  • The stuff DS can do with freddiew....imagine.

  • one of the coolest scenes in clone wars was anakin vs. asajj ventress in the rain, with the steam rising off their swords everytime the rain hit them.

also, lightsabres are not real. so it's all kind of moot after a point.

  • i contstantly hear people say the only way to stop a lightsabers blade is using the force otherwise it would keep going is this true? if so how does han solo use the light saber to disect the taun taun in empire strikes back

  • @tsartango Lightsabers are not held by the force, but by a magnetic field maintained by the hilt itself.

And just to add to the "is it canon" debate, there is a page on wookiepedia where it is described how you can say what is canon. Movies>books>old marvel comics>etc.

And lightsabers don't short out in rain, only when submerged. And that is if the lightsaber has not been built with a "bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse" which allows the blade to work underwater

  • @tsartango

Lightsaber blades have huge inertia, but it is possible for non-forceuser to operate and even fight with it.

  • where u get the lightsbers like tht not the glow one the other ones

  • @wolfzlinkinpark2 You basically make them yourself.

  • @GunniTheGunman yea lol i figured that

  • where u get the lightsbers like tht

  • Water doesn't effect he Lightsaber... all of the vulnerable parts are protected by it's outer shell, and the crystal which emits the *Blade* of the saber, is unaffected by the water, because as everyone knows, the Lightsaber *Burns* through things rather than Cuts through them, in other words, the water would rapidly turn to steam and simply leave the saber. And if the saber was off, I presume there is a lid of sorts that covers the tip of the saber, which is why the hole is black in the movies.

  • @TehHotRoD neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerd nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooo llllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiiifffffffffffeeeeeeeeeee!

  • hey, what video effects program did you use in the editing of this?

  • @NotCareBear Dude, he's not whining he's making a point. Calm down.

  • i have a question, how the hell is water supposed to short out a light saber, the blade is probably 15,000C plasma that would do what it did, turn water into steam, its called science!

  • @draconia47 Stop winging. I'd like to see you do better than this.

  • Lightsabers can use a special type of crystal to avoid shorting out in water, obi-wan's lightsaber has been confirmed to have this since episode 1, jedi like kit fisto use it. -my two cents

  • do u have a vid that shows how to make a cheap or non cheap lol lightsaber effect

  • best amateur light saber special effect yet!

  • hey everyone, a lightsaber isnt real. just letting you know that. it doesnt matter what a real lightsaber would do because there isnt one. it was a great special effect idea on their part and your all just jealous because you didnt think of it first lol

  • @planetary109 Lightsaber is meant to be made of plasma held in a circuit with the force. The water breaks that circuit. But anyway, why bring it back up. It's been ages since posting the first comment.

  • Hey look, it's fbTravis from 6 in the afternoon! lol

  • this effect are on adobe or another site?

  • Its the small details that make it cool. Awesome stuff on the FX guys.

  • Good good video i took animation and wish i could do this stuff.. Also Lightsaber would work in water if you include EU since in the 3D Clone wars series A lightsaber is used underwater while swimming up to cut a droid and since its Directed by Lucas i assume it counts.

  • @MultiRandomGamer EXACTLY!!! George Lucas' word is true, he can say whatever he wants and it becomes fact, so go George Lucas, and Boo the Lucas Haters!

  • Comment removed

  • yes wookiepedia is fan made, but is all the information is brought from the books and comics created by lucas. surely lucas is there for the god of star wars and what he says goes.

  • @lambyjr Lucas doesn't write the books or the comics and on many occasions in the prequels directly contradicts what's been established in the books/comics.

Yes, what Lucas says goes, which is why only the six Star Wars films can be considered official canon. And lightsabers shorting out in water is never established in the Star Wars films, and in fact it's clear that they do not do so.

  • @DorkmanScott kit fisto's was specially designed, so we still don't know

  • @DorkmanScott or rather specially designed to be functional while submerged

  • @lambyjr There's no good reason for the blade of a lightsaber to "short out" at all. Ever. It's just focused light. Last time I checked, light doesn't short out form anything. If the handle was submersed in water then the powered components may be affected and it wouldn't work just like any other powered device, but the blade itself would just be hot and heat the water.

  • @lambyjr Put a microwave in a swimming pool and it would short out. But put a cup of water in a microwave and it will heat up the water and make it boil. Same principle applied to a lightsaber, the handle wouldn't work underwater, but the blade itself would just make water boil. Fits wookiepedia's description and this video.

  • @lambyjr Not all info comes from books and comics, and because some does, that doesn't mean that someone didn't come in and make something up. Remember, the books don't and info to wookieepedia, people do.

  • @lambyjr everything on wookiepedia is canon in the SW universe except for the things that say non canon

  • sorry to be a star wars nerd but water shorts out lightsabers.

  • @lambyjr Then explain the fight scene between Obi-Wan and Jango Fett in Episode II.

  • @DorkmanScott "All lightsabers, unless specially made would short out when they were in water, due to rapid chain reactions and the instant overpowering of water on the blade. In rain, a lightsaber would steam up, but not short out." This is from the star wars encyclopaedia, wookiepedia. I had just read this 2-3 days ago as ive just started getting back into star wars. I'm sorry for being a dick head and i absolutely love your work.

  • @lambyjr Wookieepedia is fan-made and not an official resource.

  • @DorkmanScott George Lucas is :o and if there is any non-Lucas-Made-Resource for star wars, dont believe it! Only George Lucase can make up stuff in Star Wars... that is true, he did make it. lol your videos P'wn teh P'wnrs

  • @DorkmanScott i don't know, what lambyjr said kinda sounded legit, fake or not

  • @DorkmanScott also in the gendy tartakovsky clone wars show (which is canon) kit fisto fights under the ocean w/his lightsabre.

    def. waterproof.

  • @lambyjr actually, since light sabers dont really exist you can do what you want with your light sabers, there is no one that knows how one would behave.

  • @lambyjr How do we know that the sabers used by Ryan or Dorkman are not modified, such as Kit Fisto's saber, to work when in contact with water? Nowhere in either RVD video does it state exactly what crystals are used, so it is still possible.

  • @cympimpin20 i like this response, and tht is actually true. i neva thought of tht. plus its star wars related, instead of some shit about microwaves.

  • @lambyjr -It's fake, so why would it matter if it did or didn't?

  • "..In rain, a lightsaber would steam up, but not short out.."

-a plasma is measured in Kelvin; meaning it is so hot, any water around it would evaporate before even coming into contact with the saber to short it out - when submerged, water blocks the evaporation, surrounds the saber, & shorts it out because the amount of water overwhelms the plasma. in a puddle or light rain, the water turns to steam & does not short it out because there is not enough to smother the "blade" [plasma circuit].

  • @lambyjr No, it means when a hilt falls into the water. Not just the blade making contact with it. cf. a lighter, when the lighter falls into water, it shorts out, when the flame gets into contact with water though, it does not.

  • @lambyjr How do you know? you got a light saber in your room?

  • @lambyjr when they were IN water.... as in submerged in it... the HILT would need to be flooded not the blade

  • @lambyjr Ultra-late response, but here goes anyway. Yes, most lightsabers (with exceptions like Kit Fisto's) would short out in water--provided that there was SIGNIFICANT amount of water and the lightsaber was IMMERSED in it. Much like most of our very own gadgets (ie smartphones, etc,) lightsabers can take a bit of water, but not get soaked. Notice that they just "steam up" in the rain. Well, even a bit of rain is far more water exposure than a puddle. There you have it.

  • @DorkmanScott good man

  • @lambyjr probably if they were completely submerged in water. i think dragging the tip through a puddle would do exactly what they did in the video, spark because of the ground, but steam because of the water

  • @lambyjr Start thinking about real science, lightsaber is suppose to be made of light right? Light doesn't short out from water.

  • @lambyjr Reaaally doesnt.

  • @lambyjr

    That's stupid.

  • @lambyjr clone wars kit fisto uses his saber underwater

  • check out this video made with Motion ------> youtube.com/watch?v=oSs4m54RyKA

  • Ryan or Dorkman please answer this question. Did you do your lightsabers like Chroma Key? You know the lightsaber is following your stick? or you did after-shot edition (frame by frame) please write it to me it's very important for me

  • @PawelStory The only way to do it properly and look impressive is the time consuming frame by frame work called rotoscoping. You have to tell the effects program where the sabers are each frame then you can add glow.

  • @Finchspielberg Thank you. I have got Sony Vegas Pro 9 and i think this program is not bad.

  • @PawelStory A good cheap special effects program which works well with rotoscoping and other techniques is FXHome's Effectslab Pro. This is way cheaper than a program like Adobe AfterEffects. There are always alternatives.

  • of i had my birthday and god told me i had one wish to wish... i would wish there were real lightsabers. of course, this is not my real wish

  • So much detail.

  • Special effects like these aren't easy to create, are they?

  • you need to try and see if gorge lucas. will let you make another star wars trillogy .. but do it based on the knights of the old republic... show mr lucas you're stuff.. you beat any movie stuff by far.. my props to you dorkman... makes me wanna make my own movie.. but I know it wont be as good as your's

  • what i would like to know is... how did you make the sabers glow???

  • dang guys! that's some good stuff. i got a question though... can those force effect light sabers withstand a beating during duels?

  • @jgto17 At £100+ for each lightsaber, I wouldn't risk it :)

  • THIS WAS THE BEST EFFECT EVER!!

got me thinking how to do this effect until i was this video! :D

  • am I rude if I ask what programs you are using for making lightsaber effects and rip off arm effects?

  • Brilliant

  • Damn, you guys belong in Hollywood! Great job!

  • thats cool i would have never thought to do that GOOD JOB

  • This is awsome!

You should deffinately attempt a Dragonball style fight, since it's coming out April 8th and a lot of people are going to be talking about it (and how bad it will be, including the SFX). You should definately show them up. =)

  • awesome job guys! 5/5

  • WOAH IS THAT CORY

  • we need more of these videos instead of those other fan movies i dont mean to like say that they suck and all but compared to this they suck

  • what program did u use?

  • I think that program wich they use is Adofe After Effects

  • Adobe After Effects CS4, Photoshop and another program but mostly After Effects

  • yah shooting near water when using special affects is problematic

  • Bravo!

  • Holy Moly, guys, this is great stuff.

If it isn't too much trouble, I'd like you guys to take a look at some of my stuff.

I've seen a lot of videos showing off special effects talent, but none as good as this.

This is actual good compositing magic.

Take a look at my Efilms Showreel 2008 and let me know what you think.

    Thanks, guys.

  • i dont care if its fake i strill want a light saber a REAL one

  • ninguém presta atenção nessas coisas...

    rsrsrsrsr

  • Have you ever seen JIVAGO? It's a crazy guy I think on a homemade MOVIE! XD it's so funny!

  • If George Lucas makes Star Wars Episodes 7, 8, and 9, you guys need to be the new stunt coordinators and swordmasters instead of Nick Gillard!

  • yo man I wish you guys were my teachers, ever consider teaching? I'll be your first student!!!!!!!!! This is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • i could do with learning a few things from these guys too xD wen im older i want a career in after effects

  • not to mention swordplay (or lightsaberplay in this case) choreography.. love it!

  • I think that some one(george lucas) should come find you guys in the case he ever makes another movie.

    =]]]]

    5/5, again.

    =D

  • Very Nice!

  • have a question about how you achieved the effect of retracting the lightsaber. How can you achieve the turning off of the saber? Would it just be a shot of the hilt without the blade? How would you create the blade receding?

  • please say alsow where can you get normal swords (drokman's for excample) they should be enought for fighting^^ could you answer please at my profil?

  • were did yu get that pro lightsaber? and how much was it? great movie commentary btw

  • r u guys like in a movie or somthing

  • where do you get the prop lightsabers?

  • question.....are you guys in film school or is this all done from your spare time and slowly learning?

  • You guys are unbelieveable. This is the most realistic saber duel i've ever seen. You guys have broken into more reality that an actual Star Wars movie. I'm not even kidding in the least.

  • Anyway it will be a while before a greater lightsaber duel comes out! But I definitely want to try it out even if I may fail. XD
