My most vivid recollection of hearing this song was when my Grade 7 teacher played an LP with Tennessee Ernie Ford (best known for his "Sixteen Tons') singing it. But never did I expect to hear Tom Verlaine sing it! I'm glad he re-wrote lyrics for it. Seriously, it's a slightly tired chestnut, imo, in that it celebrates Old Testament style barbarism, something we still haven't graduated out of as a species. Perhaps an odd choice for a Cancer charity, even if rewritten. Sorry Tom.

Cool song, has a nice noir feel to it.

Very cool - is this the "Jericho" that is on Television's July 7 Sao Paulo setlist?

I wondered about the same thing, but no details ever emerged about that "other" Jericho from Brazil.
But since this was specifically recorded for the charity project "Pioneers for a cure" I'd say they aren't the same.
