I had an autopsy done and it revealed that Winnie had a bad heart and was exercise intolerant. I had noticed that if she was frightened by something and flew across the room several times she would pant with her mouth agape. A day or two before her death she also uttered a painful(?) yip or caw whenever she flew. I was postponing a trip to the vet until further trust and bonding occured.
@wasp9 Winnie was autopsied. It was a weak heart. She was exercise intolerant. I had noted that she would pant, with mouth agape if she flew around the house, and just prior to her death she would utter a painful(?) sound when taking flight. I was making mental notes of this for a future vet visit but I didn't want to stress her by trying to catch her. We were still building a trusting rel'ship.
Ooooh I am so sorry for your loss :( My hear goes out to you at this heartbreaking time.....I know the pain you're feeling, and that no words can take it away. You are in my thoughts. Please know that Winnie was very lucky to have YOU, and that she is now flying free and watching down on you and Joker xoxoxo Yvonne&Crazy
I'm sorry to hear about Winnie - we have been watching her on here and getting news through the crow group. She has had a blessed life with you and you have your memories to treasure
sorry for your loss, she did seem happy with you and Joker. Im sure she was gratful for what you were able to do for her, she was a really nice bird and cute with how vocal she was. Be strong for Joker.....

Are you sure it wasn't went nile? Crow's are extremely susceptible to it. I was worried when I saw him in the outdoor aviary.

Thank you, I am filled with sorrow. Joker is too, I am sure, and we have been sitting in the sun, he on my knee. Winnie was so sweet and winsome.
