Mickey Dolenz gets 100% of the credit for getting Tim on this episode of The Monkees. Dolenz directed it and it may actually have been the last - or one of the last- episodes of the show.
Wonder why your emotions control you, instead of the other way around? Emotions are reflections of individual needs. With some work, you can get your life back in order.
Listening to this song, you can begin to understand how influential Tim Buckley was on contemporary and later bands. Led Zeppelin, in its folkier moments (Over the Hills and Far Away, Kashmir), had a similar but harder vibe going. This is just a beautiful song.
Tim is great and i feel his sorrow in this song. i love him and jeff till death. they are unique and i'm glad i've met there music. it's a honour to listen to every day. thanks, R.I.P.
yeah im gonna buy the japanese version on amazon tomorrow for 36 bucks. apparently it has better sound quality so im sold. even if its just slightly slightly better it'll be worth it.
Yeah plus you get the two Japanese bonus tracks with that. I purchased the album off Merch Lackey (off JF's MySpace). I going to download it when it leaks (hopefully tomorrow!) because I've already purchased it so I don't feel bad. I'm so excited to hear this song in full and in high quality. The Empyrean is going to be an epic record.
I look forward to listen to any versions of this song but ...This mortals coil Version .....is truly beautiful...the Cocteau Twins..is also up there a very high standard for anybody to follow
i understand ur a fru fan(meaning u like 'the man and his image and music') but all the stuff (solo)i've heard sounds like something thats already been done (in my opinion) no offense there
I don't know what stuff you have heard that even comes close to Fruciante's style, because..noo one is like him musically. His voice and guitar style is HIS OWN. If anything, I would say his guitar can relate a wee bit to jimi hendrix...but, you should try listening to more of his work, instead of posting a comment full of misinformed bullshit.
no not the reverb, the gtr doesnt sound anything like this(its the cocteau twins, listen to any of their other shit?)or her friggin voice, hence, there is a completely different spin on the song. the ct version is better to me,and tim buckley was surpassed by jeff. then again, folk is a useless art to me so we may just be different.
the only reason why I did too. But I love Tim Buckley now. I can see why Frusciante choose this to cover CANT WAIT till my cd comes in, but have to wait till I can listen to it in a dark living room for the full psychedelic experience.
I know "rEMINEMTGR", I thought the same thing after I started getting into Jeff's music and decided to do a little research into his dad and saw a pic of Tim. They bore an uncanny resemblance to each other, more so than most fathers and sons in my opinion. That's why it's all the more sad (and a little eerie to boot) that both men died so young and in such tragic ways *wipes away tear*
No, not really. I didn't choose it because I really admire that one homely dude from Woodstock who calls himself "Wavy Gravy" or anything. I chose it simply because as a name only I thought it sounded kinda cool. Had I known at the time when I took that as my user name that I'd be catching the kind of flack for it that I have here at this website I probably would've chosen a different one altogether.
Sorry, but I had put this comment in reply to a stupid one "Like Father like son", but it hasn't work !
So....
I don't want any misunderstanding, I just can't bear this kind of stupid comments ! They were both talented, and I love the two artists, but we can't say such stupid things ! It's really pejorative for the two of them ! They were so different, we just can't say that because of stupid genetics links !
so glad other frusciante fans came here because of the empyrean cover. if frusciante is a fan then its good enough for me, i trust his taste and this song is quite beautiful, like father like son. january is quite far suddenly
On iTunes, look up Tim Buckley Song To The Siren, then find the one from the 'The Dream Belongs To Me' album. That version is the closest to this one here on YouTube. I bought it, and it's great!
the version played on this episode is on the tim buckley anthology cd, thats where i first heard it. and its so much better than the original version i think.
This version is much better than the version on the record. Shame it was only on this tv show??? Amazing we have it on youtube. What a blessing to still have it.
I have never listened to Tim Buckley before in my life! I happen to be watching The Bubble right now and decided to pause it and find this song once Noam started to sing it! Its a beautiful song and I am glad that I am now getting to know him!!! ☻♥☺
the monkies were a great band and they were actually really funny in the shows i was glad they put tim in the end of the "frodus caper"-that was the name of the episod they did when he sang
This version is probably not available anywhere unless you recorded off the Monkees episode that this is from. Monkees episode 58 Frodis Caper. Monkees' final episode filmed circa Nov 67. Micky Dolenz asked Buckley to be a guest star on this episode Dolenz directed. Michael Nesmith had Frank Zappa episode 57.
what a song! his voice and delivery are amazing. if you havn't seen the film 'candy' with heath ledger and abi cornish about the happiness, normalness and ultimately despair of heroin use, then you must see it. and this song plays out the end of the film. brilliantly used!
I read about the monkees part of the reason that they didn't last as a show is because they tried to appeal to the teenagers at first then the hipsters and eventually both groups dropped them as a relevant show. Pretty funny.
There are a few moments in the history of music that are imortal. This is one of those. Such sweetness in his amazing voice, fabulous lyrics, amazing expression... Flawless.
Mickey Dolenz gets 100% of the credit for getting Tim on this episode of The Monkees. Dolenz directed it and it may actually have been the last - or one of the last- episodes of the show.
