lyrics makes me think of the whole of the conglomerate "Christian" churches who is represented by a mother trying to be holy, fullest of purity but..vacuous,empty facade of smooth lies
The instrumentation reminds me of a piece called Mr Handangote from the soundtrack of the really special adventure game Machinarium. It's a really extraordinary piece of music for an ordinary ambiance track in a relatively obscure game.
I´m so impressed and inspired of your music! You are a very talent musican and you make the music with your heart...and soul! You make me more creative too!
Actually ..when I´m making paintings...your music inspire me to make it better))
This album is out of Time, there's something it comes out difficult to explain, a kind of harmony, something pure, feeling like flying, more efficient than whatever drugs! Run to buy it, contains a CD and a DVD.
there's something about this song that's so potent and emotive. i think that everyone should have the privelage of listening to this song at least once before they die.
It's interesting, how one can discover, or rediscover, one's self in music. Steven Wilson is a true talent and musical genious. His music has always been able to connect with me on the deepest level. It's thought-provoking, and REAL in every sense of the word.
Every project that he's been involved in has been jaw-dropping. I can't possibly express how incredible this man's work is. Music is an art, and this is more evident in Steven Wilson's music than anywhere else I've heard. Thankyou Steven
@cocozaococozao123 lol, if you have the internet you don't need any software to download music. Just go to one of the millions of file sharing websites, but you shouldn't steal this kind of amazing music!
I just want to say that, I have ordered this record and will never ever pirate music ever again(also since I want to be an Audio Engineer)... Musicians that are as good as Steven Wilson deserve what they earn and I will buy every single band or artist's(that I know or discover)records in honor of them.
I would too, but I could never afford the amount of records that would include plus the immense amounts I need for instruments, computer, camera a.s.o...
But in the future I will probably start buying them as I grow up, move out and start to make a living...
But I would probably buy all Porcupine Tree, Opeth and Steven Wilson albums first of all :P
@Redd0346 I actually bought this album knowing Steven Wilson (albeit, not that well) and when I saw his solo album from just browsing records, I was interested (plus I never owned a copy of his music) to see how it was. One of the best purchases i have ever made. This album is easily in my top 10-20 best solo albums I've ever heard. The minimalist, shoe-gaze approach with most of the tracks is just simply bliss. Knowing me, I probably would have dl'ed it first but I'm glad I got a hard copy.
@Redd0346 I definitely own an original copy. I am on a mission of finding every Porcupine Tree album from a record store instead of ordering them online.
@Redd0346 don't mean to argue or anything, but musicians get much, much more profit from shows and merch, record companies get most of the profit from record sales, the actual band member(s) get only like 20% or something of every album sold
@Redd0346 And at the same time you're watching a bootleg copy of the song on youtube. Awesome.
The only reason I even know that Steve Wilson exists is youtube videos like this one; more specifically, videos accompanying porcupine tree songs.
If you love the artist, see them live, and spread the word about them. Some labels/artists are starting to figure this out, but what was once considered piracy is a good mechanism for that.
@Redd0346 I agree that buying a record is great an all, but in reality the best way to support an artist is to see them live and buy merchandise AT the show, as this is how they make most of their money, for the 20$ you spent on a CD in the store, you've made the store owner, the record label, the manufacturer of the cds, the company shipping them money, but very little to the artist themself.
Downloading is not the problem, I download everything, I then go out and buy what I like.
The breathtaking conclusion of the Best Album of the Decade.
You are genius, Steven. It was an honor to shake your hand.
Side Note: The Koto on this track is unbelievable. So full of life. This song makes me feel like I'm flying. So surreal. One of those songs that a song doesn't have to be a complex 20 minute epic to be a masterpiece.
This is every bit as much of a masterpiece as "2112" or "Close to the Edge." Maybe even better.
GOOD song ... the musical part is kind of dark and a little spooky ... and the lyrics strong, sad and concrete , and the pure truth!
Poverty, lack of motivation, and anyway there is faith... .
This happens also here , and everywhere in the poorest communities yes... .
Lyrics show a political facette of Steven's concerns . Not very common in Porcupine Tree lyrics , usually surrealistic and often also psychedelic....! BEAUTIFUL they are too, though! :)
I love Steven Wilson, his music never stops to amaze me. He words are deep, always gets to me. He songs are so depressing but yet it makes me feel so at peace.
What's corny about it? Just look at 90% of the music being created today..now thats corny and crappy...and SW (and all his other projects) are definitely different and much much better than all of that junk...I'm not saying the guy is Jesus, but he's released music under 5 different projects..all falling into different genres..now a solo career..and he's produced records for Opeth (another amazing band) as well as many other bands..the guy is extremely talented and creative..
I am addicted to this song. I can tell 'cause it doesn't feel like a catchy song that stays in your head for a while.. I have this kind of feeling inside that I HAVE to listen to "Insurgentes". It's so simple, yet just breathtakingly beautiful.. a typical Steven Wilson song I guess.
No me había dado cuenta, pero en la imágen de la portada, Steven Wilson está en el Espacio Escultórico de Ciudad Universitaria, en la Ciudad de México.
* * *
I didn't notice, but on the album cover, Steven Wilson is at the Sculpturesque Space at Ciudad Universitaria, in Mexico City.
To me, this is just the most beautiful piece of music ever. As a professional bass player, working with someone as gifted as SW must be incredibly exhilarating.
It would be a dream come true to get to jam with steven, write some songs with him :D Steven revolutionized my musical view when i heard In Absentia for the first time after it was released, i'm still as blown away by it as then, same goes with stupid dream and lightbulb sun! If someone's interested they can check out my acoustic songs, highly inspired by steven.
I feel that alot of SW fans go a bit overboard, like some great injustice has been done to him by mainstream music. I don't think that's true, there's some brilliant pop music out there, it's not all dreadful.
SW is not a god, but he is extremely talented and he does push himself far harder than most musicians do.
And also, this is a FANTASTIC song, with his trademark perfect blend of harmonies towards the end!
To me, Steven Wilson is the John Lennon of the 21st century.
The commercial music industry should be embarassed at the garbage they push as "music" . The mainstream bands have about as much talent and staying power as A Flock of Seagulls
Isnt it so much better that he isnt as mainstream though SW or PT is known more these days then years ago. I think the fact that he never made it to hyper main stream has kept the soul in his music. why do you insist on pushing him mainstream? what difference is it gonna make to you? I mean here YOU are listening to one of the greatest artists out there arent you? are you upset for those who don't know coz its not mainstream? well I am just appreciating SWs music for what it is: TRUE MUSIC!!!
I agree. I quit enjoy that he, or Porcupine Tree, are not mainstream. It's like this little gem that only really awesome people get to know about and all the others that are too absorbed by mainstream media and miss out on it. Let's keep Steven Wilson a best kept secret :P
couldn't agree more with you!! All the bands who went mainstream end up in the palms of greedy people who care little about the music and more about revenue and soon the artists follow the same path and the one thing which gets polluted by this hype is ironically the same thing that made all this greed possible: the music! so let's keep steven wilson our secret and continue to enjoye!! :-)))
I am just upset about the Commercial music industry as a whole. Mainly because they do NOT allow every band a chance to be heard. I love hearing Steven's music, but I feel he should also be rewarded as many other bands, with the recognition they deserve. i feel worst for the young generation who just will never get a chance to hear such quality music, as they only get what is forced upon them. THAT is my problem.
the negative message and lack of creativity is what mainstream is
Definetly my favourite track on the album. Insurgentes is so amazingly loud and noisy and this is a great coda, so calm! Love the harmony in last chorus, so low and warm=) really seems too short but hey, it's 4 minutes - almost twice longer than any Beatles' song)
This is probably my favorite track on the album..I just wished it was a bit longer..maybe a another verse..I just don't want the song to end when I listen to it!! lol
