  • It's the ultimate compliment to have the great and legendary Johnny Cash cover your song. U2 were tickled pink, no doubt. Also, on U2's 'Zooropa' album, Johnny makes a guest appearance on a great song called "The Wanderer." Everyone who's never heard it should check it out.

  • requiscat in pace...

  • kippenvel....

  • Great song. he does a good rendition. I this case, I still think U2's is a bit stronger. But if you listen to Cash's Hurt, then you see how Cash could turn a great song and elevate it to the heavens.

  • I LIKE THE SONG, BUT DONT YOU FND PUTTING TOGETHER SLIE SHOWS BORING ? ( Not talking about the cash song i love it) I just see a lot of slide shows, and i just wonder, if people checked out my stuff just for the visual cotent that wasnt mne i would find it boring.

  • sometimes johnny just breaks your heart .

  • I must disagree with a comment here about ruining things by disliking posts here. As a youtube patron I want as many points of view on a post as possible. That is half of what youtube offers, besides the post itself. However I'm not sure if the comment referred to was offensive, which would be a different matter. I do appreciate all these posts, some of which are of great archival interest. However I do wish to hear other voices, provided they are constructively critical, not merely insulting.

  • @AbsyntheLady Woah. That's deep even for people who want to listen to this. And to be fair it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the song. I'd say it's a bit damn easier if you don't rant on YouTube...

  • We love Johnny Cash

  • Johnny Cash just saved my life.

  • I love Hurt by Johnny Cash the most

  • its called One, ..not Won ...for a reason

  • Cant believe I love that bitch after all she have done to me. I realized after listening to this and every word had her in it

  • @Mudoglav lol ME TOO!!!

  • Demasiado arrecho esta version!!

  • beautiful <3

  • Great great music!

  • I agree with Brooks316... Come on people, don't you know that Bjork wrote this?

  • One es hermosa, la voz de jonny es mas que hermosa, este cover es perfecto

  • perfect....johnny cash lendary singer

  • haha, that's what i call the sanctimoneous twat , Boneo

  • Just the perfect combination!!!!!

  • MonkeyHunch, you are truely a glitch in the gene pool! Get your facts right and then get a GED!

  • He's called BONO, you fuckin pleb ends...

  • i suppose bonio did write it ,shame his bands shite and his voice sounds really annoying

  • A U2 song worth listening to aslong as bonio aint singin it, this version is the original really as it is sung and played in all ways better superior and perfect, forgive my english im drunk

  • The 4 people that dislike this, go f.ck yourself!!

  • Blows my mind... Johnny had come here to play jesus.

  • its not about god, religon or the "righteous path" its about understanding youre true nature as a conciouss being and what you can do to make this life a better and more suistanable place for everyone and future generations, only then would you have a chance of understanding the true nature of god, or the supreme conciousness, not abiding to a set of rules or laws to live youre life but truly understanding who YOU are, then there is no need for LAW, peace, saalam, hare krishna, one love

  • anyone?? how old was he in that picture??

  • ONE LOVE SRMARGA

  • I believe this song was written to raise money to research a cure for AIDS, so in that way, it's a very special, healing song written by U2.

  • Just shows you the miracle of this song written by U2.

  • Better then original.

  • @ANDREASDEUTSCH If this cover depends on the original to even exist, can it really be better? or worse?

  • Cash could take any song by any artist and make it into his own. Everything from Beck to Soundgarden to U2. This man was musically a God among men.

  • @nightadder6 he COULD? hell, he did!

  • @nightadder6 Correction....Not God, but god's voice much of his music is an expression of the Christian way of life. Songs about following the righteous path,

  • @Sacorian sure then. You need to watch a few more of his earlier interviews. Certainly in his latter years he did become a bit more spiritual but he wasn't always quite that way. People who try to tie every comment to religion like yourself need to spend a bit more time reading and less time commenting. Gandhi said it best when he replied to a question about Christianity with this: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." /discussion.

  • @nightadder6 I think you mistook what I was saying. My post was no more religious than yours. And I am far from what most people would consider religious myself. Also when I said much of his music is an expression of christianity it was not made in ignorance of his past or of his many, many fine songs that have to do with nothing more noble than say building a cadillac from parts from the factory or 'A boy named Sue' for example... :)

  • One of U2's best songs and one of Johnny's best covers. They were good friends.

  • love both versions but, actually, once a song is released it is public domain, anyone can record it without permission. You have to pay royalties but thats it

  • actually, once a song is released it is public domain, anyone can record it without permission. You have to pay royalties but thats it

  • An amazing Cover, absolute perfection :)

  • I miss Johnny Cash now. May he RIP.

  • It's a beautiful and haunting version from a great icon, thank you U2 for letting record this record.

  • johnny cash is my idol its been a while but it seems like he was making songs just the other day and I still cant believe he's dead

  • salut to Cash

  • i <3 the guitars on this recording

  • Nice cover, U2's is still better though.

  • This isn't bad, but it would probably have been better acapella.

  • how ironic. so far the number of people who dislike this song is 1

  • @clikcerticker I miss what is so ironic about it?

  • @MythificationYT back when i said that. there was only one person who disliked the video. and the title of the one is "One" it doenst work now because there's 3

  • @clikcerticker Ahhh I see :)

  • the point is being missed by all of you.............to try to explain would be futile

  • in his "america" albums most of his songs are covers but for some reason they sound like they're all his.

  • I love Johnny Cash, god rest him, and I also love this song!!

  • i wouldnt have been surprise if he did this when he was in his prime.. man he would have broken bigger walls of life. however it would have neer been that same then if was that way... i m sure Johhny understood that meaning of the song cuz all he does carry the same message in his songs.

  • Brilliant cover by the legend. Almost as good as his cover of "Hurt" by NIN :)

I wish the whole world was in love with this man and others alike instead of being obsessed with the cast members of Glee who literally ruin this and all the songs they cover.

  • Espetacular essa versão dessa musica maravilhosa.

  • .when a legendary band like U2 gives permission to a legendary singer like Johnny cash to sing one of their songs, that's called respect. both are wonderful versions.

  • @cloudchaser07 Johnny Cash is legendary. Not U2.

  • @cloudchaser07 Usually there are negotiations between each musicians representatives (called "mechanical license,") However, in the rare event that negotiations fail, the copyright laws contain provisions for a type of mechanical license called a "compulsory license, which, in effect, give anyone the right to record any song he or she wants to, as long as notice is given to the song's copyright owners within 30 days after the recording is made and before it is distributed. No permission required

  • @cloudchaser07 true, both versions are flawlessly performed-it`s just a matter of different styles

  • eh, i feel the original has is sung with more passion. prefer the original. this is a good cover though.

  • Who says country music can't be cool ......this absolutely drips 'class'

  • u2 should do a johnny cash song now

  • @starfoxjr6976711 hmm they would fuck it up

  • feel like crying every time I hear it ...

  • Johnny Cash KING OF THE WORLD

    R.I.P my friend

  • It dosent matter if the original is performed by U2 or Johnny Cash what realy matter is that the Johnny Cash version is VERY much better than the other.

  • @Meninivalle you're soooo funny. LOL

  • @Meninivalle

Naah, great songs like this can me as amazing as it is in cover but the original's always the original.

  • @Meninivalle This is good, but not to the extent of outdoing the original; I consider that Johnny has outdone "Hurt", which was originally recorded by Nine-inch-nails, his version of Hurt gives me goosebumps, man!!

  • @Meninivalle how could you say that, u2 has so much more soul and passion, this is just talking, its not actually singing

  • @Meninivalle false

  • I LOVE JOHNNY CASH!

  • The man ! the man in black

  • Sorry to break it to you folks: This is a cover of U2's song One, not the opposite.

  • @Shewyeen exactly.

my favourite U2 version of One is Berlin version (Anton Corbjin version) :P but i can't find the video on youtube anymore.

  • @Shewyeen you don't get it ... U2 made the choice not you your opinion is important ....to you only!

  • @JOHNNYBFITT Next time make sure you understand a comment before commenting on it.

  • @Shewyeen i'm not surprised that they don't know this, The folly of youth, we think that nothing existed before we were born, everything was created just for us.

  • @Shewyeen no kidding, never would have know [sarcasm off]

  • u2 + Johnny Cash = AWESOMENESS....

I died a little too, but only because my head exploded from the sheer awesomeness.

  • I love it, this video is wonderful hey thank u so much lilly :):):) <3<3<3 !!!

  • finally giving this u2 epic thing some much needed dignity.

    johnny cash rules

  • She is actually right. It is a U2 song, they released it in 1992. But I have to admit, that I couldn't believe it myself. Go ahead and google it, if you don't believe.

It doesn't make Johnny Cash's version less beautiful, thought.
