Maybe the pitman let the halyard go too quickly. They'll blame the foredeck :-).

In any case it's a bigass sail and it's easy to comment from behind the computer if you haven't been on board at the time.

there could have been lots of reasons for the problem: bad crew work, equipment failure, etc., but some bad crewwork seems the most likely. I've heard that this boat

had kite problems more than once during this regatta.
