  • Strawberry seedlings grow VERY slowly, and their germination rate is rather low. If you saturate the soil with strawberry seeds, use blender-washings from strawberry smoothies, then you will have lots of them quickly : ) Their favorite spot to grow is in a planter under the northeast corner of the house. Plant them out in early fall, or heel in the planter so the ground insulates them in winter.

  • @Helioforge They are very, very slow to germinate. You've found a great use for left over strawberries in a smoothie. I hope you get loads.

  • @TheDiddlysquat Hi there,

You sound like you're having a great year so far. Strawberries from seeds take about 1 year to finally be large enough to go outside. I think it's much easier to buy plants as you'll get a crop that first year. As long as you train the runners you'll do fine and have enough for jam.

  • Good to know about the yield rate. I'll just dump the whole pack in my growbox.

  • @eurohim Let's hope you're not too overwhelmed.

  • pd: i also planted strawberries from seed, but my plants are way smaller...and they are growing fruits

  • i love redheads

  • Class Claire, WHAT A BABE!

  • @gavinsolar Thank you.

  • is it too late to plant strawberry plants now? or should i wait till its a bit warmer (im from UK)

  • @breakmonker You can plant them now, that's if you're able to find any in the garden centres. Either get small plants, or sometimes you can get bare rooted plants in a plastic bag. If you plant them now they'll be settled in time to produce some fruit this summer. You most probably won't get much, but if you train the runners when they come you'll get loads next year.

  • you just live a lovely life and helping others too to live a lovely life, i like your background which is full of flowers, and you look decent and pretty

  • @sandhiya3 I'm very lucky, my husband works very hard, so I can stay at home with the kids and have fun in the garden.

  • Here in New Mexico we get the black widow and the brown recluse...so if we see spiders we just kill them...we don't take any risks...being a Brit we have no heart for dangerous spiders

  • @bowler8 I think I'd still run away and scream.

  • You are much braver than I, as I would've ran off screaming or at least smacked it w/a shovel, hahaha..I hate spiders and creepy crawlies..altho I have allowed some garden spiders to co-exist from a distance to help keep the pests down. I wish I had something that loved to eat grasshoppers..I would buy chickens but Im afraid the predators or neighbors dogs would eat them. Seems your greenhouse is working wonders with strawberry seeds..I will need to plant some as I love eating strawberries.

  • @kokonutbaby1 I think if I wasn't filming I would have screamed and sworn more. When Mark was editing he asked if I noticed it crawling on the other side of the watering can. The answer was "No". I think it was hiding in the watering can until I put water in.

  • lol claire im 6f4 and 300lbs and spiders do the same thing to me.

  • @byront37 I think it's all those legs. I can cope up to a certain size, but if it's too large I have to ask Mark to deal with it. I'm not as bad as I used to be though.

  • tomato plants?

  • @garryentropy Did I say that? I get very confused sometimes. Sorry.

  • Good Information, thanks.

  • @roxiexd Growing from seed takes a long time, and is a bit hit and miss.

  • Claire you rock! Thanks for the information. I will venture out and try planting strawberries.

  • @EuphoricImpact They are more successful when you buy small plants rather than planting from seed. Try what you feel is right for you.
