WTF? Doug Aldrich rides a motorbike??? There should be limits to the amount of coolness one man can have. Dude is making me feel really inferior right now!!!
That was very helpful thank you! I now know I can do an oil change on my 2002 XL883 sportster! But, should I still take my 2006 FLSTCI (Heritage Softtail Classic) to the Harley shop like I do ever 2500-3000 miles because don't they change the primary? and what is the primary anyway?
THIS GUY JUST A HARLEY DAVIDSON RIDER AND HE SHOW AND EXPLAIN AS WELL HOW TO CHANGE YOUR OIL BUT THOSE THAT ARE HARLEY DAVIDSON MACHANIC ONLY EXPLAIN IT TO YOU BUT NEVER ACTUALLY DOING IT WHY DA THE ONLY THING MORE I WANTED TOO KNOW WAS THE MODEL MORTOCYCLE HE WAS DOING THE OIL CHANGE ON I GUESS A SOFTTAIL . NOT ALL HD MOTORCYCLE OIL CHANGE THE SAME. WHEN OIL IS THAT DIRTY GOOD PRACTIC TO DRAIN IT RIDE IT FOR A WEEK AND DRAIN IT AGAIN
ALWAYS stick some engine flush in and run the engine then empty it, never put clean oil in a dirty engine, it costs a fiver and makes a huge difference.
This dude awesome. He plays on some of the worlds biggest rock stages and goes home and rides a harley and changes that shit himself. His garage actually looked junky. Normal guy , extrodinary talent.
if you don't know what oil to run, just maybe you aren't really into riding, in that case ride it over the your Local H~D dealer and pay the H D (Hundred Dollars) by the way, use Amsoil 20/50 , your Harley will run 10 to 15 degrees cooler, not rocket science!
He missed a point on oil. 90% of the time oil will look black after a week in a motor. To tell if its bad put some on your finger and it will either be clear so you can see skin or still real dirty then change it.
Also after checking color look under the light or sun for any metal flakes.... could give you a heads up...
reason I say this is because when he got the oil on his hands it really didn't look that bad at all...
Excellent video! Two things worth considering? One, I think it best to pour a couple of ounces of fresh oil into the new filter before attaching it. Also, the dip stick level markings normally aren't placed to read properly if the stick is fully inserted.
Ok, now onto the important stuff....that's really a nice bike you have there!
Cool video, I like that your neighbor was out cutting his grass. Just another guy wrenching on his bike. Umm...you totally ran that stop sign at the end of your street. Thanks for the info, it helps a lot.
this video is the best, i still have my cork on order from harley . i do need more airplane and lawnmower noises in my garage, i actually put all my oil directly into the ocean via small tide pools.
Doug on a motorcycle?! You've got to be kidding! I remember Doug driving around in his litle white CRX... furthermore, seeing Doug getting his hands dirty is so funny... he was always Mr. Clean... wash those hands; always manicure those nails... Doug, I am glad to see you in the spot light my friend... if anyone deserves it it is YOU! ROCK ON!
Dude you need to fill the oil filter with oil about 1/4 of the way otherwise your engine will have no oil for a few seconds and that's shit for the engine!!!
You have an excellent approach. The camera was spot-on and your commentaries while amusing were factual. This was fun/educational to watch and makes this job not so intimidating for the regular Joe. All this changes when the hot lights hit the stage...
Doug, thanks for the video. A few points to ponder, 1) warm the bike first as the oil will flow better. 2) add a few oz of oil to the filter so the engine wont starve at start-up.
pretty amazing..I do not KNOW much bout Harleys..but luv them..found that the way Doug explained it all..so cool. His softspoken laidback ways just rock..anytime.What a cool cool guy..A PLEASURe to know him x
I saw Doug in the German issue of an Easy Rider magazine, so knew he is riding Harleys - but I didn't know he's doing maintainance like oil changes by himself. Cool Video - thanks for posting
