  • Chris Economaki - they named the Press Box after him.

  • Great video!!! I run a fan group for a return of IndyCars at Pocono. Our twitter account is user name "IRLBack2Pocono".

Do you have any video of the 1981 Pocono 500 where the CART teams boycotted Pocono and USAC had a mix of IndyCars and Silver Crowns in the race?

Keep the Pocono Raceway IndyCar videos coming. I use them for propaganda. lol

  • Roger Rager is my all time favorite racing driver name.

  • The good ole days, CART at Pocono. IRL needs two more 500 milers, Fontana & Pocono, perfect. Triple crown bring it back...

  • Love the funky music

  • Al Michaels and Jackie Stewart were exceptional. Chris Economaki in the pits. Top Drawer talent.

  • this footage is freakin awesome

  • Why cut the Intro?

  • Ah! The good ol' days. It's a shame we'll never witness this type of American open wheel racing anymore.

  • I did not know ABC did this broadcast I always assumed it was NBC Sportsworld.

This was a Non movable side skirt weekend, required by the sanctioning body. After this race the teams that had full ground effects could use the moveable skirts that slid across the surface of the track for maximum downforce! The Indy 500 was only the other race that didn't allow movable skirts.

    A+ footage

  • Open wheel racing needs to go back to Pocono.

  • It sure does.

  • Agreed.

  • @RacerRose the only way that will ever happen is if this track is sold to someone who has an interest in hosting open wheel. this track was dreadfully bumpy in 1989 when the last race went off there. the current owners simply do not want to put the money down to bring the track up to open wheel specs.

  • @penske13 I agree 100% with you. I remember seeing the different colors of paint scraped off the bottoms of the cars at the entrance to turn 1. I still think if the conditions were worthy of racing there, the fans would come.

  • @penske13 They've repaved it at least once overall and in spots several times. The open wheel specs may need to be reexamined before people criticize the track because it supposedly isn't up to open wheel specs.

  • @STP43FAN1 all you have to do is watch last years nascar events at the track to see that it is not up to open wheel running there. no disrespect intended but pocono is not coming back the series unless they (pocono) repave it. ALL OF IT. i loved watching them run there but those days are over. turn the page.

  • @penske13 I did watch those races - August in person - and it can handle OW - maybe OW needs to make theior cars more durable and less brittle than they make them.

  • Al Michaels as a CART broadcaster? lol wow

  • Wow this is totally awesome :D
