  • what u mean REVERSE LENS?

  • my DOF button doesn't work! D: I use a canon 600D/rebel t3i Can anyone tell me why?

  • @ElleArt14 probably because you are already wide open, DOF preview is for when your aperture is stopped down, like f14, and you wanna see how much DOF you gain, not the other way... and when you're at the widest, like 1.4 on a 1.4 lens, it literally does nothing.

  • destinws2 showed his viewers this same trick in his "Smarter Everyday" series. It's pretty cool.

  • it works perfectly!thx!!

  • Is dangerous for valuable cameras. Is more cheaper buy a macro lens.

  • its more convenient to get a proper macro lens

  • use a reverse ring and dust does not enter

  • The idea is really good, but I believe you can afford to do this with cheapo camera otherwise using too much the camera without the lens attached, you put in dangerous your cmos sensor who is in contact with dust and pollution. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • You need to buy yourself a microphone.

  • Dakujem priatel, usetril si mi 100 a viac €. Ake jednoduche! Ja som este pouzil medzikruzky a vysledok fascinujuci!

  • some tricks with physical...!

  • lol sean of the dead song

  • i´m using that technique and the depth of field is really insane... haven´t thought about increasing the f number and then reverse... thanks! will try

  • nice tips bro..

Should i turn off my camera before i remove my lens from my camera?

  • @tovxnoor Yup its always better to turn off before removing the lens.

  • @tovxnoor Yes, always

  • To everyone, do NOT do this, you will get nasties in your camera and in the long run cost you more money.

This is why you remove the lens when not in use, and place a cap over it.

This person, was silly back then.

  • I know this tecnique. But I always forget the DOF thing. :D

  • why not simply get an extension tube?

  • Ok I had Reversing rings already by kept getting crap shots. Now seen this and used the DOF preview button they are WAY better ... THANKS :)

    TOP tutorial :)

  • how do you focus at the center of the flowers? i can only focus at close or far not middle?

  • @koray1921 With a F1.8 the deep of field is really little, so you can focus maybe just 10cm wherever you want. Of course the subject has to be as near as you can, no more than 10m. The nearest the subject is to you the more intense will be this phenomenom. Sorry for the mistakes.

  • i did not understand, how do u put the lens reverse on the camera, it wont fit!

  • @rdj200 Hi. I dont know if you have gotten your answer but you can by something called a reverse ring which makes it possible to put on the camera house like if it was a normal lens. But if i´m not mistaken you have to manual fokus when using it.

  • @rdj200 you have to buy a reverse ring, it's cheap like 10 dollars

  • Haha the poor man's macro setup....First of all, you should never remove lenses while camera is switched ON. Second, because the lens won't make a seal around the mount, it will just expose the mirror, prism and sensor to dust. I'd much rather buy a macro lens than do this.

  • @FlightSimTutorials

I allways switch lenses with camera on... And i didn't have any problems with it for 5 years... ;-) Czech Republic isn't very economically stong country /even our president must take ceremonial pen from abroad, for free/ so lenses are very expensive here. If you don't photograph macro often, it is much cheaper to use normal lens and buy some dust aid kit or something like that.. :) Anyways, thanks for opinion... ;-)

  • @FlightSimTutorials how can dof work if the camera is turned off?

  • @sjphs Ummm, what are you talking about? I think you missed my point. Read my post again, carefully.

  • While pressing the DOF preview button and take out lens will it damage the lens???

  • @fotoventure no

  • Queen

  • One way that will make sure you get dust and other bad things on both your mirror, prism and sensor. *thumbs up*

  • not worked for Nikon D3100 :((

  • Cool!!! i'm so going to have a go at this!! I LOVE Micro work!

    Great photographs!

  • common sense really been doing this for years

  • Hmmmm, I dont feel like risking my $1400 7D by accidentally jamming a cheap lens into it, Rather buy a macro, lol.

  • sometimes the photos turn out dim. how to fix?

  • well done and nice results, when I can get my hands on a smaller lens I shall give this a try.

  • great video...easy technique for cost savers...

  • THIS IS SO AWESOME!

  • Lol. "Excuse me about some writen mistakes, I don't learn English long time."

Well your English is far better than my second language because I can only speak one language.

But to the point though, those macro compositions were excellent and VERY creative.

Not just use of the standard lens as a macro lens, but the actual compositions were very good.

    Nice work.

  • FAKE

  • @MyBestFav fail

  • @MyBestFav until you pick up a SLR shut the fuck up

  • @MyBestFav ITS REAL!!!

I was just after trying it and it wored super fine!

Claerly you have NO CLUE about Photography!

    Get some education!

  • @DeadlyTeaParty ***Worked

  • can I do this with 18-105 VR lens???

  • @SoOoMy93 you got a D90 too. lol ??

  • if only there's an adapter for that..I can't hold it all the day..but that is still cool !

    thanks for sharing :)

  • @TuscaniManiac There is a adapter for it.

  • yeahh! COOL! i love this technique

  • My D3000 wont shutter when no lens is "connected", any ideas?

  • @mrnielsen2

I forgot my password as LukasBabcicky so i have 2 reply from different account...

I am not Nikon Fan so this may not give a sense, but these new cameras may be programed to not take a picture without lens. It is entry grade DSLR, so Nikon maybe didnt even count on using some of those techniques, reductions etc... Ask some Nikon user, they can tell you more... ;-)

  • @mrnielsen2 hey bro. when using nikon dslr's, set the dial in to "MANUAL"

  • What do you exactly mean by reversing the lens?

  • @hoomanisbackagain buy a reverse ring. SIMPLE ATTACH THE RING AND REVERSE THE LENS.

  • Thanks for this trick. Up until now i read all about back to back with two lenses but this is even better because you need only one :)

  • How exactly do you reverse a lens?

  • @mexicangirl18 take lens of DSLR and turn it around and hand held it in front of it

  • hey. one thing i didnt know before was that the aperture stays closed when removing the lens in DOF-testing mode. nice idea.

  • Luke,

I've watch and read some toturials of macro reverse. AFAIK, almost all of them use 18-55mm or 55mm lense. Does this technique only works on these lenses?, is it okay if if use my 18-105 lens. Thanks.

  • What do u mean reverse the lens as it cant focus or work when trying to attach the lens any other way?

  • Neat trick!

  • Nice! You just saved me $500.. for now

  • outstanding!!!

  • Good work my friend.

  • Very nice)))

  • Nice shots.

  • I CAN HEAR QUEEN!!

    oh yeh, nice vid xD

  • ok, so for measuring the light settings, first off, when applying the fstop, should i use the fstop dial on the lens or on the camera? and when metering the light, should i meter it with the lens on normal, then flip it and apply the same settings? or are there compensations to make? thanks. great vid btw.

  • How do you reverse a lens? I don't think my kind of lens works for that... it has a glass end that obviously doesn't fit...?

  • Cool!!

  • hey...ive got a prob i got a 18 55 kit lens...and when i do as in the video....when i wana take a picture and i look into the view finder its all dark.....

  • That is because kit lens 18-55 has F 3,5-5,6. Lens which i use 4 this have F 1,8 - 2 times lower than 3,5 on 18mm of kit lens and 8x lower than 5,6 on 55mm.

  • @LukasBabcicky Since you use the 1.8 lens on a much lower aperture that isn't the reason tho. My guess is more that when you use the kit lens the focus will be somewhere inside the lens if you don't use it at around 40-55 mm.

  • @LukasBabcicky im new but, what does that mean???? because i have the same problem...

  • take off the lens cap....

  • @leo2372 use flash will help because I'm facing the same problem here

  • @leo2372 if you have a Nikon, one thing you could try to do is pull the small lever on the back of the lens that opens and closes it and tape it in the "open" position.

  • @leo2372 : because you made the aperture smaller, less light will come into the sensor. Get a tripod and reduce the shutter speed.

  • @leo2372 That's because when you shoot in movie mode the mirror is in the up position blocking the prizm and viewfinder while the camera is using an electronic shutter. You have to shoot movie with live view and you can't take normal photos at movies the same time.

  • @leo2372

(Speaking from a Canon user's experience)

When you do video mode, the view finder goes black, and everything is displayed on the screen

  • @leo2372 there is a aperture control on lens mount, move it and you can control aperture

  • Hey dudes, and if you want even MORE try holding the lens farther from the camera by using a toilet paper or kitchen paper roll.

It works, instead of shooting a fly you'll shoot the fly's FACE!

  • man what an AWESOME idea!

it seems so obvious once you think about it

    amazing

  • be careful doing this guys, you could really ruin your camera's sensor.

  • I LOVE U MAN! IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM!

  • there`s an reverse ring adapter based on your diameter lens so u don`t have to hold and dirty your sensor.

also, it will be more practice if u use an old 50mm 1.4 MF Nikon/canon so u can change aperture ring

  • carefull.......but works great......Iam With 'Sdimmlic'

  • very clever..thanks

  • Very nice.

And what a neat trick to lock the apeture!

    Thanks!

  • WOW!!! My only concern is to get the sensor dirty... But it's aewsome!!

  • nice idea!

    great tutorial

    5 *

  • Beautiful pics!

Can I use a macro like this on my canon hf100 camcorder?

I just received a dof adapter, and would like to explore other options for videos....

  • Great idea, only downside is that dust may enter your camera sensor and costing you more in the long run.

  • @sdimmlic I use a reversed lens all the time, and I dont face as much of a problem.

  • Interesting. You should try recording yourself doing this, very cool!

  • That looks awesome! But I didn't understand how you reversed the lens, do you just use your hands to keep the camera and the lens together? Or you can 'clip' it and use the camera normally?

  • you have to hold the lens on the camera.. Don't let go :O

  • Seems like it doesn't work with my alpha =/

  • That sucks...

I use a Canon XSI Rebel.. It works ok with one of my lens.
