LuLu is a Lou Reed album with Metallica put on there for advertising purposes. I actually like a few songs on there - Dragon, Mistress Dread, Junior Dad are all awesome tunes. @kotagrey unfortunatelly album sounds like that. The reason for that is "Loudness war". I remember I saw some article on Internet about crappy sound of that album. I think Lars Ulrich was trying to explain it as a new way of recording music in 21'st century. I heaard "Death Magnetic" in DTS version, but the sound was still distorted for me.
@kotagrey unfortunately, they compressed it and then raised the gain on each channel to the max of 50DB because they think that loud is what people want. (instead it makes it impossible to hear the individual parts of the song, it's just white noise.)
@kotagrey not completely sure, but I think the i-tunes version might not be this way though. (I imagine it would be a good album if it weren't for the nonsensical mixing.)

Thing is, half the reason I expect most people who don't feel Metallica have been the same since the early days is simply because the recordings are different. The older recordings have more background feedback, and it feels deeper somehow. Their newer work has very clean recordings, so it almost feels empty to nostalgia-fags. I, for one, don't care. This is fucking awesome.
Hands down probably the top song off of this remarkable album. I was a big skeptic before this album was released, but as soon as i heard this riff i knew something was to become of this album. I wouldnt exactly say that this song is trademark "old school" metallica, but more of the "new" metallica sound that we will more than likely hear in the future.

This is how they get you. You hear albums like this which are so similar to what they are truly good at "high energy heavy rock metal thunder" then you get hooked and they go a couple of three years and put out lame "ballad" type crap money makers then they do it again. This is how they get you. You hear albums like this which are so similar to what they are truly good at "high energy heavy rock metal thunder" then you get hooked and they go a couple of three years and put out lame "ballad" type crap money makers then they do it again. I had given up on them until they did this and st anger. didn't think Id ever hear them again with the whole lame "unforgiven" chapter. AWESOME ALBUM GUYS...garage days and kill em all reborn thanks....

@kiswjustin I gotta tell ya Bro, for a band that has been around since the 70's and has sold zillions and zillions of tickets and albums. for them to only have one subpar album (St.Anger And I say that with a heavy heart because I saw what they went through and they still came out with an album) its Fuckin awesome Metallica is once again proving to the world that they are the masters of metal and they always will be. good to see another fan!

I agree with your thoughts about St. Anger. Most bands wouldn't have even been able to put out a record. Props to them for doing it.

Personally, I don't think this album was too bad, but it's nowhere NEAR as good as stuff like Ride the Lightning, Kill Em ALl, or the No Life till Leather demo. And plus, everyone should hate on Metallica. Have you heard Lulu?

@ThrashMetaltillDeth I agree that it's not as good as their old stuff, I was just offering my perspective. And I have to disagree with "everyone should hate on Metallica." I have heard Lulu and I don't like it, just like you. But it wasn't a Metallica record for one, it was a Lou Reed record, and lastly I don't think that disappointing offering, nor any of their other disappointments cancels out the marvels they released back in the day. Those make up for the BS.

@ThrashMetaltillDeth So the guys that came out with 'Kill Em All', 'Ride the Lightning', 'Master of Puppets' and 'And Justice For All' don't deserve respect because they had a weak offering? If that's your opinion, you're certainly entitled to it, but I couldn't disagree more. Metallica is what got me into metal, so I could never just say "screw em." But that's me. Besides, people that turn their backs on bands because of one bad release are fair weather fans anyway.

Their new EP is good, their album with Lou Reed is bad. Their early stuff is good, later stuff is bad. THey aren't consistenet, and they take forever to write material. And they haven't only had one weak offering. THey've had 4

how the hell can the new LULU record sounds like Load and Reload, yet the official Metallica album Death Magnetic sound (as you hear while this video play) pushed way to hard mix wise and clip when the distortion kicks in. Such a weird production fiasco
