  • On the 75 year aniversery (2009)of that type of car that were made between 1934 and 1957, there were 1150 traction's in Arras France, it was a bigger happening.

  • @traktion2 Hello Willem! Now that is a huge gathering! I would have to tie something to the car to find it! I could see myself wandering around for hours trying to find my car! :D Thanks! :D Jack

  • Oh and yes the knob that you see is to open the front window, a kind of airco......

  • @traktion2 Ah... Many American cars had that feature too, especially with the flat windshields! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Hello Jack you found my traction again in Old Town, Kissimmee, we covered the rear seat because we had our dog Bear riding with us. The "emblem" on top of the radiator is an " hirondelle" or swallow in English, original Robri accesoire. I hope to see you again in Old Town, my other TA just came back from Europe we had a 75 year aniversery of the Traktion Avant in Arras in 2009 We had shipped over the 11 normal from 1955.and had a raid in 2010 in Pas de Calais with 75 Traktions Greetings Willem

  • @traktion2 Hello, Willem! Great to see your car again, and get back in touch with you! Thanks for clearing up the mystery of the hood ornament! That must have been a dramatic event to see 75 cars like this on the road! I look forward to seeing you again at Old Town! :) Jack

  • Should have bought one of those back when I was living in Germany ('56- '61). They were cheap and it would have been a fun car to have at the Univ of MD. Oh well, hindsight is 20-20

  • @RayGettings Hey, Ray! Another person with perfect hindsight! :D I have the same feeling many times! Thanks! :) Jack

  • We say here " Der Gangster Citroen" hehe

An ugly but legendary European car.

    Great video document

  • @crazyurmel2 Hey, Pete! Great name! I'm sure the car brand was cherished by lots of owners over the years! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 hahaha

Ja, other typical "gangster cars" in films were here : black Mercedes middleclass ( 200 , 230 till 250 SE, 280 SE etc..) and in USA often black Lincolns and Cadillacs.

    But always black...hehe

  • @crazyurmel2 Hey, Pete! Yes, the black limo is mandatory...and so many funeral cars are black too...could it be more than a coincidence? LOL! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Very popular car during nearly 30years in France between the 30s and the 60s Citroen is always a pioneer for the technology of the cars This one have a reg 13 that s around Marseille.Nice video Jack P

  • @7784Patrick Hey, Patrick! I bet you have seen a ton of them in your travels! I was impressed with the technology too! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Nice, artful reflection of the roller coaster at 1:25 and on! Nice example of this; I had a physics professor in Australia who had a 1973 Citroen DS-23 Pallas; it, too had a bizarre shifter-placement, on top of the steering column; it was a 4-sp. semi-auto, as I recall. He could adjust the ground-clearance for rough roads; pretty comfortable-riding car!

  • @sortashaman That is a good point! The curved surfaces of this car make for very nice reflections! We had the DS-21 here, never in great numbers, but still can be seen from time to time. They had a hydraulic suspension system that performed wonders, as I remember! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Jack, Traction Avant (from the French words for forward traction). was aslo know as (depending on which engine the car had) the 11 - 15 CV, for it's taxable horespower rating. The gearshift sticking out of the dash controls a 4 speed transmission. Concerns over the lever dropping out of gear in 2nd and 4th (it's a "backward" H shift pattern) lead to an innovative safety feature. There's a lock that holds the lever in place in those two positions, it is released when the clutch is depressed.

  • @jferg7159 Hey, Joe! Thanks for describing the mechanics of that gearshift lever...innovative safety mechanism, for sure! Interesting that Chrysler Corporation and Corvair as well as the Pontiac Tempest developed shift levers for their automatic transmissions sprouting from the dash. Then they went their separate ways...pushbuttons for Chrysler and a regular shifter for Pontiac. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Jack are you sure that this is a 2CV? The grill looks more like a Traction Avant.

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Well noted! Corrected...got confused! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Hey, Jack, you know, this isn't a 2CV ... This is actually a Citroen Traction Avant (or 11CV), built 1934-1957 :) ... The 2CV is a completely different car and was built 1948-1990, but you are right about the 2CV's often being called “Deux Chevaux” !

  • @drewerz01 Hey, Mike! Thanks for that...I've corrected the copy! I should have remembered...the 2CV was a more basic car with removable doors and seats...

This was definitely upscale! Thanks! :) Jack

  • That's one of the nicest looking Citoens I've seen. Really like the styling on that one. Great vid Jack.

  • @RamblinAround Hey, Jeff! It was really well restored! Thanks! :) Jack

  • For a smaller car it looks very stately, thanks Jim:-)

  • @1DRock37167 Hey, Daryl! Indeed...it does have a stately presence..in keeping with the classic designs of the 30's. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Looks like something out of the 30's doesn't it?

  • @bimjales Hey, Jim! Yeah, prototypes were made before WW2...so its roots are prewar. However, it was mechanically advanced for its time with front wheel drive.

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • butt ugly but nice!!

  • @wardawg07 Hey, Warren! It really went back to an earlier era...the prototypes were made before the breakout of WW2. It was first produced in 1948, and had the unusual "traction avant" front wheel drive. It was produced into the 70's..not many cars can say that! Thanks! :) Jack

  • my uncle had a mid-70s 2CV in green!

  • @MasterSnowstorm Cool, Pete! I know of a Citroen driver's club in central Florida...they love their cars! Thanks! :) Jack
