no u know this guy wasn't just a joe off the street he had construction experience and a lot of tools normal people don't have like a tractor...what would this cost to have built I wonder ?
I think you may have over sold the product:P its a nice product butt, i dont think the average joe have all the skill that, chuck sems to have stored inn his poket:P
Good question! Currently we do not. However if there is anyone seriously interested in doing this project, and can absorb some of the engineering cost we are more than capable of creating such a fixture. Geodesic domes are incredibly strong.
Do you guys make metal bracket system for geodesic construction ? A sturdy hub design is needed in the industry and geodesic buildings seem to be the the popular way to go now days.
He's not just Chuck...He's Super Chuck! Did all that by himself....one thing for sure, he hired the best help one can get because if you want anything done right, you do it yourself!! LOL
Dude, those I beams are insane. They're completely out of proportion to the rest of the structure. Why isn't he using more of the same system for the bents?
I call Malarkey! I am a building contractor and know that Chuck could not do all that on his own and if he did do it on his own, it would NOT have been cost effective. But, if he did it on his own, which is highly unlikely, im sure he lost money when time is factored in. Im sure he hired some mexicans to help but y'all did not want to show that.
Do you folks see what using trusses and stick-building will do to your mind.
This is called Post and Beam construction and most builders do not even understand it. Builders who put up expensive Timber Frame houses, and the Amish understand the simplicity and strength of timbers.
@NoMAIG "time factored in" is something contractors throw around a lot, and it's not always applicable. I am a single man, who enjoys working on projects like this, and I have a regular 8-4 job. My time outside that job doesn't cost me anything. Whether you want to say my time is "priceless" or "worthless", it means the same thing. If I saved 30% by picking at such a project all summer, it's worth it to me. That's money in my pocket for tools to go in this shed.
@NoMAIG I call you a negative person. Chuck looks retired so don't bother factoring for time. Don't think that he can't do that all himself because you can't imagine doing it yourself!
@ontariotimothy Im not a negative person, im a realist. When you factor in risk vs. reward, it makes me wonder. I would not want to build something like this by myself, even though I could. I have heavy equipment and all the tools necessary to complete this type of job. I would not want to risk a beam breaking loose, falling, and killing me. Not worth it to me.
I lost it at the 3:15 with the hand truck thing and also when he had the pieces of wood lifted right into place by the pulley and wench. Stuff like that makes me dislike Chuck because I could never do that.
Good advice! But keep in mind, Lumber Link uses only #1 grade kiln dried timber, LVL's or Glulams for rafters. Posts can be #2 or build-ups, but NO green or treated wood. Socket Systems is establishing wood suppliers, call for prices. Sample Building: 24x24 garage, 4 ft. deep solid wall foundation, 6" slab floor, metal siding and roof, 2 car garage door, 3 windows and a man door, ALL material needed... $6,000. (Less architect and engineering)
this system seems pretty expensive to me 400 to do one gable without buying the wood but does seem like it would be alot easier then making the joints in just wood tho guess ya get what ya pay for ... 2 bad im poor lol
Welcome to the poor club. But you might be surprised. We just priced complete materials for building a 24x24 Gable, no second floor, with a solid wall foundation and slab floor, 1 two car garage door, three windows and 1 man door., metal siding and metal roll roofing, for a 40 psf snow load area. $6,000!!
NO LABOR included. You might need to hire the back hoe, but that's ALL!
6x8 and 6x6 timbers must be #1 construction grade, but everything else was Home Depot
@thouartjohnd . just bought a home and did all the remodeling myself. owe home depot $4,000.00. my advice, talk to contractors they sure told me where to go and buy supplies cheaper than home depot( this was after I'm $15,000.00 in debt.
Advice, DON'T RUSH, SHOP AROUND THEN SHOP AROUND SOME MORE.
Necessity is the mother of invention and Chuck did have clever ideas to keep the manual labor off his back, but this system IS really easy! You can also purchase building plans that show every bolt and nail. (Just like lego's) Call 814-476-1927 for details.
It all depends where you live. Your live and dead loads determine your Bay Spacing. The average is 8 ft. You might need 3 Kits at $350 ea. This system is much more economic for larger buildings.
An average 2 car garage is 24 x 24. The average kit would cost $1,820 delivered. The total average building cost using Lumber Link is $5,760. ($10/ sq. ft.)
If you can't change a faucet, you might not want to try this project.
That looks hard! Wow! Chuck did a lot! Your average "Joe" can't do that..lol. You have to be smart to do that and have a spare $30,000 grand or so laying around. I would go with purchasing a pre-made two floor shed for around $12,000
Too much. I can have 2400 sf with a steelmaster bldg and self installed second floor for half that. Plus, it will have higher snow load and wind load.
