This was a very funny cartoon moment for me, I did notice something though with this version, this was done by Nickelodeon, its not an error its probably censored for some lame reason I forgot why.
The word "Schnitzelbank" is the Name of a tool used for Barrel making.
"Schnitzel" in this way got nothing to do with the meet. t`s a word for "carve" wich in german also was used like the word "slice". In Switzerland it`s the "bänkelsong" a kind of singed Limmerick. You explaine a situation by using as less rhyming word as possible and make a joke about. Leter in History it also goes to south german where it was called "Schnitzelbank". (PS: I`m swiss)
@Pferdesuppe: I know of it from a friend that lives in Ansbach and was born in München, so if you don't agree wit my calling it a "traditional German song", it surely can be classified as a "traditional BAVARIAN song"...
He told me it is mainly used at weddings, and from what other posters tell, it is also quite popular in Switzerland.
Growing up in G and never heard of a "Schnitzelbank". Maybe a bavarian tradition.
I wonder why the Americans always think of Bavarians when they hear the word "German". Its like Germans would always think of Texans when they hear the word "US-citizen". Only wonder why ^^
in this context, 'schnitzelbank' is a kid's song, meant to teach young kids german. this is done the same way, same cadence , tempo, etc. the guy's name is Schnitzelpusskrankengescheitmeyer which *really* doesn't translate....if you break it into Schnitzel puss kranken gescheit meyer, you can tell it's actual german, but they're just random words, far as i can tell there isn't any real meaning to it, thoug i could be wrong.
The song refers to many objects to help people learn more of the language. The song is extremely easy to learn, and you can actually learn many terms from it.
Reg dich doch nicht so auf, als ob die Animaniacs die USA nicht ebenfalls auf die Schippe nhemen würden. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass irgendeiner, der sich dieses Video anschaut, denkt, dass Deutsche durch die Gegend tanzen und über Schnitzelbänke philosophieren.
Durch deinen Kommentar verbesserst du das Bild von Deutschland übrigens nicht gerade.
wow, having surched around on youtube, I realizes the Schnitzelbank IS a tradidional German song (or it would appear so), which makes this OH-SO-MUCH-MORE-HILLARIOUS. I just want to roll over and die from laughter.
Not really uncanny when it's the same routine. The Schnitzelbank song has been around for a couple hundred years or so. Thus the same "Ist das nicht..." / "Ja das ist..." routine can be heard in quite a few places that make reference to the song. It was like a spinning song, only for carving, sung or chanted while one would work at a Schnitzelbank (a special bench & apparatus used by woodworkers in the days before the Industrial Revolution).
Actually, you are right . Schnitzelbank is a real traditional German drinking song, and that line in "Der Fuehrer's Face" was a direct reference to it. The Animaniacs version does a great job as a parody, since it uses the melody and formula (ist das nicht.../ja, das ist...) of the real song, while letting the Warners run completely ape with it.
@toyotanessa As I replied to Pferdesuppe, that is simply because it is originally from Bavaria and can also be encountered in northern Switzerland. Since the Holywood stereotype of the German people is a mix between Bavarian and Prussian traditions, it is understandable the Animaniacs would use this particular song to make fun of the cliché.
Same goes for Lederhosen. I bet nobody wears them where you're from, am I right?
OMG!XD~ I didn't know that anybody could actually have SUCH A STRONG GERMAN ACCENT!XD Brr~, that's really scary. X.x" And Schnitzelbank= Schnitzelbench? Where's the context? xD
As "schnitzel" means "carve", the context is clear. Schnitzelbanks were used by woodworkers for hundreds of years, falling into disuse in the late 19th century. The Schnitzelbank recitation was used throughout Europe -- not just in Germany, but when modern tools made the Schnitzelbank obsolete, the only people who really kept the recitation alive were German Americans, for whatever reason. This isn't the first cartoon with it, though -- The King & Odie did a Schnitzelbank bit in the early 1960s.

Translation of the Wikipedia article excerpt pasted before: A "Schnitzelbank" is a combination of short verses that are often performed rhythmically or with a tune and is meant to delight listeners with humorous depictions of current or common human behavior.
By the way, "Schnitzel" means "cutlet," not "sausage" (Würstchen).
Ein Schnitzelbank ist eine Zusammenstellung kurzer Verse, die meist rhythmisch oder gesanglich vorgetragen werden und die Zuhörer mit der humorvollen Schilderung aktueller oder allgemein menschlicher Vorkommnisse erheitern sollen.
Well, it's from the german wikipedia. Maybe i'll translate into english.
Shred bank is a compilation of short verses, which are usually spoken rhythmically or gesanglich and which listeners with the humorous description more up-to-date or generally human occurrences to be supposed.

Hi. You misunderstood the name. It's Otto von Shnitzelfuss-Franken-geshejt-Meier. The name is just a pun on strange long German words.
The meaning is kinda: Otto of Shnitzel (kinda specially prepared steak) foot, Franken (as Frankenstein) geshejt (means clever) Meier.
