@MasterShake43 how can we defeat psycho mantis then?! how can we use motion control for xbox players w/o kinect. portable ops is such a collectors item! it can't be done... BUT IT MUST BE DONE!!!
Rarely you could find something like a film series or a book series that is almost perfect and it an absolute masterpiece. Metal Gear Solid is the only game series to ever be done that surpasses most films in many, many ways. It is an almost perfect series and an absolute masterpiece.
There was never (and there wil never be) a series of games, with a deeper and more tragic storyline than the Metal Gear Series. Kojima-san did an amazing job and he is a true mastermind of this generation...
So the AIs created by Zero were supposed to carry on his ideas of a unified state of mind. Instead, the AIs became "self-aware" so to speak, and found another way to create this unified state of mind through creating a new world governed by proxy wars, an arms race greater than the one during the Cold War, and I.D. control through nanomachines.
We made 0 go to 1 and multiply to 2, but then 1 went from .5 to 100. 100 turned into 500 and 1000 was created. 2 x 1000 = 2000 / 10 = 200 x .5 = 100 - 100 = nothing, but then nothing turned into 1 hundred million dollars!!!
@Metrionix its always been this. there wasn't the technology present for movie quality cutscenes in the days of the nes, but it was always product of those same motives. it had the most far reaching and interesting video game storyline expressed ever back when it was released. if anybody has mgs3: subsistence play it through to the end if you're that big of a fan, it's the best version and you won't regret it. it alone is worth subsistence not to mention all else that make it tremendous value.
@JohnKiller118 my bad, no other game has left such a nice gaping hole for the future of it's franchise, and i love how mgs4 had no choice but to go back and waste time on explaining why some white haired anime looking fag ever had anything to do with the series and how someone getting their arm replaced with the antagonist of the previous game made the latters personality take over to replace someone more compelling & significant as a part of the whole timeline, instead of move on. kicked ass.
@TheHunter14792 That was all MGS4's fault. MGS2 was supposed to end the series. People bitched and demanded answers, and Kojima copped out some out of his ass.
It had a compelling narrative, thought provoking themes and messages, great gameplay, and Solid Snake in his prime (I don't give a shit if you don't play as him for the entire game.) Even with all the countless retcons 4 did to this game, it's still the shit. What's not to like?
@JohnKiller118 would you actually put it above all the other iterations though? to be honest im probably a bit biased, i really got into the series with mgs3 and have bought/beat every canon game in the series besides mgs2 multiple times since then. i borrowed mgs2 from a friend for about a month but didnt bother even getting past the tanker chapter..
@JohnKiller118 yeah i think i will give it a shot the next chance i get, recently ive been getting back into the series pretty hard and it bothers me when i dont understand a mgs2 reference because i never got the whole picture there. theres really no going around it when i care as much as i do about continuity. and i forgot that i played mg2 a lot on subsistence but never actually beat it, could never quite adapt for some reason, why do you think its so on par with mgs?
@TheHunter14792 MG2 was one of the most unknown gems of the 8-bit era. The gameplay was essentially MGS1 in 2D, which at the time was extraordinary. The game's story set the basis for everything that made the series great; Gray Fox's tragic life, Big Boss' intentions with Outer Heaven, the friction between Snake and Big Boss, it all started here.
@TheHunter14792 (cont.) MPO just sucked. The controls were awful, the environments were dull as fuck, and the story, while it did have it's moments, was filler and ultimately fell flat. I HATED how it demeaned the Boss' sacrifice in MGS3.
I'm glad Peace Walker ignores/retcons the fuck out of the game. Go to "The Snake Soup", click "Editorials", and read up on "Leaving Behind That Crap That Happened in San Herionymo" to see what I mean.
@JohnKiller118 and lol mpo was a guilty pleasure for me even though i was pretty annoyed by the camera and dragging those bodies around everywhere, but you really think its that bad? out of curiosity
@JohnKiller118 i had the events of it summarized to me a bunch of times before and just kinda prehated it knowing the worst of what came from it. from all ive heard about it, it seemed like the cons outweigh pros but i dont really have an excuse for not experiencing it fully besides knowing the bad beforehand and it being a tad too late now with how outdated ps2 is. if i could get it now for ps3/psp or something id play it even if it was a total bomb just to but now i only have that bitter taste

I can't believe this all started with an arcade style game in the 90s
Metrionix 1 year ago 27
@Metrionix It wasn't really "arcade style." The original Metal Gear for the MSX was actually very sophisticated for its time.
And I will laugh at you if you try to tell me that "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" isn't comparable to the 3D "Solid" games.
But yeah, I like how the series started out small, then grew into THIS.

Metrionix ,you're mis-informed.
#1- 'Metal Gear' was not an arcade game. It was for the MSX2 home computer system .
#2- It actually started in 1987, not in the 90's.

@TheHunter14792 "would you actually put it above all the other iterations though?"
My order goes like this;
MG2=MGS1=MGS2 > MGS3 > MPW > MGS4 > MG1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> MPO
I can't choose between MG2 for the MSX, MGS1, or MGS2. They're all equally perfect in my eyes.
MGS3 was my first MGS game too. I thought it was great, but the classic style started to grow on me, and MGS2 perfected it.
Just give the game a chance or two. Who knows? By the end, maybe you'll love it.
Great games never get old.
