  • Who among today's top recording stars even come close to this?

  • this song (like all of curtis mayfield's music) is deeply political. it's about liberation. it's about getting together, linking arms with others, and standing up for a different world.

  • I was not drawn to this song because of religion... I'm actually an atheist. But I can't deny that the emotion, passion, feeling and beauty of performance is simply incredible. I feel silly listening to this with my friends, because we are a secular group and they judge, but I can't deny the power of raw, human passion that exudes from every second of this song. If all musicians could write and perform with this kind of force, i cant imagine how spoiled we'd be.

  • anyone besides me notice the Air Force guys just kinda hangin out there?

  • If everyone realized they "don't need no ticket", we'd be much better off today. Unfortunately, somehow the Lord has fallen out of fashion, and it's just not PC to talk about Him. Don't you dare run for political office and mention the Lord! Really, people - what on earth has happened in this country?

  • We better get ready - keep your hand in the God's hands.

  • Sang Gurl!!!!!!!!!

  • 28 people weren't ready

  • when u hear those to female sing, dont u ask ur self who is rihanna??!

  • @1016scalez hell no.

  • This is one of the finest video documents on youtube. If nothing else, and there is much to learn here dear friends, then it is for the singing lesson easily given to all the playback driven "talents" of today. The video quality is exceptional. The charisma of the performer is magnetic. The singers are super talents. The band is outstanding.

    Thank you.

  • The "x people [who clicked dislike] are inferior in some way" comments need to stop. they aren't original, nor are they funny anymore, and at worst they are ignorant and intolerant.

Also, I love this song / video

  • So people get ready, there's a train a comin'

You don't need no baggage, you just get on board

All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'

Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

  • He's very high...

  • A performance is a recreation of the event. This is not about covering tunes as much as maintaining a traditions or characteristic of black music...don't get it twisted!

  • 28 people aren't ready

  • maceo parker did this song before rod was around

  • That's funny,lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.

  • They stole that song from Rod Stewart. I'm tired of all these covers.

  • @easyway2001 Curtis Mayfield wrote and performed the song first....I like his version, I like rod stewarts and I like Al Greens....they are different, but they all have soul.....I dont know when this version was recorded, but I bet it predates Stewarts cover by a few years....

  • @easyway2001 Can't believe I'm answering this, am I being dim and you are just joking! Curtis Mayfield aint happy.

  • who's the drummer?

  • can the rev do any wrong the lord says no

  • Oh yes!!!

  • 5*

  • 27 dislikes? Why is there even a thumbs down button for this song? Beautiful and soulful... makes me cry.

  • For whom did Jesus pay? Someone asked me that. For us all, for the sins of the world. "But He was wounded for our transgressions... He was oppressed for our initquities. Upon Him is the chastisement that made us whole, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned every one unto his own way, and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."--Isaiah 53

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    .

  • Damn blacks know how to make music...

  • @pennywise000

    Barely noticed?

  • Ronaldinho on the bass!

  • astrolog skip the god shit its just a great track

  • He needs more chord? With a voice like his you can't help but turn your head and listen.

  • @jlawren2 he actually said " I need more cord," meaning microphone cable, so he couldn't walk any further to other folks in the back of the audience :D

  • Richard dawkins ? Who is that dickhead ...the potent power is here - that can change a egotistical , street thug into a preacher ...and George foreman , etc..what is Richard dawkins changing into ? A richer empty vessel - soulless.

  • The bass player looks like Andre Miller from Portland Trailblazers

  • OK....now this is the ultimate AL GREEN jump off FACEBOOK!....lol.,..Mister Odin approves.,..Harlem WORLD!

  • when you need to feel better, Al Green.

  • the drummer's jherri curl is amazing. love al green.

  • my favorite song

    people get ready

this sept the train is uh coming

    love to the chosen ones

    one love

  • That drummer the greatest drummer of all time.

  • Is this Linda Jones Who was dead in 1972? Thanxs from Brazil, valeu!!!

  • Al Green is smooth, but that Drumer cooler then a mutha fucka....lol

  • @chosin2h The drummer puts those rock drummers to shame. Except for the one who plays with Jeff Beck.

  • @chosin2h Your dirty mouth ruined his great performance!

  • @shabbahbk I apologize didn't mean to offend anyone with my comment, I'm not a disrespectful person at all. So to you and who ever else I offended with this comment I apologize. Now hope you can watch and enjoy the video in peace now!

  • 0:00 REPLAY BUTTON!!

  • It's nice to hear a younger person say they were born in the wrong generation after hearing 'People'. Raw musical talent happens for every generation it's just finding it sometimes that's difficult. Sure most music for play is over produced... good reason to get out and find great live music like this.

Another athiest here testifiying about soul music!!!

  • This is my type of music, a nice mellow vibe as I sit and think about God!!!!

  • A wonderfully soulful gospel tinged performance vintage Al Green

  • and since you're all in a clapping mood, i'd like to introduce you to my band...sexual chocolate. they play so fine don't you agree...? SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!!!!"

  • who's playing drums?

  • Koja faca...hi hi hiiiii!!

  • hi, when was this filmed?

  • @roaringwaterbay i don't know the exact date, this was filmed, but i'm guess the 80s because of the drummer's jerri curl. lol

  • Luv it! Luv it!...They don't get any better than Al...Linda Jones, my gurl...she and Wanda...give the drummer some, my bot got happy and klicked, lol great job....

  • Off The Chain

  • what a voice Al's got.... incredible.

  • how much juice is drippin on that snare drum?

    so good.

  • WOOOO! THANK THE LORD! Get em AL!

  • not my favorite version of this song, but hey it's Al Green, he can sing the phone book and make it great

  • sexual chocolate

  • I was clearly born in the wrong generation. I would kill to see music like this live over any type of music made today. Since digitalisation has taken over the music scene, it's meant that there's less scope for raw musical talent such as legends like Al Green. I'm absolutely gutted, but I'm going to try my best to keep golden music like this alive by any means possible. Peace x

  • That drummer thowin dem curlz, but bruh waz blankin doe..

  • tell'em Rev. Al

  • "We don't need no ticket." "Just thank the Lord." People, this is the soul of the gospel message of grace. Jesus paid the price for us, if we would just accept it with gratitude. "Just get on board." "Just thank the Lord." People forget that gratitude opens the key to many doors, especially with the Lord. "Thank you, Lord, for Your gift of love to us."

  • @astrolog7000 I'm an atheist and I still dig it. It's just good music.

  • @astrolog7000

tell me for whom Jesus paid?? - for jhwh , for devil? for whom?.

  • @astrolog7000 The ticket is a free gift to all that do what Jesus and his disciples did.We just need to follow what they did and what the Bible says to do.What is "LOVE" (Romans 13:10) Love is the fulfilling of the law” (Romans 13:8, 10) So easy so nice just like paradise. Now I'm starting to sound like Edward McGee.

  • @astrolog7000 do you get into heaven now?

  • @astrolog7000 Child please!

  • @astrolog7000 Yes..the choice is ours.....and God inhabits the praise of His people....he makes it so easy for us to get "On Board"......accept HIM for WHO HE IS... ask him to accept us..HE takes over, and does the rest..Oh Glory to HIS name !! Thank you, 7000 !!

  • Faith is the actual hardest part!! This is ridiculous!!

  • why would anybody dislike this? this is pure musical pleasure.

  • @analuvs Because love aint necessarily addictive, never experience it in youth and you hardly gonna find it at 45rpm.

  • @analuvs

I mean, I'm just on a Curtis Mayfield vid before coming here, and same thing. Really is hard to figure who hits "dislike" on something like this.

  • I remember the venues like this in the military with all the soul brothers. It was a mix of everything. Seems like we represented every race on planet earth and we were like brothers. That kind of beauty comes along more than we realise, we just gotta keep our eyes as open as our hearts. That's the power of music. I sure miss those days.
