  • "If you listen closely, you can hear the voice of the centuries."

And if we can't hear the voice of the centuries, Mr. Jones reading the phone book will make for an equally epic substitution.

  • I cannot thank you enough for posting this, althor12! You rock!

  • Wow...this puppet stuff is pretty eerie and creepy, perhaps unintentionally. I guess it goes to show that all really great children's stories have elements of horror and nightmares as well as dreams.

I understand the Svyatagor story is a pretty big one but surely they could have picked a less abrupt place to bring the audience in.

  • I cant get enough of the opening music to the show

  • this was the single most awesome piece of children's television ever made. this program has strengthened my resolve to read folktales to my future children. they'll know all the greats: Svahtohor, Clulichlain, St. George, King Arthur, El Cid.

  • Such a travesty what the kids of today miss out on!!

  • Hey isn't James Earl Jones the voice of Mufasa from the Lion King movie? He does sound like him.

  • james Earl Jones is simply magic!!!! Why don't they bring this show back!

  • my god this show was beautiful!!!! I hope it will be on dvd someday!

  • The show is great, but this episode is particularly good!

  • i also remember one about a circus...and the way to the circus was something to do with a subway.....

  • Crazy how this program means so much to us! As a kid, I didn't know anyone else who watched this show!

  • That opening music just means childhood. I was so sad that PBS stopped this series and that children missed it- and missing seeing the amazing James Earl Jones. Bring it back PBS!!!!

  • the intro had a scene from "the reluctant dragon" where saint george gives the boy a jousting stick

  • Wow I almost forgot about this show. I loved it as a kid. I'd Love to see "As Long As He Can Count the Cows" or "the silver cornet". Those were my favorite episodes. Thanks for downloading this one :)

  • @memoriesoftv those two were my favourites too!

  • Sooooo Gooooood. If you have more of these around, please post them. WGBH has the series in it's archives, but, as far as I'm aware, has no plans to re-release them. Been looking for these for ages. Thanks!

  • this show was amazing. simply amazing.

  • i didn't know anyone else actually watched this show. it is such a integral part of my childhood and family memories, and its neat to see that was the case for so many other people too. "fool of the world and the flying ship" is my family's favorite, i can't even remember not knowing that story.

  • the nostalgia hurts so good

  • Get 'Silver Cornet' too

  • My favourite story was "The Silver Cornet"

Bill and Bunny wasa good one, though sad. I did not know what autism was

  • I used to watch this show as kid when it first premierd...and this is how I got to know James Earl Jones

  • I want to add my thanks to those already posted - I've been thinking about this episode my whole life and I thought I might never see it again. THANK YOU!! :D This is so great. It really scared me as a very small child, too! XD

  • You're welcome. This episode really captured my imagination also.

  • whats the name of the episode that ends w/james w/some p-nut buttr?

  • There's a scene in the intro music in which two little mice can be seen (a boy and a girl mouse). What's the title of that film in which they are? A long ago i saw this cartoon but i cannot remember its title. But i know that in that cartoon the boy mouse gets on an island.

  • That's a scene from "Abel's Island".

  • Thank you!

  • this show was SO good, WHY is it not still on TV?

  • 'cause some public TV dimwits (Steven Keaton-like moguls) though Barney was a better show.

  • That theme song instantly puts me back in elementary school..

  • me too, only (retrospectively speaking) I wish the opening sequence had clips from Silver Cornet, or "As Long as He Can Count the Cows" or Frog/Toad, or Bill och Bolla (Bill and Bunny)

  • I wonder what the name of the Theme Song is...

  • Thank you so much! This was definitely the most beautiful episode of the series. Every element is designed so flawlessly! Thanks again for posting this!

  • THANK YOU! This is such a beautiful story- it was my favorite Long Ago and Far Away episode- I'm so happy it's on the internet now.

  • Thank you thank you thank you for putting this up! I've been looking for it for a good 15 years off and on ever since my Long Ago... tape broke!

  • DUDE! you own all for putting this up! do you have any more episodes? i have a couple and am more than willing to trade!

  • Thanks a million for putting this up. I was raised on this show. It's a shame they never released it on DVD and don't show it anymore. I would love for my kids to be able to see this some day.

  • Holy Fuck! I was raised on this show! Vanmorbo, that was the Rarg episode :D

  • The only episode I remember was about some little boy's dream world or something.... and these puffy dream pink and baby blue dream people had to go into the real world to do some mission but only had so much time to do it...

  • hearing Darth Vader is nice.

  • If anyone else out there have recordings of these Long Ago and Far Away episodes, please! please! Put them up!

  • I can't even express my gratitude...I loved Long Ago and Far Away. But for some reason, it was this episode that I remembered the most. Thank you so much!

  • OH MY GOD.

I have been looking FAR AND AWAY for this episode since I first saw it at age 5. You have made a grown-up girl's night. THANK YOU!

  • yay! You rock for putting this up! :D :D :D
