. Which, in F1 terms is an eternity!

Having said that, considering GP2 cars are standardized and don't have the million of pounds worth of R&D, they arn't as much slower as I was expecting them to be. It demonstrates well that whilst it may not be as quick as F1, GP2 drivers still need immense skill.

  • still the drivers have to pay about 1,6 million euro per season to drive this..

  • thats obviously for a race seat. cant be superlicense 1 f1 is more cheaper than that 2 are the license fees standardised as well?

  • now in 2009 the f1 will drive on sliks tyre like this gp2 does then it should be eaven faster and yes the gp is on its limits here..

  • The GP2 cars are fast, but F1 cars are still the quickest around any track. Performance-wise, yes F1 cars have the edge but they're actually so much faster than you'd expect. They're faster around 10s a lap, & i must say that F1 we're seeing in the vid is just cruising while that GP2 is on its limits.

  • F1 and GP2 series don't compete with each other. GP2 was the brain child of Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore after F2 dissolved. It was designed to be the perfect F1 feeder comp thats why it follows most F1 GPs around the world.

  • Seems like the only advantage the F1 car has over the GP2 is Horsepower as the GP2 was able to match cornering speeds but gets left on the straightaway.

  • You got a thumbs down from me solely because of your atrocious spelling.

  • Addition: 2008 GP2 car is new. It was reported it's about 1-2 second(s) faster than the old one. Which seems to be correct (Silverstone time).

But it's still childish to bash GP2 for being "slower than F1". It's supposed to be slower! And it's single make series which is obviously big factor.

  • Spa 2007: GP2 - 1:56.885 / F1 - 1:45.070 (Q2)

    Monza 2007: GP2 - 1:30.546 / F1 - 1:21.356(Q2)

    Silverstone 2007: GP2 - 1:28.043 / F1 - 1:19.152 (Q2)

    Silverstone 2008: GP2 - 1:26.912 / F1 - 1:19.537 (Q2)

    Magny-Cours 2008: GP2 - 1:22.250 / F1 - 1:15.024 (Q1)

    Barcelona 2008: GP2 - 1:27.547 / F1 - 1:20.584 (Q2)

    End of story.

  • dude the f1 is in a in or out lap cant you see how easily he gets overtaken

  • GP2 is a great series but it will never be on the same performance scale as F1. F1 have more power (700+ vs 600bhp, are lighter (600kg vs 688kg) & generate more grip (2x down force) & are not as development restricted as a 1 make series. The video clearly shows the F1 was on an a slow or outlap & it was still moving ahead of the GP2 car. In full swing the F1 car would have easily been much further ahead than it already was! & back to full slicks next year, they are set to become even faster!.

  • No it won't Ecclestone and Braitore will never let it get faster then F1. They invented it so be the feeder comp.

  • no but F1 is getting so restricted these days, it makes you think how long will it be before the 1990 cars overtake them on speed terms.

  • my friend you have a point, but only when ot comes 2 restricting f1 cars on speed and top speed and handling, this yr dey got rid of traction control, and its made the sport a bit more enjoyable especially in the rain and btw do u know were i can go 2 get a glimpse of what da cars might look like in 2009, i herd ders gunna b a big aerodynamic change 2 da car

  • @StoodStill GP2 obviously wont get faster than F1, its purpose is to be a feeder series to F1

  • f1 is alot more cooler than gp2 ha

  • gp2 races is more exiting then formula 1 races

  • yes, because all teams have the same chassis and same engine so the only difference is how the teams sets the cars up and driver's skill

  • I'm an American. I have a WRX STi. I LOVE (watching) Rally racing. This is only my opinion: I think WRC drivers are the best on the planet. (Don't dispute that, I made it clear that it's only my opinion). I don't know anyone that likes nascar, but I know a lot of people that like F1 and Rally. But most of my friends watch the world cup, not the super-bowl, so maybe we are the minority. But nascar? Who wants to see a bunch of rednecks drive in a circle for six hours? I don't get it. I never did.

  • @hakkujin Hi from Greece. Have you ever been in a rally race yet?

  • @hakkujin I totally agree with you! Kimi Haikonnen was F1 world Champion and could not even get in the grid on WRC, the sucessfull Indy drivers were a shame in the F1. WRC is the real essence of driving, is where drivers are on their limits.

There's no doubt that on WRC, drivers makes more differences than in any other car competitions

  • @pauloelele First of all it's Raikkonen, not Haikonnen. If you're going to insult someone at least spell their name correctly.

Juan Pablo Montoya won the Indy 500. Also went on the win many races, including Monaco and Spa, in F1. Not all good drivers get an equal shot in F1.

Now go look up the following video showing a multiple rally champion shunting a Renault F1 car while simply trying to drive straight:

Renault F1 R-28 vs. Ford GT40 SHUNTED!! Renault Roadshow Dubai (Dubai Autodrome)

  • Now I'm not bashing rally drivers. What they do is really hard and takes a lot of skill. But you're comparing apples to oranges. F1 and rally are two totally different sports. Few drivers in history have been able to transition to another style of racing and win. Mario Andretti was one. F1 WDC, Indy car champion and Indy 500 winner, and NASCAR cup champion.

  • @ursavostock I've gone to far on my comparisons with WRC x F1 x Indy. My intension was to scale all of this .You were very well using M. Andretti as example and also I'd include J. Villenueve, he wasn't great but was a Champion in both.

Analyzing very well, the score is 2x2 'cause only Mansell and Fittipaldi became Champions doing the opposite. My impression is because since 90's, I could see F1 drivers doing the transaction better than the Indy.

Obs: I usually mix Hakkinen with Raikkonen. LOL

  • The GP2 is better they call it on board in the drivers view but in GP2 it is actually the drivers view while in F1 it shows their helmet.

  • is an f2 car faster than a renault world series car?

  • I'm sorry I don't know

  • NASCAR Sucks Pigs Ass!!

  • everybody knows that except for some southern trailer trash and hillbillies

the real reason they watch Nascar is not because of the racing but because there are lots of crashes and they love to see drivers and cars getting damaged

  • ha are u bein serious ????? id love to see a NASCAR doin anything but turn a 45degree cornor. its so boring and them cars are so shit

  • Fuck NASCAR...

  • lol

  • a nascar wouldn't be able to turn :d afther all it's american, americans don't do turns,

and in a straight line, the f1 car would leave the nascar car in his dust

  • @hacimed obviously not, first of all the just are not as good and they way like 3 tones more than an f1 car

  • Very nice video man.

Todays F1 are really shit things.

    There are only for advertazing..

If u return few years ago u will remember slil tires, NO TC or any other fuckin shit, turbos, man there was that time where formulas where fuckin rockets!

Today there are built this way that my granma can drive.

    Whats this shit?

    2400 ccs? Man its saaaad.

Formula is dead! There is only for publicity!!!

  • Were is your justication for the fact that F1cars are easier to use? Yes they may have anti-stall, fully electronic this and that but why does it make them easier to drive?Think about it for a sec, with all the tec going on in the cars and the crazy cornering speeds they achieve do you think driving for 70+ laps 4 days in a row pulling at least 3G on most corners on most circuits is easy?

    I dont, its fuckin mental.

  • Anyone who can actually get something from these cars is pretty herculian if you ask me.

Granted turbo cars were beasts no doubt however saying that modern F1 cars are dull is a tad misguided if you ask me.

  • What I want to say and stress is that in older times formula 1 had as epicentre the increase of speed only!

That is to say the exclusive improvement in time and in the rounds of a cirquit.

What we see today is a continuous demotion in the speed and set up fights (and as a more recent example I will report why Hamilton did not take the championship although I am fan of Raikonen).

  • The all game is henceforth played in tileroasejs our and NO in the DANCE FLOOR!!

It is a game of PUBLICITY and only unfortunately.

The unique aim of current Formula 1 is the spectacle.

And spectacle means small gaps between the teams -- that is to say reduction of speed.

Sorry but that's not what I want.

With a very few words in which many people agree - the all magic that the old Formula 1 had is lost!

  • Are you crazy? Old Formula 1 used to have close competition. It was in the late 90's and 2000's that this began to change and it came to the point that one team was able to dominate the rest for 5 consecutive seasons. What we will see in 2009 with less aero (like in the old days) and slick tyres is way closer to the old days than it was before. Besides I remind you that the laptimes of today are way faster than the old ones.

  • This year the TC is also illegal.

I'm going to watch the races because of that.

  • I think your missing the piont F1 has always been about the spectacle. Its the pinnicle of Motorsport the highest acheivment in engine and aero design at the time it's only natural that things move forward its called progress. Unfortunatly this can sometimes be detrimental to the racing. If you want something similar to old F1 then perhaps A1 is more intune with your desires.

  • i wish they'd bring back the 3 litre v10 engines they had. Those f1 cars had almost 1000 bhp.

  • im glad f1 has no more traction control, i just wish theyd get rid of the engine freeze and wish ferrari would have their v12 back,

  • that's not that bad for a gp2 car, considering it has less engine power, less aero development, a less efficient gearbox and much less electronic development than a F1 car..

despite the toro rosso being on a slowing down lap it's a nice comparision...

  • whats the difference between GP2 and F1.

  • gp2 is slower...

  • and it costs 400 million less...which makes F1's power to spending ratio really pathetic!!

  • IMO GP2 is way much more fun and exiting, not only to drive but to watch.

  • DAMMMMM NOOOBS

He is on a slowing down lap SHITTTT

  • what the fuck...the f1 driver is letting drivers pass by him. He is on a slow lap, not pushing at all

  • For F1 must to be mclaren, ferrari, bmw... not toro rosso with scott speed :)

  • f1 is wey betta dif. is f1 is where all the pro's are and gp2 is where the young new talent is.

  • Love how casually the F1 driver (Liuzzi?) glances backwards at silly miles per hour. Not too much difference between the Gp2 and F1. Having seen them at Silverstone you can tell the difference though.

  • that is scott

  • liuzzi

  • Very interesting comparison there, there's not much between the cars at all is there?

  • I prefer watching GP2 more than F1 to be honest with you all cause there is more overtaking than there is in F1. Every time I go to Silverstone. Since GP2 first started I enjoyed same with this year. GP2 rocks.

  • its not just cars that are different. GP2 drivers are inexperienced thus they make more mistakes. in F1 move to v8's was a big mistake. with long v10 engine the car was a bit rear weighted. if you lost the rear grip on corner the car killed you instantly. now add 150hp to that.. v8 F1's are perfect 50/50 weight distribution and handle like slead on rails plus you have way less power and torque.

  • Thats a bad comparison. The F1 driver, who I think is Liuzzi, is coasting, not pushing, a lot like a parade lap. He let drivers by him. The GP2 driver is pushing his car to maximum. If Michael Schumacher was in his 248 and pushing, it would be way different. The StR01 wasn't a very fast car to start with.

  • F1 pilot slow

  • GP2 are fast and F1 is mind-blowing when it comes to handling ? prove.

i guess that's why F1 cars made a lap like 10 seconds faster. yes, your comment makes (no) sense.

  • 1. The torro rosso was an out lap.

    2. Scott speed is a shit driver.

    3. GP2 have slicks. If GP2 had the same tyres as f1 then you would actually see the difference.

    4. That GP2 frame looks as though it has been sped up because at parts it blurs and stutters.

  • I agree with no.4, it's dodge...

  • the torro rosso is clearly on an out lap, there is no way that was a flying lap,and are you insane slashfan the bottom one is clearly a gp2, even if you cant tell by the thinner front end and more steering input from the driver, there alos is a tell tale sign from the tires, gp2 has slicks, F1s arent allowed, they have to have atleast four lines through them. and if all that isnt enough for you to see that its a gp2, look at the bottom of the screen man, theres a gp2 logo, and gp2 telemetry

  • The Toro Rosso isn't even on a fast lap. You bloody wankers should start reading something on performance, aerodynamics, etc before starting to wank all over youtube with your halfbred comparisons between two completely different worlds.

  • GP2 cars are fast, but F1s are mind-boggling when it comes to handling, cornering speed and yes...top speed. F1 is all about the sheer power of an agile, mean, lean mean machine with a weight/power ratio that could make anything in the world blush and the technique of the driver behind the wheel. Not to mention it has got a Genvelope that could blow your inbred brains right out of your ears...Worthless video!

  • and scott speed is shit

  • Muy buena comparación, aunque el toro rosso abartó la vuelta... no hay comparación.

  • The torro rosso wasn't going 100%, i guess it was the round after the qualifying round or something

  • amazing i love the on board cam F1

  • the torro rosso issen't going on full speed.

f1 is way better than gp2

  • why dipshit?

because f1 cars are a few seconds faster? which by the way everybody allready knows.

  • Thats what he meant you fuckin idiot, he means f1 cars are faster.

  • I watched The GP2 and F1 for a few times at Hockenheim and Nürburgring.

I really like the GP2 much better, because you can see the drivers work. No traction control...nothing.

YOu can see them drift around corners....

Btw the sound of a GP2 car is much better than the V8 F1 engine...

the V10 was great, but V8...damn...gayness...^^

  • Yes, the balls have indeed been sliced off of Formula One as of late.

But remember, no traction control next year.

  • and no lunch control !

  • lol lunch control.. they don't have control of their food. ;)

  • ye cnt wat 2 see wot will appen with dat

  • your seriously comparing gp2 to f1 in terms of sound, nothing comes close to the deatherning howl the f1 cars produce, an f1 car can drown out a gp2 car from over a mile away!

  • I was at monza last year and the GP2 cars were about 10-12 seconds slower/lap compared to F1.. but that's monza, it's probably very diffrent from track to track.

  • I don't think this video is all about the speed difference. Look at the steering input, with the GP2 car it's so much more "alive" than the F1, which is what makes it more interetsing IMO, seeing the driver put more effort it, making the car look harder to drive.

  • thats an F1 car, on a coasting lap, with cold tyres.

  • And not the fastest F1 car either...

  • "neither on those cars is a GP2 car, the GP2 cars have about 500hp, the top one is a torro rosso, the bottom one is a red bull. repeat both F1 cars"

Bottom is GP2. Look at the tires: Slicks. F1 haven't used slicks for nearly 10 years

  • 1. bottom is a gp2 car, no question

    2. slicks were eliminated 6 years ago.

  • I think some retards coment on videos like this without doing there research scoobydawg04. The bottom car is definetly 100% a GP2 car

  • and for the guy who things the bottom is not GP2...the logo appears at the start. Arden was sponsored by redbull..and the name graphic is kovalinen i think...plus note hand placement differs in a gp2 car...

  • I think the graphic said Lapierre or something like that.

  • well if its scott speed from the year before in the gp2..he was with arden...with kovalinen

  • obviously a 500hp car isnt equal to an 800+ hp car. The torro rosso is coasting half the lap anyway

  • In fairness this ain't the best F1 car by far. Get a McLaren on there. But on the other hand, also in complete fairness, GP2 kicks F1 arse for race excitement. I watch both with a passion, and go Conway-Supernova '07..

  • id be happy to stay in gp2 its bassically the same!

  • You don't get payed, it isn't the same, and you have to fork out 1 million a year to stay in the top teams.

  • It's an Arden

  • nvm, i might be wrong srry.

  • neither on those cars is a GP2 car, the GP2 cars have about 500hp, the top one is a torro rosso, the bottom one is a red bull. repeat both F1 cars.

  • botom one is an Arden car

  • dumbass just shut up if u dont know the diff btw f1 and gp2

  • You, sir, are a dumbass. It's a GP2 car. Have you really never seen a GP2 car? skyhighatrist is right, its a red bull backed Arden car.

  • i agree with this last comment

  • this is bull

  • The Toro Rosso was not pushing very hard, you see..he even slow down at the latter part...a not valid comparison. An F1 car at imola is about 7-8 seconds faster than a GP2 car...the slowest f1 car is still way faster than a GP2 car.

  • Not exactly a great comparison, the Toro Rosso is one of the slowest F1 cars on the grid. Put a Ferrari, Renault, McLaren or Honda in there and then lets see.

Bear in mind that the STR's were at least a couple of seconds off the fastest time at Imola this year.

  • The GP2 cars also have slicks, Ferrari tested those same tyres on one of their cars a ways back and they went instantly 2 secs a lap faster than with their normal grooved tyres.

The STR is also lifting to let people through a bit.

  • amazing comparo...first line gp2 are as fast as midback f1s...as you can see here

  • I'm thinking the GP2 footage is sped up because there is no way that a GP2 would be as fast on the straights as an F1 car.

  • no men, its real speed, no fastforward..jeje toro rossos are slow....dont think gp1 are slow , they have around 750hp..so the difference is like 150-200, and about the weight they are the same..what i think is that perhaps aerodynamics in f1 have bigger downforce so they slow the car more at high end...dont u think?

  • i can see that the formula one car is getting further and further ahead but you'll notice it slows down a couple of times toward the end to let a couple of cars lap it, so thats why the gp2 car catches up at the end
