@friends01us If Richard wrote the phrase "Hey Dad, what do you think about your son now" to call out his father because he didn't believe his son could make it in the music world, then his father would reply (in this twisted fictional account) using the same line Richard used to excuse his behavior in the airplane.
Love this song, can't get enough of it. I come home from working 12hr and plugin my earplugs turn up the volume lean back in the chair and enjoy. After listing to this song life if good, I'm relaxed and everyone around me is beautiful.....
This song is about how he had a mental breakdown on an airplane and started to strip all his clothes off. The line "Hey Dad, what do you thing of your son now?" has a double meaning; hey dad, what do you think of my successes (being a musician), and hey dad what do you think of my failures (his breakdown). Deep and beautiful song.
@jdawg1692 I saw video of him and his parents....his Dad is all.........there for him. Awesome! notice in the video a picture of him as a teenager on the coffee table while water builds up?.....I thought at first that it was rebelling, but like you said, it really has a double meaning.....I love this song, it is timeless.....
The "music" paralized the Canadian Federal and British "systems". MUSIC. Right, coming over the radio. Shoe designs, "Accessories" that killed CSIS where the faggots shit and spazzed.
The "hunting", the "Dead baby" in the closets... the water in the "loo".
Tragic. Have a good look in there, Willows. It's an exhibit.
Most People don't know the lead singer of filter (hottie) and Trent Reznor (NIN) used to be boyfriends for almost two years. They were fairly open about it, speaking in rare interviews, although the lead singer of filter was more outspoken. They used to make out in the back of clubs after playing concerts and stuff. Unfortunately, Mr. Trent decided he got bored of being bisexual and they broke up. #90s #POPCULTURE #GAYLORE

Great song BUT .... what is the video about?!! It's clearly the Lucifer/Prometheus myth - he is cast out at the beginning to earth. This elucidates lines like "I don't believe in your sanctity" and especially the final line: "Hey DAD what you think of your son (Lucifer) now"! The flooding and water refer to both a cataclysm and the new speculum: age of aquarius!
@JackTheBaptizer actually its about him overcoming his fear of flying.he got really drunk and tore his shirt off and was screaming like a baby. so his friends took his picture "kicking and screaming" and sent it to his father with a message saying ' hey dad what do you think about your son now " that's what he said in an interview so they decided to make a song about the experience ---peace
@CoolConejo Thanks for the info conejo. Perhaps the Prometheus/Lucifer archetype was the video director's vision - because it's clearly there. According to Jung's collective unconscious/archetype concept we often do it unconsciously. Fairy tales, for example, almost always have a 'below-the-surface' element. Or maybe... I should just stop doing shrooms.
I need this singing dude to know, for the last like 2-3 years, I listen to this 1 song, every day .... not hear to explain why, just that it is ... and well ... it just is that way
@48kams I seem to recall hearing Rich say in an interview that him and his father were not on the best of terms at the time because of Rich's alcohol use.
For me, this song capped of the 90's perfectly. It always makes me reflect on those years gone by. This song will always be part of my life's soundtrack. Thanks Rich.
Criticism? Nah. We are all human...and we all make mistakes. Unfortunately we judge. We waste time on that instead of taking it and using it to do something positive. We are here to be caring, helpful, loving. It may take a bigger effort to do that rather than judge...but in the long run it gets easier, feels natural, and we become better for it. We have our weaknesses...the biggest being to turn our back on someone. Point is ...never give up.
Filter put on a great show last night here for us in Kuwait at Camp Arifjan! I'm putting some videos up! Thanks Filter for coming over and giving all of these troops such a great show!
@ThingsThatMakeMe on the band's facebook feed last week they posted how he wrote this song is about waking up from a dream you can't remember. I really, really wanted to comment something like, "I thought it was about that time you got shitfaced on a plane?" But I didn't. They are one of my favorite bands and that sorta comment doesn't win you free t-shirts.
Filter's frontman, and founding member Richard Patrick has said that the song is about him getting drunk on an airplane, taking off all of his clothes, and fighting with the flight attendants who tried to stop him. This would account for the introductory, and later-repeated, lyrics: "Awake on my airplane, awake on my airplane...my skin is bare, my skin is theirs."
MY WHOLE LIFE BEEN TRYIN TO PLEASE MY FATHER. HEY DAD WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR SON NOW . A MILLIONAIRE. NOT ME HIM. FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS SONG I WAS IN A DETOX KICKING METHADONE BELEIVE IT OR NOT THE WORDS CAME KICKIN AND SCREAMING. AND IF YOU EVER DETOXED FROM AN OPIATE YOU KNOW THAT KICKIN AND SCREAMIN IS NOT JUST A METAPHOR, YOU LITERALLY KICK AND SCREAMING. HEY DAD .....WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR SON NOW? JOHN TEIXEIRA FOREVER AND PROUD OF IT. !
@johntex37 Keep fighting the good fight...few will understand the levity of the journey...I will pray for you always...it was brave of you to voice your experience...make it count...
Damn, man. Really? You're shocked that your dad was a little ashamed and you're blaming him for having a hard time getting off of meth? You don't think that maybe he blames himself for your situation and can't look at you without wanting to die? Or maybe you actually think that getting addicted to dope and quitting it is like beating cancer. Noone picks cancer. But good job on deflecting your self-destructive behaviour on your dad. I give it another week.
@KoSStuff Great reply. They all want a huge pat on the back for cleaning themselves up. Never a heartfelt apology or compasssion for hurting their family members and other people that cared about them while they were on their path of self destruction. That never even crossed their minds. Addicts are nothing but weak, selfish, self-absorbed people who will stop at nothing to get their way. While the rest of us tap into self control and will power to live life right, they do not.
@KoSStuff Drug addicts are selfish type. My friend also has rich family in florida that don't give him a single dim, hes lived on his own since 16. and yeah..he's not a drug addict.
@johntex37 uh...the song is about him being drunk on a private plane and he was all passed out,his freinds took a photo of him and sent it to his dad saying " what do you think of your son now " This song is about a happy experience he had with some friends. " Kicking and screaming " is because he had a fear of flying on a plane and took his shirt off going all crazy like.

Songs like this are underappreciated, I wish music like this was at the top and not what is today.

Damn, man.
