Nazi party? Let me remind you folks, each time a black or Asian is subjected to some form of being seen different, when you stare through these folks and give them a disdainful look, each time you had laws preventing them from being seated next to you on a bus, or had barred them admission in schools, each time a waiter in a restaurant "forgets" to show them to a table, etc etc etc you planted the roots of Nazism, Ku Klux Clan, colonialism and the myth of racial differences. Small things to big
Vorschlag: Richard Osbornes umfangreiche Karajan-Biografie!
The Grand Old Master - Herbert von Karajan, the last of the German tradition of great orchestra conductors, leading an orchestra of super-players who wouldn't even need a conductor, but on whom he impresses his mark. When I hear them, I forget all about his having been a member of the nazi party: I just listen to the music and I see him again, directing (I did, about 1954).
@Gheorgyi /That Nazi tag is not entirely accurate--like Strauss he had dependents who may have been in danger had he not joined the party (even nominally)---the story is never really quite so simple as people think.
@windstorm1000 Yes - people are rather absolutistic about spouting sentences about others, and condemning them. It would be interesting to see what THEY would do if they found themselves in the same situations. As far as I know, HvK never associated himself with the crimes of nazism. There IS something called "survival".
a great performance of this masterwork by wagner - i'm not familiar with the story but words like drammatic powerful and moving come to mind - thanks zid and karajan/bpo
Can I say I like the camera work? I like the camera work. How can you express your gratitude for music like this. Thank you, Wagner, and the God that created you.

I like to believe that Wagner went through an apotheosis when he wrote this. Simply sublime
