  • The Heinrich Gill violins seems to be incredible. I like the clear, rich and warm sounds I hear .

I'd like to know how the Gill violas sound.

  • @TheLimiter

I'd like to hear the Gill violas too. The Australian wholesaler of Gill

only import the cheapest model, which I haven't checked out yet. I'll do a

video if I think it's good. I've got some ridiculously nice old violas in shop at the

moment, so if you're looking, let me know. :) rich

  • By spirit varnish I assume you mean French Polish Shellac? It is super thin when done right, and allows the top and back to vibrate. I like the Gill. I would love to make another violin from some woods I have had around for a while now. Guitars are my specialty, but after 36 years (that can't be right) I am still learning, and hope I never stop. The collectibility of some vintage guitars makes my blood pressure go way up when setting up a $140K guitar that has not seen daylight in decades. FUN.

  • My next violin is coming from you it shows when you care about the instruments your selling

  • @0unhallowed0

I somehow missed your comment until now. Thanx very much. I feel the same way

when I go shopping for anything. I look for specialist shops where the people know

    and love their products. -Richard-

  • I wish I had a spare $5000 to get a new one........lol. I might have to settle for something cheaper. But both are lovely to hear. I think I favour the Raggetti.

  • To my ears the Gill was prettier in tone but comparing violins is like wine testing everyone has different taste. Both are beautiful, I wonder how they will sound after being played for 50 yrs...

  • The Gill sounds like it's crying, I love it.

  • The Raggetti is clearly better, the sound is more balanced & powerful.

  • Clearly you've never gone shopping for a violin before. Though he is a luther, we can't assume he's a master violinist. When you go to buy a violin it's always best to slip a violinst 40 bucks to come along with you so you know the instrument is being playing to it's fullest ability. Also you have to keep in mind that every person feels comfortable with different instruments for different reasons. Anyways any tallented violinists doesnt NEED to rely on having a high quality fiddle.

  • If you're going to buy a 4-5k violin, why do you need to slip a violinist 40 bucks. You should be pretty durn good already if you're looking to purchase something that expensive, unless you're just a collector, then the only thing that matters is the name.

  • Nice Violins, Good review
