MoNique is not a bitch she is just a real woman! MoNique she spoke her mind she refused to allow the press to run the show. The media were cruel to MoNique she wasn't going to win the Oscar because she didn't campaign like Sandra Bullock did. I thought Bullock was pathetic the way she was trying so hard to kiss the critics asses. MoNique refused to play that game and she won the Oscar! Well done MoNique!
I have to say Mo'Nique speech was good and to the point, now I didn't like the Precious movie and you're right didn't kiss no ass like Bullock did.Them white folks who run the shit will continue to play the skin game over real talent.
mo'nique is so powerful. i mean she is hilarious as all can be, and she is so poweful and deep! if I was that girl who called the numbers, i wouldve let mo'nique done what she needed to do,
MoNique had to take charge of the press conference because she wanted to answer the questions from journalists that supported her from the beginning. Notice, the meaningful questions from the black journalists. MoNique was just being assertive she wanted to make sure she made the most of her opportunity to speak her mind.
Mo'Nique is not copying Hattie but paying tribute. She raises awareness for history. It was her interview and she took charge of it because it is one of the rare moments where America cannot ignore Black women. I am deeply impressed by her intellect and how humble she is.
@Psychicpimp everything U said izZz exactly right!!!!! they can't ignore her and all eyezZz are on her, so y not make a statement!!!! I wish I alwayzZz moved wit this confidence, control and purpose, if she hadn't the whole meaning would have went to waste, Nd she would have wasted HER moment, the only moment lyke this she may ever have...
It is true Halle Berry is the only black woman that has won the best actress Oscar. I am glad someone else pointed this out. I think the reason why is there is a paucity of leading lady roles for black women. I have a serious problem with this. I would LOVE to see more movies with black women in leading roles!
What Mo'Nique did in the movie was outstanding and she surely deserved the award. However, I really didn't like the part in this press conference when she was taking control to direct the traffic. You won the Oscar because we respected your performance. You need to show some class to the lady who was doing her work. I hope she apologized to that staff afterward.
They were picking only white journalists to ask her questions. She could have been gentler, but she needed some questions from people who knew her and who have been following her all her career. Look how meaningful the questions were from the black journalists. They asked her about the political meaning behind her dress (which needed to come to light).
@eatlikehobbit I understand her but they can't ignore her and all eyezZz are on her, so y not make a statement!!!! I wish I alwayzZz moved wit this confidence, control and purpose, if she hadn't the whole meaning of the moment would have went to waste, Nd she would have wasted HER moment, the only moment lyke this she may ever have... Y not be in control of Ur moment?
Congrats Mo...I was thinking behind closed doors you don't know how many people show their true colors at the oscars and in front of the camera all you see are smiles.... Sometimes when you see the worst of things you come out swinging, and hollywood is not all it's cracked up to be. So once again Congrats Mo, and you spoke with great intellegence. I'm proud of you.
I thought Anna Kendrick's performance in 'Up in the Air' was much more prominent that Vera Farmiga's. To me, Vera Farmiga's performance was just an afterthought.
There's something called DECORUM and GRACE, especially in a high profile event. We need to stop playing the angry black woman/man syndrome. We waste to much time on the negatives, the unnecessary. Protocol is protocol, it doesn't matter who's asking the question, what matters is THE MESSAGE IN YOUR ANSWER. Let's learn to build this into our character before we get to the top. We can channel all our energy on making more history by paving the way for more people of colour to receive oscars.
Obviously Mo'Nique made it to the top by who she is. She took charge of the interview. There was nothing particularly angry about it but very assertive. I liked it. And she paid tribute to history.
Yes she paid tribute to History. Mo'Nique made it to Oscars based on her performance in Precious. Her performance was excellent! She just need to horn her personality with more poise as she does with her craft. She started off assertive but there were to many back & forth. She could have spent that time answering more questions.
She was not rude, it was her big night..Mo'Nique was heavenly proud that she won an Oscar and that she's now part of the big wave of other African American Actresses that won Oscars like Whoopi Goldberg (who is a Comedian just like Mo'Nique) and Hallie Berry :)
love your answer when the man said you call yourself a stand up comedian, now will you call yourself an actress.....mo, had the best answer for him, no i am a stand up comedian that won an actress.....love you mo'
I love Monique's confidence. She let's no one put boundaries or limitations on her voice. Whether people like that about her or not, one has to respect that she is her own person.
i admire monique for looking out for the press, who helped her and stood by her..far to many of those guys jump on the bandwagon on night.and press lady is calling who she wants..Monique arnt rude...she just on top of her game..you go sister, and long my you reign.....
Just get over it....an Oscar for Black ppl is still a serious thing, so just be patient. As we get more awards the excitement will go down. but 2 to 200 odds are still a big deal to us. so calm down, have fun, and be safe.
Not the first black, but blacks are often overlooked for Oscars. There's only a handful of them that have won (maybe about 5 women), and it needs to change.
How is it shameful? First ask yourself how many black actresses deserved to win Oscars for Lead Actress in the first place, and how many roles are available to them. Angela Bassett should have won for playing Tina Turner, but other then that name other black women who DESERVED to be nominated. You already a minority in the business.
You need to go way further back than Angela Bassett. Diahann Carroll definitely should have won for "Claudine", and Diana Ross for "Lady Sings the Blues". It's a disgrace there aren't many roles available to black actresses, decent parts. Look at the part Halle Berry had to play to get one. Only ONE black woman to win for best actress in 82 years, and that seems normal?
She's paying tribute to all who came before her. The ones who struggled and played demeaning parts so she couldget juicy ones like this. If you dont like it, Im pretty sure you have a mouse (click another video). You're not part of the group. I wouldn't expect you to understand. Do some research
God bless you Monique, for being so humble and for your grace and you have inspired us all and the movie has really passed on a strong message in deed.
Mo' is a class act she may not be what a lot of "Hollywood" would want her to be which is petite with a 18" waist line and an ass flat enough to press Jeff Bridges shirts to perfection and better then any Hollywood cleaners could LOL but, what she is, is REALNESS she's just the truth and that's why she is where she is that LEGEND has talent for daysssss and confidence for monthssss LOL she won & she deserevd her Oscar God Bless Mo'Nique & congrats to you my sister the world loves you!!!!
Obviously Monique is a comedian and thats she ll do is make us laugh. What it really seemed like is that the announcer was picking all of the white people with questions and monique seemd to wanna get a variety of peolps to ask. Very humble women but will not be walked on.
how do you know who they picked to anser because they didnt show the people who asked the questions faces. the questions thing is confusing me. how do they do it?
lol.. i was thinking the same thing when i was typing but its what i heard so i went with it. Not trying to say that all indivisual races sound alike but from what it sounded like and the nature the questions that their were more white people being picked by the anouncer than MO'nique. Akso like thay had already been selected from certain magazines and paper which is not a bad thing but i guess Mo just didnt want to go in that particular order which was TOO FUNNY!
To add to what I said, she's addressing a lot of people who were criticizing her. So if she wants to have an attitude with them (and she can tell they're be fake), she can.
Go Mo mo!!! Omg,I was in tears when she won,and did her lil peacock strut up on that stage, omg, one of the few highlights of the show!!! Omg,she brought it,now she deserves it!!! Go Mo!!! Thanx for posting this vid!!! Can't wait to see this movie!!! ;D

Monique stop copying others. Be unique and original. Accept who you are and deal with it. Let Hattie rest in peace!

Hattie McDaniel paved the way for people like Mo'Nique to win Oscars and even be in movies for that matter.
