@3S3CHIxO Yeah a lot of people didn't like this lesson because it was meant to be more of a demonstration and source for ideas on doing fills. I wasn't trying to teach these particular fills. I wrote up my intention in the accompanying text but I guess that doesn't get read too often.
@BLACKSANDMETAL13 Just in case you've never taken one apart, this is the old style of electronic trigger. You use a normal bass drum pedal but you need a special beater. The top of the trigger is a rubber cap with a gel insert. Under that is a piezo trigger. I had one of these old style triggers die and it only took minutes and a few bucks to replace the piezo trigger.
@ScoopDeville04 You cheapo you... You can only afford a $4,500.00 drum kit? What a loser!!! You can't purchase an acoustic set for $500.00... (sarcastic) lol Nice fills man, thanks for the video, it gave me some fresh ideas... I've been stuck on the same patterns for a while. I appreciate this video man. Thanks again!
@darcor2 You're welcome and you're one of the few people that understood this lesson was just me spewing out some ideas. I guess I shouldn't have called it a "lesson". Oh well. I'll also work on trying to afford that acoustic kit. :)
Toad what a great lesson! I picked up so much from it in no time!
Here are some more INSIGHTS on how to become a better drummer:
Play 16th note fills, then play 32nd note fills in double time. After that, kinda incorporate some Dave Weckl fills. But you will definitely kick ass with Jojo Mayer fills and you'll have to drill rudiments implied by Buddy Rich at 295 bpm.
Play over the bar line, apply linear drumming, quintuplets, one hand rolls + Mohler.....
@kikstikdrum OK but don't forget to do that Vinnie thing where you play polyrhythms while pushing up your eye-glasses with one hand and eating sushi with the other.
this is fucking horrible this dude needs lessons and he should def not be giving them... this is very elementary sounding.. nobody plays that anymore..
What's with all the muppets complaining about the fact that he uses an electronic kit?? It's not supposed to replace an acoustic kit, it never will. It has different pros and cons just as anything does. For this guy to demonstrate techniques on, it works, so what's the problem? I reckon if all the kids that sit around dissing these FREE tutorials spent more time practicing their instruments there would be many more decent musicians in the world!
@FloX795 Nah he's got a downward pedal. My dad has a Roland set where he upgraded to this kind of pedal. Helps for faster foot work since gravity is working with you =D
P.S. If you knew this information and was just being sarcastic, i apologize. lol =)
@Llerom26 check out vansdrumming, its here on youtube , he has a sound proof room, acousic walls and the sound is much better asnd he teaches as he goes , seems much more helpful to me , being told what he's gonna do , then doing it , slow at first so you can see it .... give it a watch and see if it's helpful
Electronic drum set? really? Dude I took one look at your "Kit" wrote this and looked for someone playing real drums. I respect your skills but your kit needs to go.
@MontageReflex well just because someone has an expencive kit doesn't mean anything. From day one I was on an acustic kit. And to be honest I don't like change. I understand that sometimes the better option is electronics but I still don't like it. This is a good video for new drummers.
@07123me I already made that point. Even if you made a lot of money as a drummer, I doubt anybody would care how big your set is. It's how you use it that matters. There are professional drummers that make a ton of who use a 4 drum 3 cymbal basic set. It's about quality, not quantity.
@MrDefdwarf Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones is a perfect example of this. He's also used the same cymbals he uses on recent tours for close to 45 years. He doesn't go buy new equipment. He plays his stuff till it wears out.
Im a 14 year old guy and i've drummed on a DW kit wich costs 14.000 dollars. it was my drum teachers, that sounds soo great, now i think my Pearl kut sucks!
Hi Mr. Deville, love your lessons, gud for beginners like me. Can you please give tips on how to know how many drum fill beats is appropriate for a song.
@ThaTyger im just saying, i think it wouldve really helped if he showed how to do 50% of those beats SLOWLY...even if they're easy beats, it still can look confusing when shown only from one angle and not to mention, its youtube quality -_-
I saw a comment close to the bottom "thats fucken tight i wish i could play like you". There is really somethin wrong if you cant play AT LEAST 95% of what this guy is playing. Its all basic stuff and you dont have to have been in lessons for years you can teach your self this stuff in a couple days or weeks just by hearing the drums in music you like and playing what you hear and then come into your own style. Its easy just try it.
@drummer313ify I think the TD-20 module sounds pretty good. If you got plenty of money you could always attach it to a decent drum VST using Midi. But well it's electronic, so it'll never be as "real" as the real deal ;) Heck of a lot easier to recond though.
All i can say is an electronic drum kit covers for you when a beat doesnt necesarilly make sense. So anyone new to drumming must start with a regular drum kit to ensure normal learning
I practice electronic in my apartment day time and play acoustic drums on stage at night ... for those who need to play quiet...electronic are a great choice ...of course if you do not like them...do not play them...
man, you are really good. You've been doing this a while. I wish one day to be as good as you, but I know I won't. But, Rockband sure is fun on my ION drum kit. I'll be getting the same snare you have in the video's and the three toms are two pd-6's and one pd-9. Then the cymbals are the alesis surge cymbals. I'm having fun trying to learn how to play and your video's help allot. Thank you so much. Travis.
You should seriously advert these lessons as basic lessons, because any drummer who played for a little time, won't learn much, if anything, from your lessons.
I hope I do not sound too rude, this is not my intention.
I love how people are complaining that he's doing the fills too fast. This is an EXTENSION of the first fill lesson he gave, and it's just giving you ideas for fills to do on your own. He's just messing around with all the concepts he did much slower and more methodically in lesson 1 to show you the composition of fills. In the end, you gotta come up with those fills yourself, part of drumming is being musically creative.
I got a dtxplorer and those rubber pads hardly have any rebound, it feels terrible but I'm told it's better for chop development, as blanco said, and it's not like I'm going to be playing on this beginner set for the rest of my life.
I had one of the first Simmons electronic sets, played it through a Roland 626 sound board, Back then the pads were hard poor rebound you really had to work. It was great for my chop development. The mesh heads now offer too much rebound, My students with these high tech E-sets lose out on timing when they go to real acoustic sets because the heads don't offer the rebound like a mesh head they end up tiring quicker or missing beats. In my opinion E-sets are to keep the noise down in the house.
For me at least everything feels kinda cramped, and I guess normal electric drums are bad for your wrists? I dunno. He has the expensive ones with the fabric (I think nylon) heads on them. They're really nice. If you want to try them out just go to guitarcenter or something. They usually have sets like that set up, so that you can try them out. Electrics are nice, because they're way easier to record, you can change the sounds, and they're not as loud if your neighbors are assholes.
Yeah, same thing here. I don't like the electric drums, since... It's not a real drum! You don't feel the music, you can't crash the cymbals.. I don't like electric drums, even if it is more convenient to practise without annoying everyone with the sound.
@darthsupreme18 i know right. and when you practice on an electronic for a long period of time, and then go back to the regular kit, its like you forgot how to play!!! well thats how it is for me at least...
I feel your fills and grooves are extremely basic and you should work to a click, or record yourself with a click on in the background. But your concept was kool
put it this way when i play a hard beat on a electric i think damn im good and the beat is not that hard. but once i transfer that to the real drums.....man!!!
Electric kits feel like wearing two condoms during sex and sound like ass. Even the V-drums. I understand they have their place in apartments. But you can't argue that its better then the real thing.
Not the metaphor I would have chosen but in the same way that condoms not only protect you they protect your partner, a lot of band members (and family members) may feel that electronic drums are better than acoustic. I think electronic drums sound excellent given the proper PA system and a sound guy that knows what he's doing. The only time I've ever had every drum mic'd is in the recording studio, no one wants to bother live.
how are you supposed to get those sounds from a electric you first need a acoustic why not keep the acoustic so you can make your own sound not copy someone elses noise
@ScoopDeville04 haha nice comeback... i prefer acoustic drums, just beacause thats what i grew up on. but i would love if i could get an acoustic so that my parents dont get mad at me for playing at 7 in the morning hah
@Forza2begdrift Try reading your post before you submit them. This would explain why you still live with your parents or are you even old enough to have an opinion?
@ScoopDeville04 Why would you want to mic a V-drum kit? You can plug it in directly just like a bass guitar. In all my years I've only heard one recording using V-drums and it honestly sucked. It sounded slightly better then the MIDI channel 16 drums in the super Nintendo games of early 90's. If you walk into any real recording studio and say "I want to record my V-drums." The engineers will laugh at you.

Too much showing off.
If you want to show people, the do it slowly....he did way too fast for learners
savior330 2 years ago
this isnt for learning man
its just to show examples for YOUR own fills
the first lesson shows more of a How-To
where as this is just for u to get ideas from so u can build ur own fills for ur own style
drumming isnt about copying what others create
its about creating your own music and own style
that goes to show the difference between people who are playing the drums and musicians

Look at the drum heads - the word ROLAND on every single skin might be a slight indicator...

I have always wanted to try electric. Is it any easier than regular?
jakenavtv 2 years ago
For me at least everything feels kinda cramped, and I guess normal electric drums are bad for your wrists? I dunno. He has the expensive ones with the fabric (I think nylon) heads on them. They're really nice. If you want to try them out just go to guitarcenter or something. They usually have sets like that set up, so that you can try them out. Electrics are nice, because they're way easier to record, you can change the sounds, and they're not as loud if your neighbors are assholes.

easier depends
if u have the mesh heads u get alot of rebound
with the rubber ones, you dont
electric for me isnt as good as the real deal because i dont get the same feeling of beats.
with a real kit i can FEEL the music, unlike with E kits, i can only listen to the music -.-
allXelseXfails 2 years ago
Yeah, same thing here. I don't like the electric drums, since... It's not a real drum! You don't feel the music, you can't crash the cymbals.. I don't like electric drums, even if it is more convenient to practise without annoying everyone with the sound.
darthsupreme18 2 years ago
@darthsupreme18 i know right. and when you practice on an electronic for a long period of time, and then go back to the regular kit, its like you forgot how to play!!! well thats how it is for me at least...

i really dont like electrics
i know people who play well on electric, but when they play on an actual drum kit, they fail :P

This is good. But it seems to be going at above 90bpm. Can you do another video sticking to the 90bpm so that we can see and hear better? ThANks.

MrDefdwarf 2 years ago 10
Not the metaphor I would have chosen but in the same way that condoms not only protect you they protect your partner, a lot of band members (and family members) may feel that electronic drums are better than acoustic. I think electronic drums sound excellent given the proper PA system and a sound guy that knows what he's doing. The only time I've ever had every drum mic'd is in the recording studio, no one wants to bother live.
ScoopDeville04 2 years ago 3
how are you supposed to get those sounds from a electric you first need a acoustic why not keep the acoustic so you can make your own sound not copy someone elses noise
robisbig10 2 years ago
@ScoopDeville04 haha nice comeback... i prefer acoustic drums, just beacause thats what i grew up on. but i would love if i could get an acoustic so that my parents dont get mad at me for playing at 7 in the morning hah

@Forza2begdrift Try reading your post before you submit them. This would explain why you still live with your parents or are you even old enough to have an opinion?
MrDefdwarf 1 year ago
@ScoopDeville04 Why would you want to mic a V-drum kit? You can plug it in directly just like a bass guitar. In all my years I've only heard one recording using V-drums and it honestly sucked. It sounded slightly better then the MIDI channel 16 drums in the super Nintendo games of early 90's. If you walk into any real recording studio and say "I want to record my V-drums." The engineers will laugh at you.
