  • Fuck tinky winky

  • I AM A MAN YOU KNOW?

  • I love it how he randomly has a cracker at the end and looks like he's holding it as a weapon again Terri.

  • Malcolm maybe the most vile person on Earth but in this scene it shows there is a good side in him as to how he treats Glenn decently for a change.

  • his breakdown was so realistic... an old man losing it completely. i dont think it was meant to make people laugh, and i actuallly felt really bad for the guy. He is a man, you know!!! ^^

  • I always used to wonder if I was the only person who found this just as heartbreaking as it is funny. But apparently I'm not.

  • Best part is Malcom's sympathy for Glenn at the end of the bit. "I need a man, and you're a man, come'on!" - Also, this whole English people are the only ones to find this shit funny debate is absurd. Grow up. Get off your little Island for once and you'll see that the MAJORITY of the world has a similar sense of what is, or isn't funny. Intellect is the division of those parameters, not race of geographical location....So take your teacup full of sperm and get the fuck out!

  • You dont know whether to laugh or cry.......it's brilliant.

  • After Glens speech I just love the look Malcolm gives when he turns his head after watching somebody in his team lose his mind, he's totally like "FML". He does a lot of that.

  • love the way malclms body language is like 'oh christ another one.. never a pretty sight... but it has to happen'

  • @BodomChildBreeder I've always thought the reason Malcolm shows so much humanity here is because in this episode he finds himself out of the loop too.

  • You can see Ollie sniggering behind the printer!

  • I don't know how these actors managed to maintain their composure during this take. The two guys looked about ready to lose it on the "tinky-winky" line and the blonde girl at the desk did a double take on "up the ass with Ho Chi Minh".

  • One sadly mistaken person doesn't know about Hitler.

  • TINKY WINKY!!!!!

  • you're like a spare...prick

  • you know, if this performance were made in America, it would have been one of the memorable moments on tv and it would have given james smith a form of recognition for his acting. maybe i'm overreacting, but there really are a lot of brilliant actors in the uk--one could at least award them with an ensemble award. But that's also the great thing about them: they do not need some award to make you realize that they are doing a great job. they just do. :)

  • @morrisoniice I totally agree. James Smith is often overlooked because of Peter Capaldi's undeniably brilliant pyrotechniques. But he's one of those rock solid actors, without whom the work of Capaldi or Rebecca Front would mean absolutely nothing.

  • "You're on the last chopper out of Saigon, I'm having it up the arse with Ho Chi Minh!"

    Excellent quote.

  • If TheElCabronsito comments on this, I'm going to take a dump on his mother's chest, and then post a video of it so he can watch.

  • This is actually very sad :/ I didn't feel anything much for Glen till I saw him like this.

  • 1:12 he's irrelevant?

I'm Shit and in Deep SHIT! only because I was naive, considerate/generous, Lonely , etc and inLUV!

  • Im not sure whether the breakdown is intended to be humorous. Rather, it illustrates Glen's character and position in politics. He represents the 'old', being slowly replaced by the new. Luckily for him he has Huw, and Ollie has Ben......

  • @Gavin756 I think it's both sad and humorous; that's exactly why it's a great scene.

  • @TulseLuper True, Malcom's reaction is brilliant

  • Comment removed

  • "You're on the last chopper out of Saigon and I'm having it up the ass with Ho Chi Minh!" Jesus, that is fucking brilliant!

  • possibly has one of Malcolm's nicer side moments..."i need a man...and your a man,c'mon".........the hole scene is amazing...hats off to Glen.

  • @ady24

I think that's the most touching part of the whole show thus far.

  • Mere mortal words cannot quite express how brilliant this is... And the idea that anyone can fail to see how brilliant it is boggles me. Thanks for posting this gem :D

  • The plant and desk whacking scenes are WAY better than Cleese and his car.

  • Fucking superb acting xD

  • "I know, I know"

  • what do you know about hitler ? well he had a mustache and he lived over their! lol

  • did i miss a meeting or something? because i would like to know ''since when did this become funny?''. i agree it is satirical, however it is not comedy in the slightest. the difference between this and the office is that, the office was a mock documentary, satirical comedy which was actually funny.

  • @ec123456789able

Just because you don't find it funny does not mean it isn't funny.

  • "Well, look, I'd love to stop and chat but I'd rather have type 2 diabetes".

    "Yes, fuck you Malcolm".

    "Happy new year!"

  • Stop talking about politics this programme is a comedy

    FUCK TINKY WINKY

  • I'm irrelevant, I'm irrelevant, I'm irrelevant, I'm irrelevant......

  • I think we all have a piece of this within us. Sometimes a good meltdown or a massive rant gets things off your chest. It reminds me of that scene in thefilm 'Network', 'im mad as hell and im ot going to take this anymore!!' The acting is phenominal and the writing is just superb. If you don't think this is fantastic television then its probably just too high brow for you, fuck off and watch xfactor or something.

  • @soulfunkcity

"I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this any more!"

Less encouraging though is that that wonderful mantra from 'Network' seems to have been hijacked by an aimlessly angry political insurgency, as a strong enough basis for their entire party manifesto. One hopes the electorate will have the good sense to curb their growing success in 2012, because they don't exactly have much of a vision to offer other than rage, stalling tactics and unachievable, paradoxical objectives.

  • @PurushaDesa are you refering to a party in the US? I can understand the anger at current events but it would take a complete overhaul of the system for things to change. I don't believe it matters which party you vote for when the under lying capitalist structure will always favour the rich and hinder the poor. Wall St is out of control, the federal reserve is out of control, the healthcare system is out of control, eduation is out of control. I don't care for appeals to emotion.

  • @soulfunkcity (1/2)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was referring specifically to the Tea Party movement in the US. That entire project is one massive appeal to emotion without any answers. However useless people feel Democrats are, I wouldn't want to equivocate them to this new kind of Republicanism on steroids. Obama overhyped himself - meh, I felt it coming back in 2008. But he spent half his time trying to do things through mild-mannered, centrist bipartisanship, and the GOP still turned crazy.

  • @soulfunkcity (2/2)

He should've told them to fuck off from the outset, put his liberal cards on the table, and spent money growing the public sector, e.g.; a public health option, because digging out of recessions costs money. It's a conservative's nightmare thesis but they didn't elect him - mostly liberals did. I didn't see Bush reaching across the aisle in his tenure. Whatever you thought of him, he got his way. I don't see why the GOP always have to be the only ones with that confidence.

  • @PurushaDesa I see politicians as puppets pandering to the lobbyists to bring about their interests. Everything these days revolves around money but people are far more important! I guess you could call me a liberal. The only thing Bush was good at reaching into was the middle east and of course lining the pockets of his friends on wall st.He certainly got his way but look where that left your country! I'm saddened that people were lied to & were passive for so long, at least they are waking up

  • @soulfunkcity (1/2)

It seems to be a rule of thumb that people on the good side, or less bad one, are gutless, and the people who are outright insane like the Bush Administration are masterful propagandists. Granted they have a massive head start by being able to dupe more anti-intellectuals into voting against their own interests, like poor people voting down better benefits and cheaper healthcare.

  • @soulfunkcity (2/2)

This is not a time to cowtow to the right and yet I also see it happening with the Lib Dems in the coalition at home. Bipartisanship is officially bollocks. Coalition or not - I expect them to fight their corner, yet they seem happy to let the Tories roll over them on so many fundamentals like tuition fees. It's a sad irony that at a time in the West when the the right have dug us into a deep economic and foreign policy hole, the left's response has never been so anaemic.

  • ''you're on the last helicopter out of Saigon, and I'm getting it up the ass from Ho Chi Ming'' Never laughed so much at a tragic scene

  • FUCK TINKY WINKY

  • Love Peter Capaldi's psychobilly hair back in this series

  • Hate all the jump cuts....

  • This scene is absolutely perfect on so many levels - truly emotionally gripping yet I can't help but crack up at the "f!@# Tinky Winky!" and Saigon lines.

  • REALLY hate Terri in this scene. Glen is trying to make her see that she doesn't really know what he's talking about and all she does is dismiss him. Highly annoying. LOVE the acting!!:)

  • you can see olly trying not to laugh when glenn calls him tinky winky

  • 1 person didn't miss the like button, they were just being a prick

  • the one dick head who missed the like

  • Oh fuck off with the "you don't like this humor because you're not British."

I'm American, and I could hardly breathe I was laughing so hard during segments of this show. A more accurate explanation for why people may not find this funny is that they simply lack a sense of humor.

  • @oooooooooorly Even as a Brit that really annoys me aswell. In reality they have an insatiable need for some acceptance from a Yank for whatever reason.

For me The Thick of It is the finest comedy ever written.

  • he's human being remember. not the irrelephant man.

    Genius.

  • you dont get programs like the thick of it or doctor who in america like this :D

  • Hate Ollie here though... -and love Malcolm's other moment, at the end of this, when he tells Ollie "At least he's Hugh's Glenn. All you are is Ben's Glenn!", or something similar. Ha! Take that!

  • @achjetzt yeah I loved the Ben's Glenn line, subtly hilarious

  • A man is not a piece of fruit

  • I don't find it funny. Good acting no doubt, but not funny except for the Vietnam comment

  • @carnagejc Fair play fella. You are entitled to your opinion. Just like a spastic sitting in a packed train is entitled to dribble all over his shirt, pull faces, eat his own snot and mumble "Agghwa wooonka weeh weeh" without being laughed at.

Yep, decent people just look away, wait for their stop and then smile at him, quickly exit the train and think "poor bastard".

You get that a lot, I guess.

  • @carnagejc Are you for real..??? You dont find this particular clip on youtube funny or you've actually watched episodes of this program and still dont find it funny? I think the first one cos I cannot see how anyone could not find this show funny.

Ollie: "No he rather sees himself as a tall, thin Robert Mugabe"

    aaaaahahahaha

  • @ajuong86 just the clip

  • @carnagejc Aaaahh no worries bud. Im actually jealous of you that you haven't watched this show, I wish I could forget it so I could watch it again fresh but thats just impossible. If you end up watching it I promise you that you will not be disappointed .

  • Spectacular.

  • this is one of the only times i can type lmao and really mean it

  • I AM A MAN. YA KNOW. YA KNOW. YA KNOW. im irrelevant

  • 'What do you know about hitler?...he had a moustache and he lived over there' (Over there = Nazi salute) GENIUS!!!!

  • You're on the last chopper out of Saigon, I'm having it up the ass with Ho Chi Minh!

ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • Olly is such a prick!

  • this is just telly at its best, this is the stuff that the bbc need to be producing, not this new cheap shit

  • fuck tinkiwinky

  • 1:28 That bit with the yellow brick road and Hitler... how did he come up with this stuff? Ingenious.

"What do you know about Hitler? Why he has a moustache and he lived over there!" ROFL

  • I'm irrelevant, I'm irrelevant, I'm irrelevant!

HAHAHAHAHA. I spat at the screen it was so funny.

  • Glenn and Ollie really have great chemistry as comedians. Really brought the whole show together.

  • You do know those aren't their real names?

  • @thefltdriver

Yeah I understand how actors work...

  • I literally rolled on the floor laughing and couldn't stop.

    FUCK TINKY WINKY!!!

  • It's really nice when, Tucker says "I need you there i need a man" quite sweet.

  • Can't quite see it here, but the smirk on Chris Addison's face after the "Fuck Tinky Winky!" at 1:23 is priceless.

  • this is so uncomfortable to watch, but still funny somehow. The really patronising woman makes it even worse.

  • LOL. WHAT could be so uncomfortable about it? Let me guess, are you American? Generally speaking, Brits love this kind of comedy. Well, the ones that matter anyway.

  • @thefltdriver no mate i'm not american, i'm from sussex. I probably empathise with the guy a little too much. If you've watched the full episode this is from (one of the specials bewtween series 2 and 3) then you'll see how it builds up to it and how he gets progressivly more marginalised. I still find it funny - the thick of it as a whole is brilliant- this is just one scene where i almost feel a little bit bad for laughing

  • @Janoslechner

Sorry mate. That was an ill-considered reply of mine, especially considering that I haven't seen the full episode. Sorry about the American insult, that was uncalled-for - I took the comment at face value.

  • @thefltdriver haha, don't worry about it. I like the way that suggesting i might be american is an insult! Lol. I recommend watching both the specials if you can, the first in particular (i think it's called rise of the nutters) is ace. More to the point, FUCK TINKY WINKY!

  • "You're on the last chopper out of Saigon, I'm having it up the arse with Ho Chi-Minh!"

    Legendary

  • The humanity, the intelligence behind the writing of the profanity, the performances, the level of satire...what sort of comedy do you like?

  • It's the finest comedy writing imaginable; brutal, searingly intelligent, highly satirical, horribly realistic, and extremely funny. You just put your feet up dear and get back to the Vicar of Dibley. Not everyone is going to 'get' this.

  • @rabbitisrich Vicar of Dibley. Oh. Peter Capaldi was actually in TWO episodes of that. Don't diss Dibley. But obvz....Thick of It is better.

  • @rabbitisrich you can't really compare the thick of it with the vicar of dibley because it has a legacy and an audience of its own. both I find funny and both I love the writing and the cast. it's true, not everyone will get this but I doubt that this only caters to those who are 'educated'. The thick of it deals with the intensity of real life plus that majority of the jokes are analogy to something that exists or caricatures. to be able to congest that in a real life situation: brilliant.

  • @Herman47 You need the homour of an english person to enjoy this. You just go back to your chat shows, this is british comedy, aimed at british people, dont try and poke holes in something that isnt directed at you

  • @AttackOfThePigeons

You are so right! I definitely do not get what is so funny about the "homour," and I need to stick to shows where the brain is actively involved -- shows like "Yes, Minister."

  • @Herman47 okay, "homour" was clearly a typo, dont try and get smart. Secondly im not trying to start an argument here, im just saying that the reason why you do not find this funny is because the British and the Americans have different styles of humour, saying that though, quite a few shows that the Americans produce were influenced by British TV / humour. I know for a fact that Scrubs and The Office were influenced by British comedy

  • @AttackOfThePigeons - I don't mean to sound like a dick head and wade into somebody else's argument, but you do realise that "The Office" as you've seen it is a remake and not just "influenced by"? Right? Based on the UK version? With Ricky Gervais?!

  • @AttackOfThePigeons did you actually say The Office was 'influenced 'by British comedy'? Dear oh dear oh dear

  • @stoprainingonme yes yes i made a mistake, get over it. the office is a REMAKE of Office okay? is that better or would you like to take pride in exploiting a mistake further? because by all means go ahead i really dont mind

  • FUCK TINKY WINKY

  • 'goodbye yellow brick road!' - genius

  • he's a human being. not the ir-elephant man

  • I love Glen, he has a lot of wonderful moments. Although i did laugh my arse off when Malcolm twats him in the face in Series 3.

  • @ch1mpanzeethat Ollie and Glenn's fight from this episode is brilliant as well.

  • Inanucci's "Time trumpet" was great too. If only "Celebrity Rape an Ape" could see the light of day, there would be a huge waiting shit list of contestants.

  • the beauty of this series is how it can combine comedy with fantastic drama, glenn's acting is a masterpiece

  • :(

    Favorite TV moment EVER.

'I need you there. I need a man.'

  • The little smile on his face at the end is fucking brilliant. What a scene.

  • james smith is so so good in this bit. all that fury and every single line is nailed. once again iannucci has the knack of highlighting both the humour and the tragedy of the male mid-life crisis. an utterly brilliant moment in in my opinion the best hour of comedy of the decade.

  • FUCK TINKY WINKY!

  • i was never sure whether to laugh or genuinely feel that his livelihood and everything he worked for had gone down the drain!

  • "No you don't! You're on the last chopper out of Saigon . . . I'm havin' it up the arse with Ho Chi Minh!!"

    Too funny!

  • "I need a man there. And you're a man."

I think that's Malcolm Tucker's single moment of decency and humanity in every appearance he's made.

  • That and his brief moment alone in the Meditation Room in In The Loop. That's what makes him such a great character. He's more than just a barking lunatic.

  • Comment removed

  • too right! hail inanucci - he's a genius

  • @TulseLuper Also, the scene in Series 3 in which he confronts Terri after she tells him he's wrong. A friend and I were watching that last night and we both agreed that it was very human and civil, especially for Malcolm.

Malcolm is such a great character. Oddly enough, I've never actually thought he's that bad a guy. He's supremely ruthless but scenes like these show you that there's more to him than meets the eye. He's even more enjoyable to watch because his other side is only hinted at.

  • @TulseLuper love that conversation he has with Terri in the second(or third) last episode of series 3. "There fucking screaming at each other, YOU GAVE ME THIS DISEASE"!!

  • @TulseLuper Also whenever he's seen with Sam who actually seems to like him.

  • I always thought he was just trying to manipulate Glenn... but still, it made him feel better, obviously, so

  • There was also a very brief moment in the sixth episode of the first series where Malcolm calls Ollie a retard and then clearly remembers that Glenn, who has a son with special needs, is in the room and says 'Sorry, Glenn.'

  • @SimonFoston Um no, he's taking the piss out of him screaming "I'm a man"

  • i must have seen this about 10 times and every time there's something new.

    ....

    "the irrelephant man"

    ..

    so, good.

  • Didn't notice "the irrelephant man" until I read the comments. God, Ollie can be such a heartless twat!

  • Armando Innucci has said that they where originally going to have Ollie filming it on his phone and laughing. But then felt that was a step too far and made Ollie out to be too nasty.

  • That's interesting - which interview was that?

Also important to note then that the writers and thusly the characters in The Thick of It probably have slightly more moral fibre than their real world counterparts, because you can bet your bottom dollar a Mandelson-esque climber absolutely would leak something like that if they felt it would further their career.

  • I AM WILLY LOMAN!!!!

  • Ahaha, 'the irrelephant man' :)

  • hahahaha youre on the last chopper out of saigon, im having it up the arse with ho chi minh, magnificent...

  • James is wonderful in this scene as is Jo Scanlan. Someone gave this one star? Must have been Alistair Campbell

  • "Just answer the phone."

I love how everyone picks on her!

  • "Fuck Tinky Winky! Fuck you, Tinky Winky!"

  • This is amazing acting, it is both dramatic and hilarious simueltaneously.

  • I AM A MAAAAAAN!!!

  • "your on the last chopper out of saigon and i'm having it up the arse with ho chi min!".....what a great line from a fantastic scene...brilliant show.

  • One of the best moments of the show. Cant wait for the next series.

  • Tinky Winky!

  • Whoever gave this one star is an idiot.

  • Or a troll. Who has something against The Thick of It?

Hmmm. TEH INTERWEB is a strange place.

    Anyway, tremendous stuff.
