I'm restoring my fathers 79 gt80 rigth now, I'm putting a new cylinder, crank, crank bearing and a top end. Most of the electrical needs to be checked too.
So i got the bike running (sort of) and i cant get it to stay running i cleaned the carb and i got a half lap around a tennis court but ever since then it just goes for a milla second but before i cleaned the carb i couldnt go anywere but it would run for about 2 minutes so what should i do
@summerfest1mike New spark plug. Clean the carb again. New fuel. Clean the filter inside the petcock(fuel switch under tank), clean air filter, and tune carb. What spark plug are you running? I think it should be a b7hs (NGK).
My first bike was an almost identical 77, we were rebuilding them and selling them for their original purchase price when they were 10 or more years old' beautiful little bikes, very high quality kids bike, and I hope nobody got a custom built tire, just relace the hub to a current size rim,I'd still in 2012, pay original purchase price,(cdn$733.33 ,1977) for a good one
@GGBULLETz Can be, I'm not sure what happend to the lights but I purchused the battery, wireing harness and speedo hoping to restore the bike. I've since lost intrest in the bike because it keeps losing compression and costing too much. So yes it can be street legal, but the front tire would need to be custom made because it's not manufauctured anymore. It would be to hard to make it roadworthy.
By the it's sorta for sale, local delivery/pickup
thanks! that's how I got the bike. I am slowly getting stuff like I just got a speedo for it and a wireing harness. put some vids up of yours, wouldn't mind checking it out.
rlly nice :) i have '79 yamaha MR 50, wich i cant find anything about on the internet. do you know of any sites that i might find anything about the bike? and maybe where i can buy some spareparts for it, i want it to be original
sorry for the late reply i was away. but i had a quick look around and couldnt find much on those. parts are probally just going to be genuine or ebay. thats where i get mine.
Yeah i figured it was, but it is oil injected i found out... my mom has one and i thought that we were totally abusing it because we only put gas in it.
well it is all 4 up. if u are trying to change gears on these bikes when it is not running u need roll forward a bit so that it engages each gear. do u have one?
well yeah thats what ur meant to do with anything really haha. some race cars/bikes are setup to use clutchless shifting for any gear except like 1st and 2nd. being an old and tired bike u should always use the clutch so u dont break anything. theres no point in not using the clutch unless its broken or ur hand is busy u should just use it.
not much wiring left on mine. only one coming out of the magneto/flywheel and that goes into another wirer thing. i will do a shirt one vid when i can be botherd
depends where you live for parts, and what you want. i just go to frankston yamaha and order them. they tell me if they can get it and most of the time they can. but, alot of things are getting harder to get and more expensive. they cannot get a front tire for the bike. they called places like bridgestone and they said they dont make it :( better look after that tire haha. im always looking on ebay for parts too. make sure if u look on there to type GT80 and on another search GT 80.
well ive got the gt going good now i just backed the fuel petcock off a bit because it was running rich and it flies now. yeah i manage to mono this but they are more for onroad where as the mx is more for offroad.
well it's not exactly restored. this was the best it looked just after i had painted the engine and gotten my seat restored (it had split in half)
when i got the cycle it had been sitting in a shed for god knows how long and didn't run. it had no compression so new gaskets and rings also a re-hone and off she went. so yeah its nowhere near perfect and i spose i still thrash the old girl offroad quite regularly.
