Death, Cynic and Cannibal Corpse are really the only death metal bands that I prefer. I just think that the vocals all sound the same and generic in most death metal bands. Death is my favorite death metal band because I can understand every word that Chuck says and the melodies in their music match perfectly with the heavy riffs behind them.

@johnbad1000 I always ask myself that question, both of them expressing the progressiveness and technicality of Death but to be fair I prefer Symbolic. It just seems so be more self indulgent through the lyrics and music wise, the guitar work is a lot more powerful and the drumming although slightly less technical sounds better and is more suited to the songs (Zero Tolerance having the most powerful drumming in my opinion)

@johnbad1000 I never saw much point in trying to decide which Death album is best. For me, all the albums from Human onwards were fucking masterpieces in their own right. I'd rather just listen to the music and enjoy the genius and technical prowess of Death than waste time over which was their best effort. They're all brilliant.

To answer your question: All of the 'Symbolic' album, then proceed both to 'The Sound of Perseverance' *and* chronologically backwards from 'Symbolic'. It gets less sophisticated the further back you go, but it's still all badass, IMHO.

@thisusernamenowtaken first song i heard from death was genetic reconstruction(i didn't even know the name of the band then, but i played the hell out of that song) then a couple years later i met someone who introduced me to this album and then i went back to their first albums, then to sound of perseverance and so far all albums kick ass, especially the albums after leprosy where chuck started to influence the bands play style XD

Sepultura: Arise & Beneath are CLASSICS but even those albums contain strange lyrical elements(povery crime corruption from 3rd world. not really fitting in Extreme metal music. but still GREAT compositions!) I havent even followed sepultura since 98 so I dont really wonna know or hear any new shit from them. but late 80s early 90s were great.
