  • wonderfulllllll solossssssssssssssssssssssssssss suppeerrrrrr greatttttttt oufffffffffffffffffffff

  • quoting is an under used jazz solo tool

citar es una herrimienta jazz que no se usa basta

  • Take Five guapachoso urra !

  • le doy un premio al que pueda bailar eso

  • le doy un premio al que pueda bailar eso

  • how many stupid comments about the metering.... haha or jaja...Tito is the KING!

  • Aunque esta interpretada en 4x4 lo hicieron magistral, excelentes musicos.

Piro Rodrigues,te la devoraste en el solo de trompeta.

  • 1:23...and 2:45...nice Chameleon reference :D

  • Comment removed

  • should be called take four

  • Latin music in 5 beat pattern does not exist, since is intended to make people dance dance... this video is as great as tito.

  • Wow!

  • Take Five in 4/4!!!... bravo Tito.

  • so weird hearing this version, it messes with my head!

  • I dont care if it is 4/4 or whatever.....I only say its great....I like it better than the original

  • nothing to do with hating. You can;t dance to 5/4

  • @paredesg You can dance to a 5/4 you just end up on the wrong foot every measure!

  • The one and the only !!!

  • Chameleon (Hancock) at 1:25 ! XD

  • Happy Birthday Tito Puente April 20, 1923

  • Genial!!! pero me hubiera gustado que respetaran el compás de 5/4 en esta maravillosa obra, aún así, buen trabajo!!!

  • It is amazing how some do not like the rhythm pattern- not sure why. It is a good song for ppl unfamiliar with this type of beat to learn to hear and appreciate it.

  • 5=6 SUCKS. This was a stupid idea. Just like the louzy trumpet solo.

  • love it!

  • Une interprétation .............originale et très belle !!!!

  • preciso!

  • a brilliant mind... nothing compared to any musician around. like it..

  • in the world of music, creativity is valued very much. For those individuals who don't think out of the box, in the short time that we are on this earth, then irony will be your singularity.

  • It is ironic playing Take Five in 4/4 time. Then again, many latin beats wouldn't be all that feasible in 5/4. If I hear it and it works, then I'll reconsider. I still like this rendition of it nonetheless. It adds a distinctive flavor to it.

  • @robertsimms4507 Listen to Busca Lo Bueno by Ojos de Brujo. Precioso ! =D And it works great !

  • How can they mess up a beautiful like this??

  • @tedwyer Hey man i bet DAVE Brubeck is dancing to this. this is brilliant ! Just as the original. JUST ENJOY !

  • @tedwyer Why would you say that they mess up a tune like this? In my opinion it is easier to play it...

  • start of the tenor sax solo sounds lyk chameloen(sp)

  • @IchMagSechs He does this on purpose, the prove is on minute 2:45 .

  • Very creative...NICE!

  • Latin dudes hate playing in odd meters!

  • @Lehmann108 you know nothing about Latin Music

  • @Lehmann108

And Americans can't even understand "latin" rhythms when they are mostly all just 4/4 and 6/8...

  • @DJTrancenergy i dont see why they couldnt play in five. i thought most latin music followed the 12 123 or 123 12 feel. i dont think five four is that much of a stretch. its interesting how they did it either way i suppose.

  • @manzalicous its to even . the clave is like a 12 and a 123 as a triplet. playing this in five four waould make the clave all even, and in one measure. you would need to demonstrate an example to show the diff

  • @DJTrancenergy itz not the time signiture they dnt get but the emphasis of the beat. in american music the emphasis is on the 1 and 3, or in up beat tunes, 2 and 4. But in latin the emphaisi is on the clave.

  • @Lehmann108 and still their rhythms are some of the thoughest

  • @Lehmann108 Hey! Don't be hatin' on latinos. You try a latin beat in 5/4, besides, things like these really spice up pieces. Arrange a tune in a different meter and you'll see.

  • @gabo1604 it is still definitively take five. with some added bonus material. cool.

  • @Lehmann108 You obviously haven't listened to much music played by "Latin dudes" have ya? SMH...

  • @Lehmann108 are you kidding me dude??? you obviously never heard merengue or salsa before lol trust me, i 've played drums to them and i became a better drummer.

  • what have they done to the beat...?

  • @Edenhyde246 You can't play a 3-2 clave in 5/4.

  • genial excelente tema en una gran version .

como siempre sacas videos A 1 . gracias man

    desde lima - peru

  • Una versión extraordinaria del clásico de Dave Brubeck. Es un ejemplo preciso de cómo el jazz puede combinarse a la perfección con los ritmos latinos.

  • its latin jazz all u 5/4 people... the percussion stays in 4 obviously so that its consistently latin. Just listen to the melody, its not as if someone who listens to this for the 1st time wont know its brubecks cover. stuhh

  • Tremendo tema, lo escuche por primera en Boston por alla en 1987.....ke banda la del maestro!!!

  • Este Senor era un maestro que dejo un legado indiscutiblemente magistral.

  • Honestly this seems rather indulgent. I am not really fond of this interpretation.

  • hi! how can i have this videos?

  • the little sax solo in the middle of this song is the riff from chameleon by herbie hancook

  • @walrusandkoh yes! chameleon! i noticed that too

  • Waahnnsinn... :-)

  • Yeah and ironically it's just as hip in 4 as it is in 5. The band sounds so hot woo hoo!

XD

  • yaaaaaaaa !!!!

  • absolutely love it!!

  • Yeah, now it's more like... Take Four...

  • un 5/4 che diventa 4/4. spettacolare.

  • nananananana nananananaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    nananana

  • min 7.01 tito puente, first to do steps of tectonik...

  • taking the 5-beat out of a song called "take five"... that's what I would call irony

  • relax man....take five..

thats what i call a pun

    ;}

  • @Steerpikey

to be fair latin music is never in 5/4 time. that's the only reason they took it out

  • @drummerblade

Although technically it could if they instead of using the clave in 2 measures, used it in one. 2-3 clave or 3-2///but that would almost defeat the purpose of the clave

  • @Steerpikey TAKE EIGHT :D

  • @Steerpikey TAKE 8 :D

  • @Steerpikey

your right! but i prefer the 5/4 version. this one here sounds a bit soul less...

  • @Steerpikey yeah I was wondering...I was trying to count out 5, and figured out 4 fit better. Pretty cool twist on it though. Tito did say jazz can be boring and he tried to put his own twist on it.

  • @Steerpikey That cracked me up! LOL

  • @Steerpikey Who cares? Everybody knows this version ain't in 5/4 but even so it's really great, as good as the original.

  • Great stuff. Thank you, man.

  • ¡Mounstro!¡Genio!

  • Sonny Bravo my old piano teacher at piano folks!

  • Comment removed

  • deveria ser take four XD

  • Can spell better than you moron. Go supersize a meal for someone stupid.

  • Whatever PENDEJO

  • @MrRandomOwnage spell or create a shit. thats all. dont be sad, maybe one day you will play drums well

  • Thanks for posting from your private collection-love it more than I can say. I am an old guy who used to play sax in highschool and University. I had the good fortune to see the DBQ live at Stratford Festival in Ontario. Great.. They did Blue Rondo a la Turk-a steel from Bach-change of time signature etc-same spirit as Tito both were great expansions and development of outstanding existing materials--Long Live Bach-Brubec -Desmond and Tito-this isn't the Lords prayer don't be so hidebound! Enjoy

  • lo que siempre quise ver.

  • Sabor!

  • TITO WAS A GENIUS!!

  • Dibujeee Maestrooo!!!!

  • dave brubeck played this in 5/4 timing thu the name "Take Five"

I love Tito but man, dont take a great song in 5/4 and put it in 4/4. -__-

  • It's not like 5/4 is still something special like in the days of Time Out.

  • and why did I watch this vid? Because I wanted to hear Piro.

  • Dave Brubeck is one of the pioneers of jazz. If it weren't for him, people who make modern jazz music wouldn't make jazz at all because of his influence that he has had in the genre. I am a fan of modern jazz myself. Besides, the song is called "Take Five" thus it was made in 5/4 timing, meaning, that it sounds a little wierd to be in 4/4. personally, i didnt like it much, but Tito is pretty B.A. You, are just very ignorant.

  • haha lol. Dave Brubeck one of the worst pianists. Paul Desmond is OK and Morello could actually do more but because of brubecks style they all are like "stuck" . you know what I mean??

btw everyone knows that Tito is freaking gypsy and over cocky

exmple> tongue out, arms and chest wide almost goes to crowd, shakes the stick inn the air does nothing

  • well, it is a show? if u cant show off on stage where can u? ...lol as long as he doesnt make everyone else feel like losers showing off a little is ok...right? it actually does sound better in 4/4.

  • So where does that leave people like me who happen to dig both Coltrane and artists in other idioms such as hard-bop, free jazz, and fusion, but also happen to like Paul Desmond?

Like I used to think I was a music elitist, but fuck, you take the cake.

Also clave rhythms were originally played in 6/8, but later adapted to 4/4, so you can fuck off on that too, you can play a clave in any time signature you want.

On a less negative side I was digging the guy who kept quoting Chameleon.

  • ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?

  • awesome name...mrrandomownage...lol

  • sencillamente RECONTRASUPERARCHIBATIULTRAMEGAHIPER

    F A B U L O S O.

  • this it´s not take five. it´s TAKE SIX!!!!!

  • It's Take Five in 4/4 -.-

  • Congratulations

  • Whats your problem, you sayed its take six. Idiot, congratulations for making no sence at all

  • Jejeje, cool man! It was just a joke about song´s name and things like that in spanish. I´m sorry you didn´t understood.

  • La gente tiene muchas ganas de escribir palabrotas en un teclado

  • Love it; Brubeck's 'Take 5' took 5:13 give or take

    Tito's? At least 7

  • So what. What's your point. This is latin jazz ensemble.. It's bigger than a quartet.. sighs

  • For the Little Bus riders,then;

Dave Brubeck's chart of 'Take Five' was noted to 'take five' minutes to play.

Tito Puente's version, on the other hand, takes more than 7 minues to accomplish.

This irony is part of the charm of this particular, specific arrangement, and its performance, by this unique artist.

Let me know if you're still having trouble.

  • but aren't they both just swell?

    :D

  • Wonderfull

  • excelente Tito ....vives para siempre !!!!!

  • I had the pleasure to see him perform at the Denver Hilton, Colorado, baby these guys are grrrrreat!!!!!!! TITO "EL REY" RIP brother.

  • Haha, nice said, you got the point =)

Honestly, I'd be satisfied if you didn't call this take five This is so damn different from the godlike original, good in its own way, but just not take five.

  • whats up with the little cameleon riff? haha.. i like it...

  • Por eso es TITO PUENTE

  • ......More like take 4

  • Take five + Chameleon

  • Yeah, I heard that Chameleon riff in the sax player's solo and I thought it was pretty sweet.

  • how you going to do Take Five in 4/4??

  • like that.

  • Thanks for posting:)

  • LoL @ Tito and his theatrics! He's great.

  • Too much brass!!! Too loud, too loud. They sound like a dance hall band or a high school band at halftime of a football game.

  • I think the idea was that is should be more latin-like. But I do agree, the horns play too much, and they should play the same melody.

Apart from that, it really sounds great.

  • Damn. That was good.

  • el dandy rodriguez tremenda percusion

    chim pum callao

  • que temon dios mio extraordinario

  • yes!

  • new feeing~~

    so nice!! ^_^

  • jejejejejeje lo tubieron q hacer a 4/4 por el ritmo. pero me gusta mas asi. saludos de mexico

  • I like both versions equally.... there just have a different feel to each other ¡¡Saludos a mis hermanos latinos desde Ecuador!!

  • Take 5 in 4. Awesome! Go Tito!

  • I enjoyed this once I got past the fact that he's robbed it of what made Take Five unique. I guess he gives it another uniqueness though. I prefer the original.

  • Kiss my "culo". Yo! I'm going to enable the embed so you and other assholes like you can steal my videos & copy paste them to your own web pages elsewhere right ... Dream on stupid....

  • Dont try to understand this my european or american friend, this is not something that they can teach you on collegue, this is something that comes from within your heart, from the african roots, therefore your brain struggles trying to understand all this sublime sounds. And then you start saying things like (ohh it doesnt sound right, i lost my count was it 4 or 5) jajaja. thats your biggest mistake you thing music is about mechanics

  • 'scuza...is it Dave Brubeck or Tito Puente who has African roots???

    ...maron

  • what an outstanding performance!! Tito Puente and his band live forever in the latino culture and in our hearts. Those of you ignorant and unexposed idiots go smack your mother for bringing such an idiot into the world

  • Tito's our God of timbal! Shut up assholes!... Latin forever!!!

  • Right go hermano latino!

  • son todos una cuerda de...infelices que mal papel como criticos.

no saben de arte y menos de musica tito forever

  • thats sick

  • I Love it!!!!!

  • unidimensional pop jazz for Puerto students where Puente is an icon = easy quasi jazz to attract newcomers - sorry for Tito !

  • care to elaborate?

  • horrible vos pelotudo !tito rompe culos¡

  • how is that horrible, this is really talented musicians playing an awesome song!

  • Yes, the musicians are talented, song is awesome, but this interpretation is horrible. Lack of respect to the composer.

  • what the fuck do you know about latin jazz, fucking moron.

  • Up yours, with Tito Puente's timbal...

  • Tell them more, educate them my brother.

  • not even good, wtf.

  • ... I'm not sure I like the re-arrangement into 4/4 either. I was trying to count it in 5 and quickly got a culture shock, ... sounds nice... much easier to dance to which I guess is typical for latin style music.

When the piano goes into the merengue chords during Tito's solo it's unexpected and VERY pretty...

  • el tipo le pone el alma, asi debe ser!

  • This Take FIVE!!! Version in 4/4 is a profanation.

  • Comment removed

  • nice!!! buen video jazz8

  • Toca Tito toca! " El Rey del Timbal".
