After EVE got it's new nebulae it rivals what is shown here - the planet belt/closer view beats eve though. Going to a normal asteroid belt in EVE will yield some more interesting lookin' stones though :P Im definitely excited for this
@LargusJett EVE sucks these days. Actually it started to suck since mafia-style player alliances got total control in 0.0 sec space and their NBSI policy. Wouldn't it be awesome to have small trade hub far from high sec where scoundrels gather to trade. Instead what we have is people camping in front of gates and stations indiscriminately killing anyone who goes through. Having the odd station in middle of nowhere is interesting, but now players are building outposts everywhere.
Atmospheres (at least on a planet like Earth) need to be about 10-20 x thicker. It adds to the immensity of the planet and universe if they are. Otherwise, they still feel like miniature models.
@Ghawyn Yeah well, that's the thing. In an earlier video like this they had in the description: "The planet has a realistic scale, and the atmosphere is as thin as Earth is in reality ( which is surprising to a lot of people )."
I don't know if you've ever played a realistic spaceflight simulator like Orbiter or something but an atmosphere really is surprisingly thin when you fly this fast (speed up) through it.
@Ghawyn Agreed, the planet's atmosphere juse needs to be alot deeper and then it would be perfect. Apart from that, the space to planet transition completely blew my mind. I really wasn't expecting it to be that awesome lol.
Hey guys, if you're like me and can't wait for this game, but still want to saturate your hunger for exploring the universe, then try SpaceEngine.
Works the same as infinity with procedural generation, you can explore every star in the galaxy (which can have planets) and even visit other galaxies.
@RandomPrussian1871 Actually there will be quests, but there will be variety. There will be the usual generic quests, but also surprise ones. For example you can be flying minding your own business and then a signal shows up on your sensors. You decide to go and check it out only to find an ambush BY NPCs (yea NPCs not players). Turns out these NPCs are from a faction whom you made enemies with in a previous mission you did and they wanted revenge.
I can't belief why the market for sci-fi games is so small and great games rarely get finished. The tech demo of Nexus 2 breaks my heart on a regular basis. Instead of developing crap like Duke Nukem, they should make those beauties.
The mechanics of this game is simple; You do not move around the universe, your engine makes the universe move around you! Less processing power needed that way.
When I was a kid and watched the sun go down, people used to say that the sunset is one of those wonderful God made things impossible to be recreated in any form by man, well at least until now.
This looks gorgeous, but here are nevertheless a few recommendations for improvement regarding the cockpit view: Animated pilot, interacting with panels etc. when you execute your keyboard-commands AND the option of dampening the (overhead) light inside the cockpit, so you can really experience the blackness of space.
thumbs up if you want the developers to see these suggestions (can't wait till its release!!)
I have followed the development of this engine for some years, and just decided to come back, see if there were any news updates, and watch this video again. One day, I'm sure, they will release it. Even if the project dies, you must remember the amount of time it's taken for them to make this. It would no doubt be passed on to somebody else. They wouldn't just throw it away.
The ship models are really tacky looking and the video could've done without the repetitive piece but everything looks awesome, wonder if there's going to be mod support to add new spacecraft and possibly add some cool cities to discover on lost jewels. My body is ready I want this kind of game!!
@CamNM1991 yeah, imagine if they made the engine opensource, and allowed people to design entire planets in detail, possibly so that the player could move around on them and so forth. The people designing the planet surfaces could then send it to the original developers, and if they liked what they saw, they could release it as an official patch. sure, the game might take up a lot of space, but hell, I wouldn't mind using 200 gb on the ultimate space-experience.
@FredeGF and as a reward, the people designing these stellar/planetary objects in their spare time could get to choose the name of the planet (of course, again the developers would have the final word) - who wouldn't wanna have a planet, used by thousands of gamers all over this planet, named after them? I think a concept like this would catch on fire, and the scope of this game would be endless.
Well all the planets in Infinity will be procedurally generated, so you don't need 200 Gigabytes to make an entire galaxy... but if i understood stuff right, the engine (INova, not Infinity) will allow you to design your own planets. But you will be able to build cities in this game(infinity).
@OhaidereHowAreUTday Kewl. Do you know if you're going to be able to interact with these cities, other than just bumping into them? I've read somewhere that they weren't planning on making it possible to go outside the ship. It could be nice if they made character cumstomization, and allowed your character to walk around in limited areas, say, docking stations.(like in EVE)
Another neat feat. was if the gravity and atmosphere of the planets affected the stiring of the ship
@FredeGF Building and administrating cities, yes, walking around in them, not so much. CCP's walking around was built from the ground up for an mmo they're working on about vampires, and it’s cost them more than infinity's entire development budget is ever going to be.
I've been watching you guys sine 08, this promises to shake the foundations of Scifi/Space MMO's I'd do anythign to be a part of it, or help see it come true!
@SuperYouUber there is a reason you dont see games being made with that just yet, and the way they have set this game up will use an engine that works a bit different most likely - it will have a way of allowing the transition of one place to another without it being too gpu intensive.
how to is start playing the game? I have downloaded version 2.2, registered for an account and put in Player account name- and password- then it says invalid name or password
The problem is that way too many few people like games like this, hence why games of this genre are such a rarity
Games like this deserve attention, for what they are, you can explore other worlds, fight entire fleets of enemy ships, you can even explore entire galaxies and still have enough to have beautiful graphics, and i find that amazing, i never knew a game could be able to do that, and that's just beautiful
I...Love...This...SO MUCH. And I fucking HATE MMORPGs!
This represents so many dreams in the gaming world, please for the love of God show us that the advances in graphics and other technologies were not just for COD idiots. Let us create our own stories, our own empires...our own games.
Imagine if this was an RTS and you could begin by making an economy on a random world, mining the resources of the planet, building cities, factories, and shipyards.
Then you build yourself a massive fleet of ships and send them off to make war on a distant world. You could choose to either nuke the entire planet from orbit and wipe it clean of whatever poor bastards are living there, or you could send down a massive land army and occupy the planet, using the local populace as slave labor.
@MisterHeizenberg You will be able to build stations and colonize planets and have a player driven economy both in space and on planet. If you're rich enough and have a large enough corp/alliance, you and your guildies can occupy space and own surrounding planets and build an empire (even whole cities) and even jump gates to instantly connect your homespace to the main NPC space (not 100% sure about this onw). You can even hire NPCs to do your dirty work but not as effectively as players.
you dont need to pay 100 bucks for the exploration part. there is a thing called space engine which is essentially the same thing. what will be interesting is the gameplay mechanics they put into this

does this have actual space flight aerodynamics (for a lack of a better term)? As in, for example, while flying and you make a turn your aircraft will still continue going in its previous direction until your thrusters correct it. like that old game, ASTROIDS. It would be cool if you model aerodynamics relative to each planet as well, depending on its atmospheric composition and gravity
@forumrabbit i see. i though space was a vacuum and all objects would maintain their momentum. not an expert on the subject though, so im not doubting you
@lenowin and because stars have this weird tendency to cast light, you are ALWAYS in a particle field. yes, there is friction in space, even if it is just a very small amount.
Take my money. All of it. Every last cent. I don't need food, I've stored up plenty of fat to survive for...maybe a week. Afterwards, there are shoes, clothing, and doors to eat.
@rattoh It's the seemless planetary/space transition that makes this game very good, technically.
Actually textures etc are not really difficult, they are just images displayed and wrapped over objects. How good they look really depends on the state of modern hardware. The better it is, the higher res textures can be.
give this to lucas arts so they can put this in battlefield of swtor. This is exactly what the people complaining about the space situation would love.
@DubstepForTrueMen if you actually go on infinity's site (fl-tw dot com) you'll see a post about this video, and the developer placed two links to this (part 1) and part 2 video from shockwavesurfer. I don't think ''infnitysupport'' is original. There are many accounts like that, eg. ''infinitythegame''. THIS is the original, first uploaded vid and it has more views because its linked on the site :)
It doesnt matter anyway, both show the same thing.

Other than the annoyingly over-repetitive music, this was amazing. I think I'd agree with the 'release this demo, charge $5' comment. I'd buy this for $5 and watch as you make an EVE Online killer.
Wow, i'm not a huge MMO fan, actually i have't played may in my life. But i love Sci-Fi and i love the Cosmos and exploring it, this looks epic. I'm also a huge fan of graphics and these look sublime to say it's a tech demo. I thought the planet was a backdrop then he fucks me over by going to it 0.0
I've read a bit up on it too and it look like it could steal hours of my life xD
As soon as this is ready im am giving this a go for sure!
guys there is something similar to this that has been released you can do some of the same things. it lacks a space ship but yo can explore the universe and go to any galaxy and any star and land on any planet,

i dont get whats so impressive it's not like the earth has any vegetation to render to make it impressive
rattoh 4 months ago
@rattoh It's the seemless planetary/space transition that makes this game very good, technically.
Actually textures etc are not really difficult, they are just images displayed and wrapped over objects. How good they look really depends on the state of modern hardware. The better it is, the higher res textures can be.

give this to lucas arts so they can put this in battlefield of swtor. This is exactly what the people complaining about the space situation would love.

This would be amazing if the technology was advanced enough for a dual monitor glasses and running this game on it in first person cockpit view.

Why does the official version of this have alot less views?
DubstepForTrueMen 4 months ago
@DubstepForTrueMen This is the official version.
On a side note: 100k views in a few days? AFAIK it was around 300k when I've seen it a few days earlier.

@Kvokki the original is by InfinitySupport's channel, the people who are actually developing thi.

Rather, watch as I-Novae makes an EVE Online killer.
