I love this song. I would love to see the making of this or a color version (mainly because I love that magazine cover where Daniel is wearing this outfit and omg.. there was never a sexier man. Ever.) But yeah.. Love this. Love them. Miss Daniel.. and this voice. :(
This song shows some of his greatest melodic acrobatics. I also appreciate the shift between general song structure from every album to the next. Wonderful stuff.
i love silverchairs older stuff. who dosent. but when i first bought the diorama album i was blown away. its an album u can put on and just let play from start to finish. also it was produced by the dude who produced the beach boys album. diorama to me was like silverchair growing up. the orchestra sounds awesome 2.didnt care to much for there latest album tho. enjoy
I think people who aren't into this just aren't sensitive enough to grasp or understand it. If you think this doesn't have passion then i don't think you understand what passion is...listen to his vocal melodies, they're insane- not too many people could write a song/album like this. It's timeless stuff and will be remembered a long time after frogstomp is forgotton (i like frogstomp, but it doesnt nearly have the depth this kind of songwriting does)
Interesting video! I found this because I was looking at Guy Pearce's IMDB bio, and saw that he was in this video.
Just as a film nerdy point of interest...many people have pointed out a similarity between Smashing's Tonight, Tonight video, and this one. Similar eras, yes, but the inspiration is different. Smashing's video is inspired by the Georges Méliès's silent film A Trip to the Moon - which I'm pretty sure that you can watch in its entirety here on YouTube. I believe...
yeah...i can accept that they can change..evolve...but into better musicians.. I can respect that they are not playing the same 5 chords in every song..but all those songs were so full of passion and these...are..well...average elevator music. Silverchair was large and like a soundtrack for my teenage years and I would of just hoped that they would of tapped into..well something more intense..not angry, persay... just real...sorry...this shit just don't grab me,...ya dig?
Technically these songs are full of the most passion of any of their albums. The songs lyrics are the most personal and the most well written. I'd say Daniel writing about himself rather than things he heard about on the news as a kid is a little more real.
you have to accept they have to change. you cant expect daniel to sing those angry songs with his long hair like during the days of frogstomp. he is already 30, not 15.
They just came out with one. I love this shit right here and there old stuff. Don't care what any of you can't let go of grunge grunge tough guys think.
silverchair are a band that, if you are a true fan, you can grow with. you listen to them doing frogstomp and freak when your an angry teen, then your tastes and acceptance of things matures and you broaden your mind.
things started to change with neon ballroom, then this song from diorama really cemented the bands diversity, and now we have young modern. its brilliant, and really i u claim to be a fan you should have an open mind to all their material
I love older Silverchair (when they were teenagers) Now that they have grown up they've made a decent switch in their musical style. I'm glad the angsty teenagers are gone.
But This.... Come'on. I mean I'm 27 yeard old and this sounds like a lullyby. This is not for me and it's not that i don't like softer songs like, Cemetery, or abuse me, or ana's song. I hope they get out of there set of pop and join back on the side of metal and rock.
If it's not for you than listen to another band. Don't act like they should change back to their old sound to suit your tastes. They were teenagers when they were heavier they an change f they want This is still very 'silvechair" just more refined. It's not THAT drastic
I used to think silverchair was a rip off of nirvana. But I went back to listen to there older albums and found out that there not like nirvana at all. Purely Original. The grunge movement at the were looking for anyhing with a raspy sound and raspy voice heavy and catchy enough to fill the void of Kurt Cobain's death. There music had a grunge element. not a nirvana. If it wasn't for Nirvana, Silverchair would of never got therer fame and only there fame, because of the grunge movement.
AAHHH this song is so fucking good. It's so HEAVY, isn't it? When it first kicks in with that chunky distorted guitar and the orchestra backing it up. It makes me feel so good!
fukin awesome. when i first heard this compared to their grunge style i was like ...is this really silverchair?what the freak!..anyway good freaky stuff.i still miss their old grunge style only because their newest album is abit too conformist for me.
ok i am getting really really sick and tired of reading comments on silverchair videos and the only thing i ever read is how much theyve changed and how bad they sound now
every band changes!!!!! ok theyve matured and developed their sound get over it!!! they r writing music that they want 2 write can't u jsut accept that?
i luv all of silverchair's albums purely cause of how unique they each r and how much their sound changes and contrasts
You know the great thing about Silverchair, they came to the US and they left the US and weren't choked into conforming to the machine that is the US public. I'm glade they were able to travel down a road of artistic evolution, even if I prefer the older music, I'm gald they weren't forced to make "what sells" over here.
Every album was vert personal to the writer, so if the writer changes, how can the albums themselves not change? Frankly, the new alubms seem to have a greater amount of maturity, which also reflects the fans themselves, those that have seen die-hard fans since Frogstomp should plainly be able to see the progression they have made
I am only 16 and i love all albums i think each one tells a story of where he is out mentally and i think i apreicate all of hes work as much as the next silverchair fan, and how are people my age ment to be a fan scince frogstomps if we were 3 at the time no one would get the lyrics until at least 12. Go silverchair they fucking rock (all albums)
Cmon man. Please! You are probably like 14 years old. I mean, how can you even remember this music, you were like 3 years old at the time. 'Indie movement', was a far while before mate. Get it right next time young one!
Who are you talking about if you don't mind my asking ? There are still quite a bit of us older fans that listened to Silverchair when FrogStomp came about. Does age really matter anyway ? Anyone can become fans at any time.
hahaha...if it started the indie movement..than i wish they had never released it....all these emo bands are fucking gay ....silverchair is awesome...accept for young modern ...but maby thier next album will be better...
post-frogstomp Silverchair sounds really elegant, with all the violins and all.
His Australian accent is more apparent on the following albums.
I also think "Young Modern" is not "completely different". its more of a sequel to Diorama. Theyre albums are like stories. the first two are the angry teen phase compared to the adulthood of the following three.
It seems grungechair stopped short while Orchestralchair continues. (although YM is still pretty heavy indeed)
I'm no liking all this Beatles slagging because let's face it without the beatles there'd be no silverchair but anyway more to the point.
I now appreciate Silverchair more since I've heard off the stuff from diorama, because before (like most people) I just thought of them as a Nirvana rip off but I now respect Daniel for taking a chance with music, people like that are real geniuses, sometimes it takes people a long time to catch up with what artist's like that are doing.
lol fuck the beatles... you get stoned on acid once make a video and everyone else is a pretender or a copycat... fuck that...
the only good beatles music is the few hilarious ed sulivan songs they made..other than that *puke puke* daniel's vocal range + his ability to grind his voice makes him more tallented than most...
I think Daniel looks great with this hair! Great song!
But yes I do prefer their older stuff. Diorama was not my favorite of their cds but I do like it. Now Young Modern on the other hand I really dislike x0
everyone chucks in the beatles wannabe criticism on everyone these days! its too easy. I personally cant see the beatles in any of this, not even Sgt Pepper. Daniel just wanted to experiment with sharps and flats, and its what the whole Diorama album is about. I think its beautiful.
Diorama is technically, melodically and idea-wise the best I've heard so far of this band. It is certainly more than a collection of songs, it is a journey, an escape into a place more beautiful than the world we live in. It is more epic, gorgeously produced and beautifully instrumentated: Diorama is simply excellent.
Dude! That sounded like a professional review haha. You're good at that. And 100% right too, Diorama took early silverchair fans, turned them around and made them think about music in an entirely new way.
Estoy de acuerdo en que Diorama es el mejor discon tanto lírica como musicalmente pero el disco que sentó las bases del sonido de Silverchair fue Neon Ballroom.
Who cares what technical genre the music fits in, as long as it's good, quality music. Nobody can deny that this is good stuff. The voice, the orchestra (especially the trumpet work) it's all fantastic. And it's a great song.
I think people that judge an album purely by how heavy it is are complete morons.
And although Silverchair's old stuff is great, Diorama is by far their best album to date. They'll never top it. It doesn't matter if people dont like it as much as the older stuff, at least they tried to be different. Doing another neon ballroom or freakshow wouldve been predictable and boring
Thank you collectfew....thats all i was trying to say, some people cant handle opinions that vary from their own.....oh and by the way layne my friend....just because you are the most active with emotion while in your teenage years doesnt mean you have the capability to process and express those emotions. Most teens confuse major emotion, fear for anger, sadness for joy and so on...........put down the pipe, pick up a book...
americans are ignorant. they think they were the main country of the war and that they have the great weapons. russia would pwn you asses into the fucking ground. Americans will burn and die in the industrial slop that they knowingly and willingly spill into the earth, fuck america, fuck them up their stupid asses. the only thing i beleive about the 911 conspiracies is that america is the only country that is fucked up enough to do something so fucking stupid, all americans will die, fuck you.
wow relax! if you look at schools, media and politics over there it's just really hard for people living there. I guess there are just as many idiots as everywhere else, it's just easier to be informed and educated when you live in a smaller country where you can overlook political issues and rely on a working social system.
their all dumbfucks, i fucking spit on that shit piece of land. americans are so fucking dumb that their patriotism is based on americans fighting eachother, how fucking stupid is that? fucking dumbasses, america sucks balls, a jihad on all americans, they are all little bitchess that love to suck cock. so, in conclusion, america cannot be trusted, russia is comming to get ya, bitches love, SID
ps fuck america, Charles Manson is the only dignified american.
diorama sold 500,000 copies in australia, and barely any in america, why is this so?. Because americans are ignorant assholes who cant apreciate intellegent music, because they are barley intellegent, they are just a bunch of ignorant little fucks that deserve to be shot. america is a shithole of a country that is taking this world with it. so called " war crimes", how many inoccent people were killed in Hiroshima. george bush is dumb, and the american people were fucked up to ellect him twice
They didn't have any time to promote the album, with Daniel Johns suffering from reactive arthritis. I doubt it has anything to do with ignorance and war.
that doesn't make anyone a fag. It makes you a complete idiot to call someone dude and fag when you know not someone. We all know what assuming does....they are still amazing btw
not a bad song......love how they have an orchestral sound incorporated in it. Im a huge silverchair fan and love how they're branching out into different genres today. Daniel is amazing and talented in every song he's written. Old Silverchair in my opinion is better just cuz I'm a fan of harder music but I do have a soft side and this totally hits the spot. Good job guys, keep on rockin'!!!!!!!!
people so ignorant asking about all this grunge stuff if you truly were a fan of silverchair you'd appreciate them. That's the trouble with society everyone is monogamous and aren't open to new ideas and phases.
this`s the best silverchair song

This is the best music video ever. I think I like it even better than thriller.

Estoy de acuerdo en que Diorama es el mejor discon tanto lírica como musicalmente pero el disco que sentó las bases del sonido de Silverchair fue Neon Ballroom.

Wow there sure are a lot of people who aren't familiar with Diorama! That's Silverchair's best album, musically and lyrically.

Who cares what technical genre the music fits in, as long as it's good, quality music. Nobody can deny that this is good stuff. The voice, the orchestra (especially the trumpet work) it's all fantastic. And it's a great song.

Silverchair é uma das melhores bandas que ja existiu!!!
palestra18 4 years ago
I think people that judge an album purely by how heavy it is are complete morons.
And although Silverchair's old stuff is great, Diorama is by far their best album to date. They'll never top it. It doesn't matter if people dont like it as much as the older stuff, at least they tried to be different. Doing another neon ballroom or freakshow wouldve been predictable and boring
thecollectfew 4 years ago 3
Thank you collectfew....thats all i was trying to say, some people cant handle opinions that vary from their own.....oh and by the way layne my friend....just because you are the most active with emotion while in your teenage years doesnt mean you have the capability to process and express those emotions. Most teens confuse major emotion, fear for anger, sadness for joy and so on...........put down the pipe, pick up a book...

I like their new stuff more than their old stuff. Brilliant artists this bunch. Listened before their first album ever hit American radios.

americans are ignorant. they think they were the main country of the war and that they have the great weapons. russia would pwn you asses into the fucking ground.
XtremeSID 4 years ago
WTF???????
I don't understand the connection between this video and your comment.
Must be because I'm just a dumbfuck American who didn't even vote for George Bush.
brightandsparkling 4 years ago 3
wow relax! if you look at schools, media and politics over there it's just really hard for people living there. I guess there are just as many idiots as everywhere else, it's just easier to be informed and educated when you live in a smaller country where you can overlook political issues and rely on a working social system.
eatingcandy 4 years ago
their all dumbfucks, i fucking spit on that shit piece of land. americans are so fucking dumb that their patriotism is based on americans fighting eachother, how fucking stupid is that? fucking dumbasses, america sucks balls, a jihad on all americans, they are all little bitchess that love to suck cock. so, in conclusion, america cannot be trusted, russia is comming to get ya, bitches love, SID
ps fuck america, Charles Manson is the only dignified american.
XtremeSID 4 years ago
diorama sold 500,000 copies in australia, and barely any in america, why is this so?.
XtremeSID 4 years ago
They didn't have any time to promote the album, with Daniel Johns suffering from reactive arthritis. I doubt it has anything to do with ignorance and war.

not a bad song......love how they have an orchestral sound incorporated in it. Im a huge silverchair fan and love how they're branching out into different genres today. Daniel is amazing and talented in every song he's written. Old Silverchair in my opinion is better just cuz I'm a fan of harder music but I do have a soft side and this totally hits the spot. Good job guys, keep on rockin'!!!!!!!!
nirvana00169 4 years ago 5
I prefer Older Silverchair to the newer, but I still like it all..
Love the vocals and orchestral element sin this song..

people so ignorant asking about all this grunge stuff if you truly were a fan of silverchair you'd appreciate them. That's the trouble with society everyone is monogamous and aren't open to new ideas and phases.
