he's playin' the griot role, telling the story of el hadj omar tall a fulani leader who fought the french colonial army in the west africa. what an epic story. greatest baaba thank you, now african-american will know that there was a lot of black african hereos who fought colonialist in africa.
@50fadel Thank you!!!! I always wonder what he's saying! I'd really really love the original lyrics to Mariama (from Baayo album) if you happen to know them, I've only been able to find a translation of them 10 years ago.
benigcoca..please don't think like that...maybe you feel this music 'cos it's your real culture...too many unsolved mysteries...who knows your ancestors could have been from Futa Torro...this is your culture too, my kinfolk...don't feel alienated...we all in this together...
I love Babaa Maal. I had the honour to see him play in Central Park Summerstage in 95. His vocals are huanting and soulful. The music is mystical and has a touch of magic in it.I have been keeping up with his music over the years since my college days.
Africa! only Africa, Africa is Deep, Africa is where real people live, Only Africa, It's where the human soul came from, Thank you For staying true, God bless you.
This song was interpreted in pulaar and french, even though I can not explin clearly what it says in pulaar ,I know the singer praises, and express the quality, bravery and greatness of El hadji Omar, you can still go to yahoo and search for some sites that can teach you about that great resistant.Thank's
Beniqcoca, sorry for what history has done to our brothers and sisters, but take heart, wherever you are in the world, the blood and dna you carry, will never be taken away from you. You feel that way because its part of who you are. Thank God you are blessed to have realised that. We have a beautiful culture and we want every brother and sister to share in that. May God give bless and give you peace in your heart.

@MrSergeantPepper "au cours de nos veillées"
(le "sic" est péjoratif, c'est dommage... il suffit de remplacer "jouent" par "jouons")Merci pour la transcription de ce magnifique chant. Amitiés.

Since Baaba Maal is Fulani, we call it a different word. The Bambara call it n'goni. We call it Hoddu in Fulani.
