  • @bismillahmashallah i dont listen to the things these car magazines say anymore my dads charger srt8 never runs 0-60 under 4.7 secs and his lowest time was 4.54 only mod is a cai and thats supposed to run 5.1 so im sure this camaro could easily be high threes or mid threes and also 4.2 isnt slow anyway you aint gonna find nothing driving to beat a 4.2 unless your neighbors all have corvettes lambos and ferraris

  • Agreed. Weight is the biggest handicap a car can have. Sure they need to be safe but unless it's made by the Chinese* it just screams lazy engineering imo.

  • @91cannibal i agree but the competition is overweight too the shelby gt 500 is 3950 and the supersnake is over 2tons i wont even start on dodge.cars in the 80s and early 90,s didnt have to meet the safety regulations these cars have to nowdays not to mention 600+ torque will twist the front end of a regular car so alot of extra bracing is added.the only way to get lighter and withstand a collision is titanium,carbon fiber etc and now you have a mucle car a mucle car guy cant afford.

  • @91cannibal Have you test drove a 2010 camaro ss??? If so, then you wont be thinking about the weight of the vehicle... The LS3 packs a mighty punch...... I often wonder about the performance #'s these so called experts tally up..... I mean at the end of the day it really comes down to the driver and how fast he/she can get through the gears.... Theres always some unknown person out there who could prob post better times....

  • 0-60 in 4.2 is ballz fast. Should be good for a 12.6 1/4mi. BUT, the handling is crap. 66mph slalom is not that great, and .87g skidpad is lame.

  • 0.87 is decent, not great. My old, lowly '96 Beretta Z26 posts 0.89-0.90, and it's fwd, with wayy less power. A modern 2010 car like the camaro should be at least 0.90g.

  • The same car??? Did you even watch the video?? The SL574 makes 575hp over the 426 stock hp . . . that kind of makes a performance difference.

  • Not only is Edmunds GM biased so is Motor Trend. For some reason it seems like there in love with the Camaro and cant get there minds off of it to think of how great the Mustang is! The new 5.0 just came out of hiding today and is going to throw you into the seats more than ever before! And due to its lightness be prepared for a great handling car and a fast as hell track car for the weekend!

  • SO, it can only pull of those straight line figures with the drag radials (which mean pointless since in rain or any greasiness on the road its useless, it stops as fast as the average stock sports car, and it basically handles the same as a stock camaro....hmmm (rolls eyes)

Then what about the Acura NSX, which had forged pistons and TITANIUM connecting rods and is very capable of handling the boost from a twin turbo and is of course, well known for its reliability. Still think Honda sucks? YouTube search 2011 NSX. 550 horse from a 5.5L V10. Dodge makes 600 horse in the Viper with an 8.3L. Honda may not make lots of fast cars, but when they do, they kick MAJOR ass.

    I'm just sore because , (save for our very best cars) we generally need to go aftermarket to do what Ricers and 'Krauts do from the showroom.

    I think GM and Ford CAN do better. They just don't bother because we'll generally settle for a cheaper product. (imho)

  • I think that ford is doing a lot better, new engines like the ecoboosts, new 5.0l, new 6.2l, new 6.7l diesel, fiesta coming over, new fusion which is awesome, and loads of other new things. Ford is way more competitive than before and should be just as high as toyota or honda in stock prices in a couple of months.

    I feel that the crux of these discussions is road-going performance and your comment remind of two happy compromises.

    The Ford Mondeo took the market by storm and the Ford Focus RS is at the top of it's game.

  • That's true, the Camaro has had good sales. I stand corrected, and meant the comment more in terms of sarcasism. I'm a Subaru WRX person myself, and I'd love to own a camaro if it were somewhat more compact and livable to me. A compact V8 with an AWD? Would love it, but no one makes one that's not stupidly heavy (see the Audi S5).

  • I doubt you'll ever see a musclecar with AWD, even though that would be a great advantage on the classic Musclecar stomping ground; the Dragstrip. The way I see it, the cons far outweight the pros(quite literally)as far as musclecars go.

    I've always been a Corvette guy. Something I can take to the strip or the track, and like a musclecar, tuning and customizing it is relatively easy and cheap. Part of the musclecar appeal is turning it into something that you can truly call your own.

  • @ADD8oi Ford is coming out with a 305 HP V6, and a 412 HP V8 for the 2011 model year. The Mustang GT was already keeping up just fine with the Camaro and out handling it even before they are going add these new motors. The Camaro is going to get smoked by the new Mustang.
