  • Mickey Dolenz gets 100% of the credit for getting Tim on this episode of The Monkees. Dolenz directed it and it may actually have been the last - or one of the last- episodes of the show.

  • I like this more tan the album version

  • Wow this has a really different feel to the frusciante cover i just heard! both amazing thou

  • haha same here.. I like johns version better but this one was really good, never heard it before

  • where can you heare songs of the empyrean?

  • internet.

  • it's not about making money, and he has plenty of fans, surprisingly just as many as his fans have commented on this video as Tim's...

  • How to Gain Control of Your Emotions!

Wonder why your emotions control you, instead of the other way around? Emotions are reflections of individual needs. With some work, you can get your life back in order.

  • @ Rudakai

  • frusciante did good work. I love both versions even if fursciantes is even more melancholic

  • what a beautiful song!

  • god jeff looks so much like him

  • bellissima...

  • Yet another reason The Monkees should be taken seriously.

  • Listening to this song, you can begin to understand how influential Tim Buckley was on contemporary and later bands. Led Zeppelin, in its folkier moments (Over the Hills and Far Away, Kashmir), had a similar but harder vibe going. This is just a beautiful song.

  • Tim is great and i feel his sorrow in this song. i love him and jeff till death. they are unique and i'm glad i've met there music. it's a honour to listen to every day. thanks, R.I.P.

  • what a hip hip fella it was

  • John Frusciante is going to bring this song to a new level.

  • yeah did you hear the preview? oh my god it sounds awesome!

  • I've seriously listened to that preview 456948324 times. Hopefully the album leaks on Tuesday. I've purchased it but I need it sooner. So good.

  • yeah im gonna buy the japanese version on amazon tomorrow for 36 bucks. apparently it has better sound quality so im sold. even if its just slightly slightly better it'll be worth it.

  • Yeah plus you get the two Japanese bonus tracks with that. I purchased the album off Merch Lackey (off JF's MySpace). I going to download it when it leaks (hopefully tomorrow!) because I've already purchased it so I don't feel bad. I'm so excited to hear this song in full and in high quality. The Empyrean is going to be an epic record.

  • The album has leaked on Tuesday

  • i found the chords to this, and now i play it far too often!

almost brings me to tears every time!

    love this song

  • I know that Jeff Buckley has had a huge impact on the lives of many, but it's Tim who has had that effect on me. His voice is absolutely magical. :)

  • I really agree.

Tim is the man, I dig him alot better than his son.

  • Yeah, Tim was just too cool to properly put into words.

  • I've seen candy. Love it. So touching

  • has anyone seen the film candy with heath ledger and abbie cornish this song features in the film,

  • Power of the Monkees.

  • This is my first time hearing this song.

I wanted to listen to it as i heard john frusciante was gonna cover it and what a beautiful song i cant wait for johns version!!

  • I cant believe I have tears in my eyes right now.

  • where can i download this song?

  • Go buy one of the cd's! And we won't hate you :)

  • emule

  • This song is in the album Starsailor. Get it :D

  • nope

  • You can buy it on amazon for like 0.99

Search for Tim Buckley - Starsailor

  • Can't waity for John Frusciante's new album.

He will cover this song on that album...

  • I look forward to listen to any versions of this song but ...This mortals coil Version .....is truly beautiful...the Cocteau Twins..is also up there a very high standard for anybody to follow

  • Beautiful song. He was hot..

  • can't wait to hear john frusciante's version on his new album =]

  • What a wonderful song... I can only think about Heath Ledger in Candy when I listen to it

  • Tim has a wonderful voice and great songwriting skills obviously! But it's Jeff that has changed my life! He is my angel!!!!

  • How f****n good is that! WOW!!!!!!!

  • malditas sirenas....

  • cuanta agrasividad che !!!

  • grazie questa e una vera chicca stupendo ,grazieeee

  • I'm crying right now :'(

This song is in the very end in "Candy" with Heath Ledger...LOVE<3

  • me too!!! this is such a good song and Candy is one of my favorite movie.

Do you like Franz Ferdinand too?

  • no, not really ;)

but I didn't find any username, so I just wrote something...

  • a really rare voice

  • i would have never looked this up if it weren't for frusciante.

  • i understand ur a fru fan(meaning u like 'the man and his image and music') but all the stuff (solo)i've heard sounds like something thats already been done (in my opinion) no offense there

  • hey lunarsiege,

I don't know what stuff you have heard that even comes close to Fruciante's style, because..noo one is like him musically. His voice and guitar style is HIS OWN. If anything, I would say his guitar can relate a wee bit to jimi hendrix...but, you should try listening to more of his work, instead of posting a comment full of misinformed bullshit.

    P.S: No offense there.

  • he's talkin bout fru because fru is covering this song on his new album

he knows what he's talkin about...

  • LOL.

    He doesnt know, you idiot.

Explain to me, why he knows?

    Apparantly...you "know" too.

    You're an idiot too.

  • there will be a cover of john frusciante ... it will be awesome like the original ! hope so!

  • oh jesus not another cover. the coctaeu twins she be shot for there's

  • That´s what you get with a brilliant tune, funny that she got to be Jeff Buckley´s girlfriend later.

  • bullshit, ct version puts a good (and different)spin on this song.

  • yeahyeahyeah heard it before. reverb is not a different spin

  • no not the reverb, the gtr doesnt sound anything like this(its the cocteau twins, listen to any of their other shit?)or her friggin voice, hence, there is a completely different spin on the song. the ct version is better to me,and tim buckley was surpassed by jeff. then again, folk is a useless art to me so we may just be different.

  • This Mortal Coil, not Cocteau Twins. Same singer, different band.

  • there were various artists on the t.m.c alb i assure you it was the cocteau gtrsts(not saying m.c. wasnt on there somewhere)

  • omfg fru is gana play this?

  • John, Jeff, and Tim = Love

  • With the exception of John, he should not be named amongst father and son. Shouldn't be listed besides the flying Buckleys.

  • commented to you on another vid, sorry i blew up your inbox. i googled all this buckley info. im still just a jeff fan

  • handsome and a good voice

  • Reminds me so of Candy. .....

  • 01/20/2009

is the date for me :D

  • i think you may have youtube'd this for the same reason as me then :)

  • the empyrean :D

  • the only reason why I did too. But I love Tim Buckley now. I can see why Frusciante choose this to cover CANT WAIT till my cd comes in, but have to wait till I can listen to it in a dark living room for the full psychedelic experience.

  • jesus this may seem stupid but he looks soo... much like jeff

  • I know "rEMINEMTGR", I thought the same thing after I started getting into Jeff's music and decided to do a little research into his dad and saw a pic of Tim. They bore an uncanny resemblance to each other, more so than most fathers and sons in my opinion. That's why it's all the more sad (and a little eerie to boot) that both men died so young and in such tragic ways *wipes away tear*

  • heheh...are you seriously into wavy?

  • No, not really. I didn't choose it because I really admire that one homely dude from Woodstock who calls himself "Wavy Gravy" or anything. I chose it simply because as a name only I thought it sounded kinda cool. Had I known at the time when I took that as my user name that I'd be catching the kind of flack for it that I have here at this website I probably would've chosen a different one altogether.

  • i dont think it was flack. i always see the guy on anything woodstock/60's oriented. just curious. he's got no teeth

  • I definitely think that some people just doesn't when they must shut up...

Have you ever leanrt to do that ?

If you want I can help you...

  • why the animosity mister, it wasn't an offensive statement. What I meant was, that both of 'em are talented.

You must learn when to shut up, and listen and, in this case, read. Sorry I can't help you...

  • Sorry, but I had put this comment in reply to a stupid one "Like Father like son", but it hasn't work !

    So....

I don't want any misunderstanding, I just can't bear this kind of stupid comments ! They were both talented, and I love the two artists, but we can't say such stupid things ! It's really pejorative for the two of them ! They were so different, we just can't say that because of stupid genetics links !

  • I don't see your point, but whatever. Let's enjoy the music.

    Cheers...

  • so glad other frusciante fans came here because of the empyrean cover. if frusciante is a fan then its good enough for me, i trust his taste and this song is quite beautiful, like father like son. january is quite far suddenly

  • I love both of them.. can't wait to hear John's cover!

I can totally see why he chose to cover Tim, they absolutely fit. I would love to hear john cover Woke up in a strange place + Glad i never.

  • Can't wait for "The Empyrean" 1/20/09 the countdown begins!!!

  • Great song!

Though I'm checking it out because of Frusciante's new album, too :D LoL

  • When I heard frusciante was covering Buckleys version, I went to search for it.

I think frusciante will cover this beautifully.

Everyone pick up Frusciantes new album January 20th!

  • sembra ke sta senza i pantaloni...xò è bravissimo

  • me too...man on almost every version of this song here you now find comments from us...

im sure his voice will fit and sound beautiful to this song.

  • i think i just may cry when i listen to frusciante play this

  • Me too

  • ready for Frusciante's version?

  • so ready!!!

  • yeah thats why im checkin this out now, lol

  • i love you!

  • amazing video and to think it was on the monkees last episode they too knew good talent

  • Behold beauty...

  • wish i could download this somewhere for my mp3. This is just brilliant

  • On iTunes, look up Tim Buckley Song To The Siren, then find the one from the 'The Dream Belongs To Me' album. That version is the closest to this one here on YouTube. I bought it, and it's great!

  • Cheers man, that sounds cool.

  • This is magic.

  • im an instant fan

  • the version played on this episode is on the tim buckley anthology cd, thats where i first heard it. and its so much better than the original version i think.

  • This version is much better than the version on the record. Shame it was only on this tv show??? Amazing we have it on youtube. What a blessing to still have it.

  • great song!

  • wow! i had no idea this song was older than 4ad records. trip. Beautiful version

  • great version

  • i love this song!! A+

  • wah.... speechless.. typeless...

    sublime

  • ahhhh this is so lovely, the voice and all

  • The most emmotional singer-songwriter of all rock era!!! The first the best the biggest!!!

For forty years he is my rock hero!

  • love this song. I have never heard it before going to see George Michael's concert. he did a pretty good cover

  • This is his special appearance on the Monkees!! Awesome!!!! This song renders me speechless.

  • This is Such a Beautiful song... Tim Buckley lived a short, but Heart-Filled Life...

    :)

  • tim's version is also used in the israeli film "the bubble".

  • I have never listened to Tim Buckley before in my life! I happen to be watching The Bubble right now and decided to pause it and find this song once Noam started to sing it! Its a beautiful song and I am glad that I am now getting to know him!!! ☻♥☺

  • the monkies were a great band and they were actually really funny in the shows i was glad they put tim in the end of the "frodus caper"-that was the name of the episod they did when he sang

  • Anyone know where to download this version on Limewire?

  • This version is probably not available anywhere unless you recorded off the Monkees episode that this is from. Monkees episode 58 Frodis Caper. Monkees' final episode filmed circa Nov 67. Micky Dolenz asked Buckley to be a guest star on this episode Dolenz directed. Michael Nesmith had Frank Zappa episode 57.

  • what a song! his voice and delivery are amazing. if you havn't seen the film 'candy' with heath ledger and abi cornish about the happiness, normalness and ultimately despair of heroin use, then you must see it. and this song plays out the end of the film. brilliantly used!

  • Beautiful

  • Mickey dolenze from the monkees is the Voice announcing Tim. I belive this was on an episode of the monkees when they had to fill space.

  • I love this song, it is so beautiful. ::sigh:: when that siren sings there is nothing you can do.

  • I read about the monkees part of the reason that they didn't last as a show is because they tried to appeal to the teenagers at first then the hipsters and eventually both groups dropped them as a relevant show. Pretty funny.

  • so beautiful and sad, like Tim

    makes me weep every time

    thank you mickey dolenz

  • nothing compares ...

  • Ah for the days when musicians actually had to be able to play instruments and sing well and write songs that meant something.

  • Altar ke tut ki pugnetari cas ved in television ades...

  • hits the heart... even for the heartless.

  • Good point dvdfreitas, you cannot argue his talent, sounds good now, sounded good then and will sound good 20 years from now

  • There are a few moments in the history of music that are imortal. This is one of those. Such sweetness in his amazing voice, fabulous lyrics, amazing expression... Flawless.
