  • love it, would love to see/hear the whole set. Saw these guys in Hamilton, New Zealand in early 1970's. Best live band ever

  • Feeling old? :-)

  • a voz deste cara é do ........

  • Fact is (according to Noddys book) that Slade had packed up at this time but was persuaded to do just this one more gig because Ozzy had pulled out. They didn't really want to, espescially Dave Hill was hard to convince but they went down a storm and it set the band going again to a NEW audience. They continued touring to 84 and recording to 91. Slade II are still going strong with Dave Hill and Don Powell + two new guys. KEEP ON ROCKING

  • FANTASTIC!!!

  • Superlatives don t cover the epicness of this one-off band. best rockband in the history of pop.

  • seen them 72 in poland live,amazing!

  • I was there that day, it was a totally amazing set.

  • slade r fukin magic,,,,luv punk rock,,,but slade r the bollocks,,,,

  • @calboy64 i love old punk and the new punk/hardcore but slade r the dogs

  • Greatest rock and roll band ever! (i mean the 'old' slade)

  • I saw them in 79 at Plymouth Uni, they were the best live band ever - and sooooooo fucking loud!

  • @jackHNv I was there.

  • @alfred38uk I've still got a recording of that gig, I had a cassette recorder with me!

  • @jackHNv My daughter would ask what a cassette recorder was, whats the sound quality like?

  • Blizzard of oz had pulled out and ozzy recommended them to replace them. Whitesnake were headlining and slade blew them away ! Pissed coverdale off big time !

  • @LucyEmma21 Hahaha awesome

  • @LucyEmma21 yeah we begged em to do merry xmas lol but they wouldnt.i was about 50 feet back from the stage next to the barrier between the 2 stages.it was brilliant the crowd went nuts dont think noddy could believe it i remember he said youre all fuckin mad lol

  • @LucyEmma21 Hi. Slade were definitely the sensation of Reading '80, but I don't think Coverdale was pissed off. Slade played on the day UFO headlined, not Whitesnake, and my tape of the set has Phil Mogg in his usual jovial form! I think Def Leppard, though, were a bit disillusioned when they were forced to follow Slade!

  • @GreenerHill Not true. sorry.. Slade performed on Sunday before Def Leppard and Whitesnake who followed as headliner. They were awesome. Sadly most judge today how they look and cant how they sounded live. UFO were a bit angry at having been told to cut the set short as they had over run but Mogg ignored the call and the band was heavily fined. Awesome weekend with possibly the greatest line up of rockers ever in an English field. Ill never ever forget it. SLADE WERE ON FIRE.

  • @TheShotgunslade Whoops, sorry, I got it wrong (blush!). Thing is, Slade played at Donington a year later, and I thought Whitesnake invited them. I've seen a picture of Holder and Coverdale having a laugh together at that gig. Thanks for the info about UFO at Reading in 1980. One story is that Mogg went for a walk in the audience during Shoot Shoot (and it's longer than the usual 4 minutes on the tape).

What a line-up, though, with Gillan and Rory Gallagher too. Wish I'd been there! :)

  • @GreenerHill

Slade were supposed to go on AFTER Def Leppard, Elliot et al thought they were the bigger "stars" & insisted Slade went on first. BIG mistake they had to follow one of the best live acts ever & were left looking a little shame faced.

  • @LucyEmma21 I'm glad it did.

  • @LucyEmma21 You forgot to mention one thing. Afterwards, every band after them was bottled. And the band after..... Def Leppard! Everyone wanted to hear Slade. So glad this moment exists!

  • Supported them in Leeds and Huddersfield, and the comments are right.... Your ears bleed....LOTS!!!!

  • The best live band ever......!!!!!!!

  • O SUCESSO DO SLADE NESTE FESTIVAL SE DEVE À COMPETÊNCIA DA BANDA E AO AMOR DO PÚBLICO PELO ROCK'N'ROLL. EXCELENTE!!!!!

  • They did a warm up gig for this at Leeds Uni.

It was so loud that you couldn't tell what song they were playing.

I was bricking it that my ears has gone, I was going to see Rush for the first time 2 nights later.

  • @ianw2112 If it was a closed area I bet you were deaf xD If they were rigged for a big outside concert they probably had a few watts with 'em. I wish I was there with you

  • @ianw2112 Wow! Looks like the boyz were preparing for a battle at reading. I saw em at Manchester University and the audience were smoking blow and I wet myself with the impact the mayhem and the volume caused those young progfessors.. I then realized why they had never been asked to appear on the Old grey whistle stop. I was pushed up against a bass bin and the left side of my face was actually numb for two days. They had an awesome P.a. system. LIVE they had volume like Motorhead.

  • FANTASTIC! Best live band ever! Is this the live performance everyone is still raving about??? Thank you for uploading

  • @proslade I believe this was Slades comeback performance and they blew the minds on the people that thought Slade was gone

  • @ACDCFan15Swe YEP, I think they replaced Ozzy.....a big Slade admirer..... but the sound of this live performance, impeccable...........nuff said. Thanks!

  • @ACDCFan15Swe ABSOLUTELY,, BLEW EM AWAY,WELL WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?

  • @proslade yep. 30 years on and were still waiting for a full unedited version of his performance to be released
