Instead of pulling their arms off and baiting them by setting it on the ground, you should move vertically and line yourself up with them so when they hop up/down to face you, they're sort of on top of you. Then crouch (down+c) and press forward, you'll pick them up. Press a and you'll slam them on their shoulder which busts their arm off and lays on the ground, baiting them all in one move. I just beat the game starting with 1 life on brutal using mostly this combination and crouch-lasering.
