i have a brand new shimano baitrunner 8000d it looks different from yours i guess cuz its newer but i have a rod rated 12-25 pound mono is this okay and i could set the drag lower so there is not as much preassure on the rod because the reel it has a large line capacity so the rod wont break and how do u catch your bluegill
I have a berkley 8 ft. rod, Line wgt is 10 to 25 lbs. would you recommend using this for flathead? Also, can you get the ugly stick tiger for spinning reels. Thanks
Nice vid man. I sometimes miss SoCal but love that I moved to MN. Lots of bog cats out here in the Mississippi and St. Croix. I do use a med action rod (shakespere intrepid for spin and a daiwa black widow for baitcasting with an abu 5500). I use 15 lb. main line on both and have caught several 30+ lb. and a couple 40 lb. cats. My opinion, a good drag is the most important feature!
Rods do not have line capacity, they have line RATINGS,and you do not catch fish OFF of rods, you catch them WITH them. If you want to take good care of your rods do not hook the hook in the ring of the eye, this will damage them.
u should try Gloomis rod u would love fishing with their rods only thing is they cost alot a rod u b looking for would cost around 300 dollars they good rod and life time warranty
I catch 30 lb flatheads on average and im 14 i dont have asses to a boat or nothing but if you cant set the hook try owner circle hooks cause they set the hook for you but you have to let the catfish really pull
great videos! i've recently started cat fishing and have seen several 25+lbs cats caught. I myself haven't caught the first one from not being able to set the hook. Any help on getting the hook set would be much appreciated. Thanks for all the info!
Great answers to those must asked questions! I'm not a cat man myself but I had had the oppertunity to fight a 51 lb flat head while bass fishing last night! We were fishing a hump in no less then 3 feet surrounded bt 25-30 ft of water next to a current. It took better part of 45 minutes to bring her in.

great video, but i think it is possible to use medium action rods if you want. i use a 7 ft. medium action ugly stick and i have pulled in 40+lbs. flatheads with that set up using the carolina rig. one tip i can give you is if your reel doesnt have a loud bait clicker, then turn down your drag very low and usually your drag running is loud enough for you to hear.
i agree. Nice vid! but, i use medium action rods and reels nothing even close to that size. i Use shimano reels (like the curado ect.) my rods are shimano, g loom, fenwick ect. I use eight pound p line flouro. the fight is awesome. no over powering the fish and lots of awesome runs. i have caught fish over fourty pounds!
