It was great to meet them. All three seem like very nice, and passionate people. I enjoyed my interaction with them immensely and have quite a bit of respect for them and the show.
I'm curious to see the six episodes of Cagney and Lacey as Chris Cagney,I remeber at the time Meg Foster was axed,it was said shw "too tough" an dnow its "wasn't a good contrast to Tyne Daly",Sharon Gless was my gfavourite Cagney but I'd like to see the Meg Foster episodes and the movie pilot with Loretta Swit ,on DVD soon.

I got tired of this show. And in my opinion it perpetuated female stereotypes. Because what were these two always doing? They were always fighting!--which reinforces the stereotype that women can't get along with each other, particularly in the workplace. And they were always losing it or breaking down emotionally, playing into other stereotypes that women are too emotional and can't handle the stress of their jobs combined with their personal lives. Enough already.
Hmm, I notice you haven't posted any videos of your own. After seeing a couple of "grovesend" 's comments, it appears that this person just likes to run around making negative comments about the subjects of others' videos. Just another troll seeking conflict.
I also happen to disagree with this extremely shallow assessment of the show. Pity that "grovesend" missed so much of what was happening in the show....
I don't think I missed anything. I enjoyed the show initially but got tired of it because (in the last season especially) the writers began creating dramatic situations without staying true to the characters. Christine would never have been raped, and Mary Beth would not have hidden behind her chimney!
I'm with Jounster on this one. In the workplace of Cagney and Lacey, the two women clearly got on and were there for each other much more than anyone else in that workplace. They had a relationship which could process a heck of a lot. I see not constant conflict, but quite a lot of tenderness and teamwork. As to the last season, all tv shows suffer from that, it's a format, new writers come in, and you can ignore some episodes, see them out of order in re-runs etc. Bad things do happen to people
Your statement "Christine would never have been raped" is utterly ridiculous, as if being raped is something a character willfully 'does' or 'does not' do. That episode is a perfect illustration that such things can even happen to strong, healthy people. The scripts varied, with so many changes in the writing and production staff over the years. That the story lines remained as consistent as they did were, I believe, mainly a function of Barney's steady influence and guidance.
And in my opinion, the two women were not "always fighting," as you [grovesend] said. The stereotype you attribute to women more aptly describes a "typical" New York edginess that Tyne Daly honed with incredible skill. That Christine and Mary Beth were raised so differently was a brilliant source of conflict [necessary story element] and resolution on so many levels. If you watched, you would have noticed that there was always some kind of resolution, even if they agreed to disagree.
There's a lot more to it as well, but I thought the show presented women who did very well [as iralightman pointed out] at handling "the stress of their jobs combined with their personal lives." The fact that the characters also managed to balance their womanliness and their humanity within all of that only provided more dimension and nuance [objective correlative -- things being said without words, or implied in silence or action].
The scripts weren't always brilliant, but it was the acting in between the words that often brought them to vigorous life. I came for the premise of the scripts, but I stayed for the acting.
Great post, Jounster. I actually came for the theme tune, in all honesty. Big plot twists, and general storylines, grabbed me - the depiction of marriage was really powerful, and it was one of the first bits of mainstream tv that showed working women who were like women I knew. Then I've slowly spent more and more time with the series, mainly lately on early morning re-runs when my little boy gets me up. And, frankly, that's how most people view and are marketed to; in this case, successfully.
THE best show of all time.Sharon, tyne and barney are all looking great.I agree I miss this show so much.Hope they release all the seasons as there is so many people out there who love the show.
What's with Sharon's big glasses? and Tyne's fan?
