  • check out the 17 minute purple haze/teen town trio medley on my channel.... it's crazy but you gotta love it....

  • I'm a jazz musician. I play the bass. I first heard this when I was 10 (my older brother, a guitarist had just bought a walkman - it was 1982). I remember looking at him while he was listening to something, swaying and really loving it. I asked if I could have a listen and it was this version of Teentown (from the 8.30 album). needless to say, it changed my life. And every time I hear it, i think back to that first time and say a little thank you to Peter, Joe, Wayne and especially to Jaco...

  • The version on the live compilation "Live & Unreleased" from 2002 (with Alex Acuna on drums) is also pretty jammin'- it happens to be my personal fav as the tempo is slightly fasterthan here, but this one jams too.

  • ON FIRE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow, just amazing

  • Sad story about Jaco's death

  • I love it. The most energetic piece of recording in history. Even though Jaco drops out near the end. Bass must have dissolved.

  • That is what I call, a Jaco Jam!!!

  • Jaco could "out funk" anybody, black or white!

  • Could there be any recording with more energy and drive than this? (regardless that i think i hear jaco drop out early on the end) Good alarm clock track!!!

  • Indeed the best version ever!

  • The fundamentalists of music. Abstract and geometric forms, Liquid in metal construction. Like metropolitan city in a rush and chaos, but yet harmonic.

btw. is there any chance some one could give me directions where to download the amazing "Heavy Weather" and "Mr.Gone"?

I do have those two along with "Black Market" in vinyl, but back home, and I am out in another place for a long time, and I would like to have these two in my mp3 player.

So, if someone knows, do a favor, will you?

  • The fundamentalists of music. Abstract and geometric forms, Liquid in metal construction. Like metropolitan city in a rush and chaos, but yet harmonic.

  • I heard Jaco hated the way Zawinul played his bass line on his keyboard.

  • The 1979 double live album 8:30

  • How COULD you post this without giving full praise and a mention to Peter Erskine???????

  • this is the craziest shit ive ever fucking heard

  • Oh my I LOVE this. Talk about taking me back to magic teenage years. Thank you. Fabby!!!!

  • sono dei maestri

  • hey guys, do you think you all could watch my bass vids and drop some comments on em? id appreciate hearing your thoughts. ill be posting some more vids, so you can subscribe if you want. ill return the favor. thanks!

  • Wow this is so messed up. Totally blew my mind with awesomeness.

  • One correction to the list of players above. This live version off of 8:30 the drummer was Peter Erskine. Monolo and Alex Acuna were not on this recording.

Long live Jaco and Joe. I workr=ed for Weather Report from 78-80 and Jaco from 80- 82.

  • This is FANTASTIC!! I've never heard this version before. Trust Wayne to take it up a notch. Excellent stuff.... so much energy.

  • Muito bonito

  • what album is this off of? i really need to get this

  • this is peter erskine on drums. not alex acuna. this is off the 8:30 album.

  • marcus miller's version is pretty cool too, not the same but very groovy and sweet to listen!

  • Fantastique, ma jeunesse...qui continue en écoutant ça!

  • i was looking for this version for last 20 minutes.... when i saw "Best Ever" in your title, i thought "finally!", because i knew this must be it.

This is so filled with goosebumbs upon goosebumbs it may be actually damaging to your skin.

Should come with a dermatologist's warning.

    Thanx for posting.

  • When I was a kid, I saw them open for EWF at the "Garden" in NYC. I was with the woman I should'Ve Married : Ms. Fran Deloris Scott.- Joey Garcia

  • that's when Music was being played.

    F*****G GOOD

  • @salvoben Jazz me up

  • Either Jaco didn't get mixed in, or whoever was running the recording had him muted or potted down early. Zawinul's keys is all you hear on the whole first run. Great album though, 8:30.

  • I met Peter Erskine in Chicago at the NAMM Show in Chicago years ago. Very friendly mellow guy... I would have loved to have met Jaco. Maybe in another life...

  • 0:32 Is Zawinul playing yugioh or what?

  • malcompalm is right... this version is from the 8:30 although the first album this track was on was Heavy Weather... personally I like the live version from NY I believe was recorded in 85 but don't quote me on that.

  • This is not from Heavy Weather, as the inro indicates. It's from the album (CD, whatever) 8:30.

  • gracias por esto!

  • Peter Erkine.

  • yeah this version is from the 8:30 album, with Peter Erskine on drums and not Acuna.

  • left me breathless, i kid you not.

  • is from the album 8:30? is my favourite interpretation too

  • acuña... just perfect

  • FUCKING BALLS!!!! wooooo hoooooo JACO!

  • rock nd roll!!!

  • Phenomenal! What I wouldn't have given to have seen these legends at their peak. RIP Joe and Jacko x

  • jaco

  • Best version indeed

  • Peter Erskine on drums

  • Enough said! These cats are workin it out.I thought Jaco could'nt rip this cut any faster!Till I heard this. And yes,Erskine is real nice;but I got a chance to check Acuna live .This boy is niceeee!very clean with alot of power. I say he's faster than Erskine.

  • i think god began to speak to us at 4:29 through his bass

  • i was hoping to see a video, but when i saw the pictures i was actually pleased. these are some pretty good pics, haven't seen em anywhere else.

  • Z looks like a Turkish goat herder

  • I really dug Alex Acuña.

  • Horrible edit just before melody. Everything else great.

  • The peruvian Alex Acuña,one the best drummers of the world..

  • Ahem... This is Erskine playing drums. The video description is wrong.

  • Indeed, you are are correct, ScreenEyes ...This cut's from "8:30", whicht was, arguably, the most phenomenal configuration of Weather Report ever assembled ...Joe, Wayne, Jaco and, as you've mentioned, the fabulous Peter Erskine. I saw that tour at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA ...Supporting acts were Pat Metheny, Sonny Rollins and Andy Narell ...12 hours of music -mind blowing!

  • @AwaTu Oh man! Sonny, Pat and Weather Report in the same building? Did time stop?

  • Great version, but what is that @ 0.27? Time is a gone, it feels like an edit. Or is that compression turning the hihat down?

  • it's called "dynaimics". It's done by the drummer,playing softer,then louder.

  • compression is rarely used in jazz recordings for truely good drummers

  • compression is always used when recording and mastering.

  • simply just not true...compression is not used on the individual hi-hat .. as I was responding to an earlier question...read before you make stupid comments

  • If he don't know that he never been in a recording studio !

  • to some extent, yes.

but 'always/never' are shitty words to use on youtube comments :)

  • this sure is the best version i´ve heard yet

  • I know another version... you can hear it on "Live in Italy"... it's wonderful!!!

  • this is from the live album 'weather report 8:30'

  • Pastorius and Zawinul are two really dead people. They're not even remotely alive.

  • @levanyzzuf if i give you a dollar levanyzzuf , will you please go out and buy a clue

  • @upsidetheflipside are you suggesting you have evidence to disprove my theory?

  • @levanyzzuf I dont know why that comment made me laugh, but it did :P

but that is a good point, nothing about them is alive

  • oh yeh and peter erskine drums on this one not alex acuna

  • I'm pretty sure this is the 1978 offenbach gig (the one from the DVD 'forecast tomorrow') if anyone's interested

  • Shivers in the back when I feel this!

  • thanks for this clip.

    AMAZING!!

  • No problem, thanks for watching.

  • @smoothbabic ECCELLENTE!!!

  • wayne shorter gets too carried away in the second half. great fast bass lines in this version though.

  • Excellent--Where is this from?

  • It's a live album called 8:30

  • woooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaa!!!!!incredible version!!!!great jaco and shorter

  • This is undeniable proof they were geniuses.

  • excellent

  • alex acuña!!

  • "teen town" is on "heavy weather & 8:30" guys (fyi).

  • I bought the 8:30 record before I even knew who Jaco was. Still didn't know what I had till I bought his self titled and put two and two together. Got it on vinyl, suuuuper sweet.

  • Please spell Manolo's last name correctly, I am his siter and our last name is BADRENA not Badren, plese fix it.

  • so why dont you put vid of you brother ?

  • Erskine is great but anyone feel like I do that Acuna is vastly underrated? Maybe its just that I've played Heavy Weather to death for the last THIRTY years, but it seems like he could have pondered over every little snare accent for a week to get it just right.

  • jaco actually played the drums himself on the Heavy Weather album

  • You are right, he played drums on the studio version of this song. I remembered he sang and played steel drums on Heavy Weather but I'd forgotten about the skins work.

My previous statements stands, though. All hail the glory that is Acuna! (hope I spelled that correctly)

  • Waynes blowing his brains out..just trying to cut through...he might have tore something down low...

  • No, the combo is Zawinul, Shorter, Pastorius and Erskine, and Yes, it is the 8:30 Album

  • Jaco is pure and uttr twistd BLISS.he said many times tht 'teen'was a song he didnt fuck around wth

  • Hahaha hell yes!

  • Thanks for the great post. Cheers

  • This is from the album 8:30, not Heavy Weather.

  • Hahah, yes I know, I have both albums. I put Heavy Weather photo and in the tags because thats where the original is from.

  • then explain to my, why is it on my heavy weather cd?

  • Hello.

This ISN`T on Heavy Weather, it`s on 8:30. The studio version (slower and half the length) IS on Heavy Weather.

  • ok, thanks

  • Useful info...I never realised that...Thanks!

  • this is jaco pastorius's compersition lol

    :P:P

    AMAZING!
